I'd like to give you the good news about the new Tablet App for Mac, a free, open-source app that gets older Wacom tablets working again on Apple Silicon Macs.
The problem this app solves
Wacom's last driver for the Wacom Intuos4 tablets (version 6.3.41, from 2020) only supports macOS 11 Big Sur and earlier. Plenty of artists and designers still have these tablets, and the hardware works perfectly well, but on a modern Mac the Wacom driver no longer runs.
The new Tablet App for Mac takes over where the old Wacom driver left off. It's laid out like the original Wacom interface and settings, so there's nothing new to learn:
- Pen pressure with a Soft to Firm tip feel, side buttons, eraser and tilt
- ExpressKeys and the Touch Ring
- Screen mapping
- Different settings for each app and pen
- A Scribble canvas to test pressure
- Lives in the top Mac menu bar and, if you choose to, can start quietly at login
- Eight GUI languages
It's free and open source (GPL-3.0), with no tracking.
It runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 15 or later. It's been tested with a Wacom Intuos4 on the latest macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate, and we welcome reports from owners of other models.
What's next
We improve the app on a daily basis. Users can choose between the current stable version and the BETA, and even downgrade to an earlier version right inside the app.
