MetalHorizon: a free launcher to play your own Xbox copy of Forza Horizon 6 on Apple Silicon Macs (no CrossOver) Completely free A Steam version support could be released soon.
Main Focus: The top priority is fixing the stuttering issue due to DRM.
All you need to do is download the launcher and use your Microsoft account press download then the patch will all load automatically almost download and play.
Other than that, the game runs very smoothly with about 95% of features working as expected.
- If the game crashes, please let me know.
- Feel free to request new features or report bugs, and I'll take care of them!
Feel free to support my work on app notarization and help accelerate development.
EAC is not bypassed: Helldivers2 Easy Anti-Cheat for Linux (the Steam Deck / Proton support), and Obelisk runs the game through a small Linux layer for macOS that I also made: https://github.com/Zagrios/voile-lkd
Ranked Rocket League, Dead by Daylight and many other games work too, and I'm now working on The Finals.
With my settings I get around 40 to 60 FPS using D3DMetal, and I'm working on getting better performance (Using DirectX 11 with DXMT already gives me much better performance, but there are still some rendering bugs, so I'm still working on it)
BOTW- Locked 30fps at 2k
Markio kart 8- locked 60fps at 2k
base m1 macbook air, 8gb ram.
How and where can I share this without getting sued by nintendo?
I couldn’t help but notice that when you go the Mac Mini page on Apple’s site, there’s a brief animation that plays, and the last i in mini briefly becomes a pirate flag, which I thought was amusing considering all of the recompiling going on right now :)
In August I posted mtld3d here, a Direct3D 9 implementation on Metal for Wine.
D3D9 on Metal was the gap I wanted to fill. It turned out a D3D9 driver alone does not get games running: they also needed changes in Wine itself, in FEX (the x86 emulator used here instead of Rosetta), and in other parts of the graphics stack. Mach9 is the result: a Wine build for Apple Silicon with all of those changes, made to be embedded in launchers.
Not another launcher
The plan is for existing launchers to ship this engine, not to compete with them. A launcher copies the wine/ folder into its app and passes per-game settings in one environment variable. The rules are written with a small Rust crate, documented at https://docs.mach9.app. If you maintain a launcher and want to try it, open an issue and I will help.
Until that happens, the engine on its own is hard to try. So there is a small app, Mach9.app, to get more people testing. It starts any Windows .exe you point it at: a game, an installer, or a store client such as the Windows version of Steam if you install one. It is free and notarized (no Gatekeeper workaround), and it never asks for any account; logins happen in the store clients themselves.
AI use
A large part of the code was written with AI coding tools. I decide the design, review the changes and test the games. All of it is public, including every patch to Wine and FEX as plain commits in the forks, so you can check what was changed and why. If that is a dealbreaker for you, that is fair.
What is in it
Wine for arm64, no Rosetta. FEX runs the games' x86 code.
D3D9 on mtld3d. D3D10/11 on DXMT, D3D12 on vkd3d-proton, OpenGL on Mesa. Newer games run too, but they already run well under CrossOver, so the focus is older games.
Open it from Applications. macOS shows "Background Items Added": that is the Dock menu being set up.
Right-click the Dock icon, Options, Keep in Dock.
Right-click the Dock icon, New Executable…, pick a game's .exe, Run.
Installers work the same way: run the installer .exe with "Save as new game" off, install into a normal Mac folder such as ~/Games (Z:\Users\<you>\Games\... in the installer), then add the installed game's .exe. Steam is optional; if you want it, install the Windows Steam client this way and add steam.exe.
Open an issue at https://github.com/athei/mach9/issues with gamelauncher.log attached (Dock menu, Open Config Folder). Reports about games that do not run are the most useful thing right now.
I was able to run GTA 5 natively at max settings 1440p resolution on my M1 MacBook Pro and the experience is smooth crazy how recomps come so far I hope rdr2 gets the same treatment.
The 3.x port was my first try. It worked, but it grew into something I couldn’t keep straight, and you felt it: long Setup runs, build failures on some Macs, and bugs that took several releases to chase down. So I went back and rebuilt it from the ground up. 4.0 has a new recompiler and a new runtime, and it’s built so I can keep improving it.
