Hopefully these photos do talk for themselves.

This is a MacBook Air (not mine) that has seen ‘liquid’ at some time in its life. It’s stone dead.

Is Universal Clipboard this unreliable for everyone?

• Upvotes

I have a MacBook Air (M5, macOS 26) and an iPhone (iOS 27), signed into the same Apple ID, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Handoff all on.

Universal Clipboard only works about half the time for me. Copying on the Mac and pasting on the iPhone usually works, but copying on the iPhone and pasting on the Mac often just silently fails — nothing shows up. Restarting the Mac fixes it for a while, then it breaks again.

Is this just how it is, or is there a fix that actually sticks?

Struggling to decide: keep M4 or M4 Pro

Hello, I'm super new to MacBooks. Been a Windows user my whole life but while researching for a MacBook for a friend I got curious and decided to sell my 2025 Lenovo Yoga 7 Laptop (32GB RAM/1TB SSD) and looked for used MacBook Pros that I could afford from the money I made selling my laptop (1,300$).

This left me with a MacBook Pro M4, 16/512GB with Nanotexture screen for 1.3k in perfect condition which I've been using for 3 days. Randomly looking online I saw an 24GB M4 Pro (also 512GB) model close to me for 1.6k in my area. Texted him I'd pick it up for 1.4k the same day and to my surprise he agreed. This one is in even better condition than the other one, really looks like fresh from the store (no its not stolen or anything, he just seemed like a rich-ish dude who actually wasn't using it and didn't care too much about the money).

Now I have two MacBook Pros with me and I need to sell one. Apparently I could get close to 1.4k for the nanotexture one on refurbed sites while the M4 Pro would even bring 1.7k

I kinda want to fUtUrE pRoOF my setup but I'm not sure if the extra power of the M4 Pro is needed

For context: currently mostly university stuff (Masters), highest workload is when writing scientific papers when I have like 80 browser tabs open, 10 docs in word, 3-5 Excel sheets and 20+ docs in Acobat. Also lots of Canva use and rarely some Instagram reel editing on Capcut but nothing major.

Since most university friends have older MacBook Airs (and apparently the MacBook Neo is also supposed to be great for university) I kinda think that the M4 normal should be enough. Hence I'm really struggling to decide. I really like the Nanotexture screen and would like the profit (keep M4, sell M4 Pro) but I also wanna be sure to have a reliable device for the next 4-6 years.

But since I'm new to MacBooks and the YouTube reviews are kinda ambiguous I'd be super happy for some advice :)

My Productivity with Macs

M1 MBP Laggy??!!!

• Upvotes

So, for some reason, whenever I play Roblox (yes I play it), it starts off just fine and runs at a smooth 60 FPS, after 2-3 minutes of game play, it moves down to 20. Idk why, idk how. There are no background applications running and the M1 isn't thermal throttling, stays around 65-70 degrees celsius. Any reasons as to why and are there fixes? Space Grey M1 MacBook Pro, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Storage.

Why does my MBP M4 14" keep charging to 100%?

Ive set the limit to 80% in the MB setting and the same for AlDente, it still keeps on charging to 100% over night.

When at 100% AlDente keeps on switching between minus and pause.

Any suggestions?

I need a secondary Macbook Air for my classes - What should I buy?

• Upvotes

Basically, I need a Macbook Air for school very soon and I'm not sure what chip to go for. I need the computer for at least 3 years and I've already decided on a 13 inch 16/512 configuration to suit my needs. A lot of it will be web browsing and simple things like that, however I'll also be doing some coding, light video editing, watching lots of videos and maybe a bit of gaming on the side. A good battery is also very important. I was looking at an M2 or M3 Macbook Air but I'll definitely consider some other choices.

The reason I'm not going for a newer laptop is because for all my other things I do at home, I've already got a Macbook Pro M5 24GB/1TB 14 inch which I won't need to upgrade for a long time.

Thank you!

I'm in Australia btw and the difference is a few hundred AUD between the equivalent spec M2 and M3.

Refurbished MacBook for senior citizen

Hi, I’m looking to get a refurbished MacBook for my mom. She currently has a refurbished 2017 MacBook Pro. She uses it for email, zooms with family, internet browsing, photo storage, etc. Her current computer is running loud and hot and she’s ready to replace it. I looked at the Neos but I think at her age, it makes more sense to get something she’s comfortable with. Any recommendations? Should I look at MacBook Airs with min 16 GB Ram? (I meant to check how much ram she has now and how much memory she’s using.) that said, we share 1 TB iCloud storage on a family plan with one other. I haven’t ventured into MacBook territory since 2020 when I bought a refurbished pro for myself (and it’s starting to get cranky too!). Would appreciate any tips, suggestions and specifics. I plan on getting the refurbished item from Apple, but also open to other tried and true spots where I don’t need to have lots of skills exploring a used item on person.

2015 15” Macbook Pro…sell for parts or upgrade and then sell it?

