Moderator Announcement Apple TV Old Price Megathread

Apple raised the price, and now everyone’s on a treasure hunt. Instead of having a new post every time someone finds an Apple TV at the old price, let’s keep everything in one place.

If you find one, post:
• Store
• Location
• Price
• Online or in-store (include a link if found online)

This will make it much easier for everyone to see where the old pricing still exists.

Walmart stores still selling the 3rd gen Apple TV 4K at the old price ($129 / $149), searchable by ZIP

A few people asked in the comments where Walmart still has the old price, so here is a list of stores that showed $129 for the 64GB or $149 for the 128GB when last checked.

How to use it:

  1. Enter your ZIP. Stores with one in stock come first, nearest first.
  2. Check the price at that store in the Walmart app: open the item, scroll to Pickup nearby, tap Availability nearby, then tap the store. The price switches to $129 or $149 if that store still has it.
  3. Order it for pickup at that store. Curbside works. If it isn't on the shelf, ask at the electronics counter; some stores keep them locked up behind the register.
  4. Delivery only keeps the old price if your address is in that store's delivery area. Farther away, the price usually jumps back to $199 or $249 at checkout.
  5. Prices change fast, and Walmart's site sometimes says pickup is unavailable when the store has units. Look at when each store was last checked, and call before you drive.

27.2 Warning - Player pop up intrusiveness

Just a heads up - with the 27.2 update every time I hit play, or pause, or skip intro on content I’m watching this horrible pop up in the upper right corner of the tv displays what content is playing and takes forever to fade away.

Honestly can’t believe this was left as standard behavior. There’s no way to turn it off other than putting Do Not Disturb on every time you turn the tv on. It’s horrible UI intrusiveness and you may want to hold off on updating if this is going to bother you. (It certainly bothers me).

tvOS 26.6.1 out today!

Those still using Apple TV HD (A1625) and Apple TV 4K 1st-gen (A1842) should update their own devices' OSes to tvOS 26.6.1, which officially came out today! Unlike Apple TV 4K, the Apple TV HD has a USB-C service port.

Well, not much is known yet about tvOS 26.6.1, but please check for latest, up-to-date versions.

$895 for a 4 speaker setup + new ATV

Was uodating the homepod minis i have and OS 27.2 says below..

“The two front speakers must be the same model, and the two rear speakers must be the same model. Original 1st-generation HomePods and original HomePod mini speakers are not compatible.”

So ive got to get at least 2 new minis to do the 4 speaker setup. Got me thinking what the minimum cost would be for newest ATV and 4 minis - $895…

$1295 if you do 2 homepods and 2 minis with the new ATV

Will i still probably do it, yes… but only cause the ease of use and setup.

Did tvOS 27.2 fix the HomeKit doorbell live preview issue with VPNs?

Just noticed something after updating my Apple TV to tvOS 27.2 and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

On tvOS 27.0, whenever I had Proton VPN enabled on my Apple TV, my Aqara doorbell notifications would only show a still image in the little pop-up window instead of the actual live video. If I turned the VPN off, the live feed worked normally.

Now on tvOS 27.2, I’m getting the live video in the pop-up even with Proton VPN connected.

I haven’t seen anything mentioned about this in the release notes, so I’m wondering if Apple quietly fixed something or if it’s just something with my setup.

Anyone else using a VPN on their Apple TV with a HomeKit doorbell notice the same thing?

Is it possibly to remove the software from my Samsung tv so that it only running through my Apple TV?

I have a Samsung Smart tv which I use with my Apple TV. I never ever use anything outside of what is in the Apple TV, but it’s often that Samsung starts acting up, requiring me to find the remote. At the same time they’re spying on my (apple might also be, but I’d like to keep the spying to as few companies as possible).

I’d love to find a way to simply remove more or less everything of Samsungs software, reducing it to a regular monitor.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

AnalogTV for TV 2.0 is out: the biggest update yet to my analogue TV simulator for Apple TV

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

AnalogTV for TV plays your own videos through a simulated analogue TV: the broadcast signal, tape, the receiver and the CRT, all on the Apple TV's GPU. It plays streams and IPTV playlists, Plex, and files from FTP, SFTP and SMB shares, and it has Teletext pages and test cards built in... even some rudimentary games that we created to initially test the app.

2.0 is the biggest release so far by a long way. It has more changes than any version before it, and the picture engine went from generation 8 to generation 38. A lot of it comes from user feedback, on what the app can do, how faithful the picture is, and how easy it is to use.

The video is my own footage from Vienna, Budapest and Sydney, run through the same picture engine. Each shot starts as I filmed it and wipes across to the app's version.

What's new:

- The picture engine was rebuilt against the published broadcast standards. Every standard is sharper, and PAL no longer shows a fine dot pattern.