A much faster, simpler Setup. Building the game takes about a minute and a half, not hours. With your Xbox 360 copy added, the whole Setup takes about four and a half minutes. There’s no decompiler, no Java and no shader preparation, and you only need Apple’s free Command Line Tools. Setup brings its own Python, so Homebrew and network hiccups can’t break it.
Built straight from your own game. Choose your PC v1.3 game folder, or the Black Edition .zip you downloaded, and click Build. As before, no game files are shipped.
Xbox 360 extras, from your own Xbox 360 copy. Point Setup at your folder or .iso, and it adds the Xbox 360 world, audio, music, cutscenes, textures and more. Without it, you get the PC game.
A new F10 settings menu over the game (touchpad click on a DualSense or DualShock 4).
Controllers: DualSense and DualShock 4 detected automatically, PlayStation or Xbox layouts, button prompts that match your controller, and rumble.
Sound: the game’s full 5.1 mix, with optional Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and TrueHD output.
Still here: Discord status (off by default) and Check for updates.
What to expect
4.0 isn’t an update of 3.x: download the 4.0 Setup and build once. Your 3.x app can stay until you’re happy.
When Setup finds a 3.x career, it copies it into 4.0 and leaves the 3.x copy untouched.
The game uses your Mac’s language when your game files include it (or pick one in F10 > Gameplay > Language).
Setup takes your installed game folder or the community Black Edition .zip. Other PC disc images aren’t supported yet.
Thank you. To everyone who reported issues, sent pull requests, tested builds and waited while I worked out this new direction: thank you for your patience. Your reports shaped 4.0. The crash, build and controller problems you found are now checks the new version has to pass. Special thanks to prex-xo, Simonxdd and DarthMDev, and to everyone on the Discord.
Coming next (in development, no dates)
Online and LAN races. Most Wanted’s own multiplayer code is still inside the game, and I’m working on bringing it back natively on the Mac so you can race friends with your own cars. It’s early: I’ll share it when it works.
Couch split-screen (planned). Two players, two controllers, one Mac.
More from the DualSense (planned). Adaptive triggers and better haptics.

has anyone tried to run the Infamous Second Son pc port on a Mac through CrossOver or anything like that? or try porting to mac.... by themselves ??? I know that's a tall order to ask, though 😂
Hey, does anyone have any any ideas on how to play modern arcade games on a Mac? I tried both Teknoparrot and Ultra Loader in crossover and both don't work (the windows versions at least), does anyone have any ideas or recommendations to get these types of games working on Mac?
Hey there 👋🏽 as the title says, I’m planning on switching to the new m6 iMac. I’m not getting it specifically for gaming and I’m not sure how to spec it out. I don’t really want to waste money maxing it out if I don’t need to and don’t want to go barebones either. Also, I’m not sure what to expect realistically gaming?
Games I usually play and are interested in are: dragons dogma 1/2 (modded)
Skyrim (wabbajack mods), baldurs gate 3 (modded) pillars of eternity, osrs, digimon time stranger, fire emblem, maybe some emulation and things that may be considered niche. Not particularly interested in trying to play gta vi, but would consider tes6 🤷🏽
I'm a solo indie dev working on Zap Colony, a minimalist strategy/defense game where you build a network of power stations, cables, and turrets to protect a growing colony from colored aliens. The twist is each turret needs power matching the color of its targets. So the game has a strong evolving puzzle component for fans of optimizing layouts and resources.
I've just released a native Apple Silicon demo on Steam, and I could really use some help testing it on different Macs!
I'd love to hear how it runs on your hardware, whether you encounter any bugs or performance issues, and, of course, what you think of the gameplay itself. Any feedback will be incredibly helpful!
I’m the developer of Ballot or Barracks, a single-player, offline political strategy game in Early Access. The v0.62.0 macOS ZIP is now available on itch.io.
The modern scenario offers 251 playable countries and territories, and the 1980 Cold War scenario offers 253 starts. You can lead a party through elections, run parliament and the economy, manage diplomacy, and deal with crises and coups.