• Upvotes

I have a 2015 15” MBP whose battery went bad, so I removed it before it lit on fire, and just replaced the whole Macbook with a newer one. My daughter's MBP hard drive died, so I took the hard drive from the one with no battery and was able to fix hers. Now I have a Macbook with no hard drive and no battery. Am I better off selling it as is-for parts, or should I replace the battery and hard drive to sell it in working condition?

I should also add that it is the top of the line one that had to be custom ordered to get the specs that it has, so it is a more rare one, but not sure who is still out there buying 2015 Macbooks.

2020 Macbook Air Keeps Dying and Not Turning Back On

• Upvotes

Hey guys, thanks for the help ahead of time. My 2020 Macbook air refuses to turn back on after it dies. I took it to an apple certified repair shop that just plugged it in (I guess?) and didn’t charge me, just gave it back to me alive, working fine. Once it died again, now it won’t turn on. When I picked it up from the shop, they said I probably wasn’t using a charger that had enough voltage to power it back on. I just don’t understand how that makes sense, as i’ve tried so many different chargers, and left it plugged in for hours, even overnight.

Troubleshooting:
-Yes, i’ve tried different chargers. While I don’t have the original charger that came with it, i’ve used an off brand version, a dell laptop charger that should have well enough charging power, and lower voltage chargers.
-When it was alive after the shop, I checked the specs and battery said it was healthy. Didn’t display anything wrong with it.
- The reason I know it’s “dead dead” is because the mousepad does not click. For me, that’s how I know it’s not going to turn back on for me without help.

What should I do? I know this model isn’t the greatest I could’ve chosen but man, it works pretty well WHEN it’s alive?! I’ve used so many chargers. I could take it back to the shop but I fear it will just do the same thing. I don’t understand what the shop did that i’m not. TIA for the help.

MacBook Air M5 midnight blue 24/1TB, ordered

Hello people. I have just ordered my MacBook Air M5. and I’m waiting for it, so excited. Just FYI, I’m coming from MacBook 16 2019 and I have some questions.

First question, how about some light gaming how about League of Legends? Second question, have any of you any experience with the DJing software and more specific tractor control? Also, how do you feel the temperature when you push the device?

Do you have any suggestions or anything to notice coming from Intel MacBook to M5 MacBook?

p.s. please hype me up!

How in the world do you get sidecar to function properly?

• Upvotes

Hello, I've recently got an ipad to carry around and use as a portable monitor for my mac. I even updated my mac from Sequioa to Golden Gate to "somewhat" make the version of Mac and ipadOS similair to each other, but my God. This never works, always get this pop up.

I've tried the following

  1. Signing in and out of Apple account on both devices
  2. Updated mac
  3. Use a cable (can't get it to work wired either)

Real frustrated at this. Any fixes for it?

MacBook M2 fell and minor internal crack in the keypad. What to do, help.

One classmate dropped my Macbook Air M2. The keys are working fine, speakers are working well, display no issues, mouse pad also no visible problem except this crack. While touching the cracked area, I can feel that the crack is internal and not on the surface. What should I do? Will it cause a major issue in the future if I don't show it to the technician?

Should I buy a used M2 MacBook Air (16GB RAM) for $590 or get a new M5 Air?

I'm leaving my current job, and my company has offered to sell me the MacBook Air I've been using. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth buying or whether I should put that money toward a newer MacBook.

Here's my situation:

  • Used M2 MacBook Air: 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD — approximately $590.
  • New M5 MacBook Air: $1,400 starting price for the base 13-inch model where I live
  • My current personal laptop: M1 MacBook Air, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. I was thinking of giving this to my sibling for their school
  • My new work laptop: MacBook Pro with an M5 chip, which I'll use for my job.

I'm a software engineer, and I want my personal laptop for side projects, software development, experimenting with AI tools, researching business ideas, and potentially building some small products of my own.

Since I'll already have a powerful work laptop, I don't necessarily want to spend a lot on a personal machine that I won't use for my day job. However, I also want something that will last for a few years.

The main thing I'm unsure about is whether the M2 Air with 16GB RAM is still a sensible purchase in 2026.

What happened to Apple saying they will not merge the MacBook and iPad?

Post image
217 Upvotes

Rumors say they are releasing a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, but isn’t that just a more powerful iPad?

I also don’t understand who the audience is because if you want a touchscreen MacBook, just get an iPad, and if you want it to have the compatibility of a laptop, just get a cheaper windows laptop that has a touchscreen and it will have more compatibility than a normal MacBook. While I understand there is an audience it seems very small especially at the price of a MacBook Pro.

Anyone else getting random screen dents on their MacBook Pro M4 Pro?

Thumbnail

Has anyone else experienced dents or marks appearing on their MacBook screen out of nowhere? I have a MacBook Pro M4 Pro, and this has happened to me twice now.

The first time was earlier this year, when my MacBook was only two months old. Thankfully, the insurance I bought with it covered the screen replacement.

I initially thought closing the lid might have caused it, so after getting my MacBook back, I became extra careful and barely even closed it anymore.
But today, I noticed another dent on the screen. I’m honestly so confused because I’ve been much more careful with it since the replacement, and I have no idea how this keeps happening.

I mainly use my MacBook for photo editing, so having marks on the screen can be pretty bothersome.

