Version 1.0.0, released 2026-08-25
The following guidelines are in place to ensure that r/iPod and r/iPodClassic remain a safe and fair place for discussing iPods and iPod modding, as well as to protect sellers and buyers. These rules will come into effect on the 25th August 2026 and apply to all posts made on or after that date.
1. Separation of Business and Moderation
For the sake of fairness and neutrality, moderators of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic may not operate their own for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services. Conversely, users who own or are employed by for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services are not eligible to apply to be a moderator of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic.
2. Advertising
Advertisement posts for the sales of goods or services are not permitted on r/iPod or r/iPodClassic, this applies to both businesses as well as private sales. We want these places to be about discussing owning, using, or modding iPods however this is not free real estate to advertise your store. If you wish to advertise on Reddit in general, you must enrol through Reddit's advertiser program. Please note this is not the same as post boosting, if you sign up for paid post boosting this does not make you eligible to ignore this rule even if the post is tagged as a "Brand Affiliate". Reddit ads are not the same as Reddit posts.
Posts by sellers advertising their goods or services will be deleted, and repeat offences will result in a ban. Using alt accounts to recommend your store while acting as a third party is also prohibited and will result in post deletion and a ban.
There are other subreddits that permit the advertising of device sales, such as:
3. iPod Vendors List
While advertising posts are not permitted, our community features a pinned FAQ with a list of verified vendors. Reputable sellers may apply to be added to this list. In order to be eligible, your store must have a valid warranty and returns policy, as well as contact details for customer support. To apply, please send a modmail.
4. Product Reviews
Product review posts are permitted, however you are strictly required to disclose whether you purchased the goods or services yourself or if they were provided by the vendor for review purposes. If you are affiliated with the vendor, you are also required to disclose this. Reviews with undisclosed affiliations with vendors will be deleted.
Reviews must be made in good faith and reflect your personal opinions, vendors must not influence the contents of your review. If a review is found to be made in bad faith (either by a vendor influencing the reviewer for a dishonest positive review for them or a negative review of competitors), it will be deleted and repeat offences will result in a ban.
Vendors may not use alt accounts to post reviews of their own stores or of competitors while posing as a third party, anyone found doing so will have their posts removed and may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
Vendors also may not request the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A legitimate review should describe personal experiences of the purchasing process or the goods/services, but cannot contain personal grievances or targeted attacks. Reviews must not contain any AI-generated content. Reviews will only be removed if they contain content that breaks the subreddit rules or false claims, however legitimate negative reviews will remain to help buyers make informed purchasing choices. Vendors who abuse the reporting tool in an attempt to remove legitimate reviews may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
5. Customer Support
r/iPod and r/iPodClassic are discussion forums, we are not direct representatives of vendors and cannot provide customer support. Posts enquiring about specific orders will be locked and we will provide contact details for the relevant vendor. In general, while these posts will be locked they will not be deleted as they may provide useful information about buying experiences from vendors that may help others make informed buying choices. The two exceptions to this are if the posts contain personally identifiable information or if they devolve into unnecessary drama, in which case the post will be deleted.

My partner gave me their old iPod Nano 3 after finding it in storage. 1615 songs on it. The battery is shot, so I'm getting that replaced, but I'm loving it. I had the first Gen shuffle and Touch 3 at one point. Went thrifting to find my childhood iHome and found the same model at my second thrift store stop. Lucky lucky!

After scouring the internet for months and months, always finding listings after they had sold, or sold while I was still planning on buying (did not want to pay obscene reseller prices). I finally found a mint condition, 7th Gen 160gb from my local pawnshop with the original packaging: box, unopened dock converter even the apple pamphlet, device plastic wrapping. The iPod only has smudges and no visible scratching on the mirror finish. The best way is I underpaid for this gem😭

EDIT: you cant swipe by the way, the dots at the bottom are a remnant of fb marketplace!!

I’ve been collecting vintage electronics and cameras lately, and recently picked up this iPod Classic for $42, including shipping.
The cosmetic condition is remarkably good for its age. It still has protective film on it, and it looks like somebody really took care of this thing.
I gave the battery a test, and so far it’s holding a charge surprisingly well.
It’s pretty amazing how well some of these older Apple products have aged. There’s something satisfying about these old iPods compared to today’s disposable electronics.
Curious what everyone thinks. Did I get a decent deal for $42? And how many of you are still using your original iPods regularly?

I have literally wanted this since I was a kid. I have my iPod on a shelf with a little mini hi-fi set up (shared with some books).
This is literally winning at life for me.
My wife thinks it looks cute so that's nice too.
Hello! A smaller RepriseOS update this time, mostly focused on polishing the original iPod experience.
Dark Mode looks much more consistent now, with refreshed artwork, clearer icons, and fixes for lyrics, search, and other text. It also uses much less RAM now that theme artwork loads from disk instead of keeping extra copies in memory.
Since my 0.2.2 post, Play Next / Play Last also works for whole albums and artists. You can choose whether clicker sounds play through the speaker, headphones, both, or neither. There’s also authentication support for DIY iPod accessories.
To update, use RepriseOS Installer.

Neither my 2nd gen Mini nor 7th gen Classic have ever given me issues like this before when I changed batteries/modded them. Even my 7th gen Nano and 4th gen Shuffle work better lmao.
I got it a couple years ago, and it lived in a drawer with a then-new battery in it. *Added: it has an iFlash, 128gb microsd. It only powers on when plugged into FireWire wall brick now. I have both a regular charging cable, and the Foxconn Diagnostic Cable. But now it bootloops between the Critical Battery Low symbol, and then actually boots up, then dies again. I put a brand new battery in, and it wouldn't even charge over FireWire, and just synced USB while slowly losing battery. But when that eventually died, it stopped responding entirely to either USB or FireWire. So I put the old battery back in, and now it's doing the looping again.
Should I leave the thing plugged in for a couple days or something to restart the battery? Or wait until that Sprout board is released so I can just pop it in lmao.

Hi!A question for the experts: how can I identify an original item and determine its value? Thanks.
r/ipod • u/Ok_Middle1463 • 1d ago
I recently picked up an iPod nano 7th gen in perfect condition for 50 bucks. I just spent a day in the weekend to really learn how to put my playlist on here without losing the lossless quality. After some coding and stuff I managed to get everything working and also custom icons. I’m so happy and haven’t put it down yet. Battery seems to be holding up fine too🫶

I have an iPod 4 Photo that I got used on eBay. Last night I opened it up, and changed the battery. It briefly worked, on a low charge. I tried charging it with a new FireWire cable from an outlet. Nothing seems to have happened. I tried charging it by plugging it into my laptop. It gets very warm to the touch, but doesn’t seem to charge.
Could I have done something wrong when changing the battery, or putting it back together? I checked the click wheel connection. And put the wire from the board back in place. It’s getting to the point where I regret spending money on the whole project.

This is my iPod case. It has two separate compartments: the top holds the iPod while the bottom holds my Elecom Bluetooth transmitter and Bluetooth Anker earbuds - all in one convenient place. Got it at the $1.00 store. The zippered fabric pouch is soft, thin, easy to carry, and the divider fabric prevents my iPod from getting scratched.
Note the iPod itself has 1/2 a TB and a modded case.