For Mac players: download the macOS ZIP from the official game page, extract it, and open the included app. The page includes first-launch instructions if macOS blocks it. The game is currently 100% off and free to claim.
Hi everyone. I so desperately want to play a game like leaf it alone or the arcane library game but nothing is available on Mac! Does anyone have any recommendations for me? I have M2 Pro.
All the benchmarks I’ve found use different translation layers and are years apart, so what’s currently the best setup, and what kind of performance can I expect? I have an unbinned M5 Max Studio on the way, and this is one of the few games I’m interested in.
I'm not the biggest gamer, but I'm thinking of upgrading my 2015 Intel Macbook so I can play more of my steam library when I'm about because my 11 year old mac is weak as shit.
I've also heard something about Rosetta happening in macos 28, could someone also please explain that?
My current Mac is a 2015 air with an i5 and 8gb of ram, 128 gb storage, it's alright ig.
So I have a situation here, I’ve been seeing a lot of reviews and tests for the Mac minis and they look very compelling, but I already have a legion go and a MacBook Air m2, so I wanted to hear your opinions. Should I sell the Mac and the legion go I have and buy a Mac mini with the money ? Or should I just settle for what I have ? This is concerning gaming of course, like would having the two together be better or would just getting the mini be.
Also would there be a major difference in performance and what not between the Mac mini m6 and the Mac mini m4 ? I know this might sound dumb, cuz I already know there’re major differences yeah, but in my country the difference in price between the two is about 530 USD, so is the difference worth it ?
I want to play BOTW on my macbook air m1 (16gb ram), and I tried playing with CEMU or Atriz and it didn't run that well. I saw these new recomps that are out and I saw two main options, one if the macnative recomp and the other is the nxnative.
For the guys who have tested both, which one is the best for my case? talking about performance, stuttering, etc
I’m looking to buy a controller for my friend so we can play baldur’s gate together. He’s going to use steam remote play to sign into my pc and we’ll play from there.
Does anyone have recs for controllers that work with MacBooks ~25$?
What is the current state of gaming at MacOS? I know about the native ports and crossover, but I see a lot of random things popping up with vibe coded launchers etc. on github.
What are the reliable way if I dont want to pay a premium for crossover‘s lifetime service? (I have an idea with everything happening that it will be obsolete soon)
I normally play games like:
CounterStrike 2
Apex Legends
Forza Horizon 5
MotorTown
PUBG
Diablo 2 Resurrected
Pummel Party
And probably a bunch more.
Is there a service that can do most? Like we see with SteamOS and how they are handling the gaming part in Linux?
I am running the following Macbook Pro 16”:
M1 Max (The large chip with most GPU’s cores)
64 GB of Memory
2 TB SSD
With the shuttering of BioWare I’ve been feeling pretty nostalgic for Dragon Age and wanted to revisit Origins, it’s one of my all time favourite games, and the RPG that got 16yo me into RPGs.
Only issue is I’m away from my home for an extended period and only have my Mac with me. Turns out DA:O isn’t natively on Apple Silicon (makes sense it’s 17yo at this point), and I really didn’t want to have to run it via Windows on a VM.
So, I’ve created a native macOS launcher for it (with a lot of help from Codex). Since it’s actually working I thought I’d share it with you all in case it lets anyone else scratch that nostalgia itch.
The launcher is free, it’s code is open source, and (for anyone that cares) it works by running the windows steam client and the game through Wine (you will need a steam license for DA:O or DA:O Ultimate Edition).
More detail on how to set it up/how it works are also there.
I’ve tested it on my own MacBook (16” M5 Pro), it should work on all Apple Silicon running macOS26/27 (it’s display aware and will adjust the fullscreen resolution to whatever model you’re using). If you encounter any issues let me know… and if anyone wants to test it in more depth that’d be massively appreciated.
If you do try it, I’d love to hear how you find it.
Finally a massive thanks to Aberrant Ink for the artwork, and the people behind Wine, Sikarugir, and DAFix (without them this wouldn’t have been possible).