Now I’m not sure if I should get the screen replaced again. My insurance only covers two claims, and it’s valid until December 2027. Part of me wants to have it replaced while I can, but I’m also thinking of just living with the dent and saving my remaining claim in case something worse happens later.

MacBook draining battery whilst sleeping in clamshell mode.

Hi, I have a MacBook Air m5, connected to a usb hub which connects it to an external monitor, keyboard (mechanical with rgb lights) and mouse in clamshell mode.

After I'm done with my day, I press ctrl + cmd + Q and turn off the power supply. The next day, I wake up and notice 5-7% decrease in my battery. (The battery stays on 80% limit and is mostly plugged in while in use).

Is the 5-7% drop normal?

I'm worried if the usb hub might be drawing power throughout the night. The keyboard lights do not stay on throughout the night.

I don't want the hassle of unplugging and plugging in the usb hub everyday.
I don't want the MacBook to stay plugged in 24/7 either.

Apple sent me 2 MacBooks

EDIT: Since all of you think I'm either a bot or trying to be Jesus or something by returning a free laptop, spoiler alert: I don't care if Apple gets it back! The billionaires are FINE without it, I'm sure Apple wouldn't notice if they gave out 1000 free laptops. The only reason I'm asking this is because I was considering selling it after I had forgotten about it for several months. I didn't want to sell a laptop that could potentially be locked or unusable. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me, so I know NOTHING about the legal or technological processes when it comes to an expensive item being accidentally free. Also, like other people have mentioned in their comments, some companies and sellers do end up pushing for "theft" or for their items to be returned if something like this happens. Yes, I had my question answered at the store. But would I really trust the one sentence answer from an employee who looked like she would blow me up if I kept bothering her? She herself told me she wasn't sure. I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience, but I can tell some of you are reallllll salty that this didn't happen to you. Not everyone knows as much as you, so if your superior knowledge ends up bothering you this badly I'd advise you to touch grass

In January of 2025, I ordered a MacBook. About a week after it shipped, UPS marked the package as lost, so I had to contact Apple. After some "investigating", they determined that the package was indeed lost and sent me a replacement laptop. The replacement came the first week of Feb, no issues. Fast forward to June 2025. The original MacBook, the one that had been lost, randomly shows up on my doorstep. When I went to the tracking, it looked like it had taken a tour around NYC before Amazon picked it up and delivered it. So now I have 2 MacBooks...

In October of 2025, I took it to an Apple Store to see what I should do about it (I should've called Apple, I know). They essentially told me they could take it and just throw it away, or I could hold on to it, so I just took it back home with me. It's been a year and to this day, I still don't know if that means I can use it for myself. Apple would've been able to see that it was delivered, and would've asked for it back, right...? I wasn't even expecting to have the original one show up, in perfect condition.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen before and what they've done about it...

13” M4 Air 16/1000 or 14” base M4 Pro MacBook Pro 24/512

Hi there,

As in the title. I own both and I know that Pro is superior in many ways (screen, speakers, RAM, speed) and I’m trying to force myself to use it, but I keep coming back to the Air - it just feels better… I would kill cross the street on red light for an Air with MiniLED screen…

What’s your opinion? Should I just sell the Pro and be done with this dilemma?

Documents have 80gb when I literally deleted all files I don't need even on thrash

Hi, I'm so confused and lost on how I can fix this. the documents in my macbook are eating up my storage except that I deleted almost all of them from my macbook and even on trash. Can anyone tell how to find these documents and how to delete them?

Thank you!

Few years back I got my first macbook. And the way I'm using this machine, despite it having 8gb ram, I don't think I'll be able to switch to windows ever. (I used windows for nearly 15 years before I got this M2)

My next laptop for personal use, wherever I may get it will surely be a mac. I deal with windows on my office computer and the number of times i had to fix issues is uncountable, like audio drivers missing after an update. Sometimes the mic going off. Or even the laptop restarting randomly.

Never faced an issue with mac,and mine has been used really heavily.

Like I frequently get around 16gb of swap usage.

Possible that 2027 touchscreen Macbooks will be tablet convertibles?

I think it's been confirmed that 2027 Macbooks will have OLED touchscreens, so I'm curious if this means they'll have hinges that make them into tablet convertibles.

From what I understand Apple has been slow to move on touchscreen laptops because they say they're not ergonomic and awkward to use. And they won't want to cannibalize sales of their iPads.

But now that the touchscreen MacBook is confirmed... I'm wondering how this will play out.

A touchscreen is awkward to use when there is a hinge that is flexing and wobbling when you press against it. It's much easier to use as a tablet or at the very least when the screen can open 180 degrees to become flush against the table.

Given Apple's focus on ergonomics, would you say there is a pretty decent chance of new Macbooks being 2-in-1 convertibles despite potentially cannibalizing iPad sales?

MacBook Air M1 running slow after the latest update can I undo it?

I recently updated my MacBook Air M1 to the latest OS version, and since then it’s been running noticeably slower. It also takes much longer to restart than before.
Has anyone else experienced this after updating? Is there a safe way to roll back to the previous version, or are there any fixes I should try first?
Thanks!