- Tape behaves like tape. Each format reaches its own resolution, tape colours are now correct, and paused or mistracking tape shows noise from a modelled FM tape channel. That's the bar across the paused shot.

- SECAM was rebuilt to the ITU standard, including the French looks, with full-strength colour and a real receiver's colour filter, so fine detail no longer flickers with false colour.

- Camera tube looks are truer: the trails behind lights come out brighter. The night tram in the video is a vidicon.

- The A/V Sync setting now works on streams too, so you can fine-tune lip sync on anything you watch.

- White is full white again; a new picture tube was being dimmed slightly.

- Fixes: after fast forward or rewind, a file's sound picks up in step with the picture, and after choosing Snow the menu comes back when you press a button on the remote.

Your My Looks from version 1.x keep the picture you made them with.

It's $9.99 on the App Store and needs tvOS 18 or later. All processing is done on-device, no ads, no data collection, no partial functionality. NDI receive is an optional in-app purchase (the only optional feature). There are separate iPhone/iPad and Mac versions too.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/analogtv-for-tv/id6792310052

Happy to answer questions about how any of it works.

Disney+ Balking?

I recently added Disney+. However, after it has been used for a couple days, it slowly loads, or sometimes demands that I check my HDMI connections.

I've since learned to periodically close the Disney+ app, and when that no longer works, to unplug Apple TV for a couple minutes. And then it works for a day or two.

Sigh, this seems to be an issue unique to Disney+ (and, by extension, Hulu), not with Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Paramount, Peacock, etc.

Is anyone else having this issue with Disney/Hulu? Are there better fixes?

I'm running a 3rd generation 4K (2022) Apple TV. Will the 4th generation 4K (2026) Apple TV resolve all issues?

HLG HDR on Apple TV with Infuse?

When I try to watch a HLG HDR file on Infuse, it converts to regular HDR for some reason and the image looks extremely dark, losing all highlights. TV shows regular HDR banner on top right.

But when I put the exact same file on an external HDD and plug it directly to the TV, it plays like it should. TV also shows HLG HDR banner on top right.

Both the Apple TV input and TV's own HDR picture settings are set to Filmmaker Mode with identical settings.

Is there a way to properly watch HLG HDR files on Infuse?

Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen can’t update to OS 27+

I’m on 26.6. I haven’t been able to update to 27 or the newest 27.2. When I try to update to the newest software it will confirm the newest software (so today it asked me to download to 27.2) but after selected update the download bar is instantly filled and says “Downloading: About 2 Minutes Remaining” and will stay there indefinitely. This has been the case since 27 came out, and it happens with both my Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen’s. Any idea on why this would be happening?

Edit: What ended up working for me, albeit annoying, is doing a reset then updating to the latest firmware

Is anyone else having this problem?

My tv app (apple tv 3rd gen) is not updating the content I have watched. I need to manually mark things as watched otherwise it's out of sync with what I have watched in-app.

Anyone else experiencing this?

This started to happen around the time the new apple tv was announced.

Is this another legacy bug integration bug?

New Apple TV user - help with music player?

I'm not an Apple user and am unfamiliar with Apple apps. I am otherwise technically proficient. (Apple fanbois may debate that point. :). )

I just installed an ATV 4K (3rd gen) for use with Channels DVR (the server being installed on my Synology NAS), to replace my TiVo Bolt. In addition, I want the ATV to serve as a music player for my 30 years' worth of CDs stored on the NAS. I want to use it only locally.

Can iTunes serve as a music player for the local source? I don't have a paid subscription for iTunes subscription and don't want one. If it can work that way, how do I connect it to \\NAS\Music as the source?

Apple TV Air?

Given the recent model changes and the wild price increases, it seems like a great time to launch an “Air” version.

At the current price, it’s highly unlikely you’ll find multiple 4th Gens in a single household, which seems counter to Apple’s recent push to gain market share in the home space. Why not launch an “Air” with the microphones, but not all the horsepower? It could offload all of the intensive requests to an Apple TV 4K or HomePod in the home.

Tvos27.2 bug?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I cant seem to get rid of this privacy mic camera alert. Is this a bug? I’ve closed all apps on the apply tv and my iPhone. Also tried restarting through the menu and unplugging/waiting 30sec. When plugged back in it was the first thing that showed on screen again.

Update- ended up being my Sony tv somehow so restarted it and it went away

If you are searching for an old-priced 3rd gen please read this!

I have been searching for a 3rd gen Apple tv since the new one was launched. I have checked dozens of Walmarts and other retailers but didn't have any luck.

Today, I went to a Walmart in a nearby city that had the 64gb version in stock for $199. I refused to pay that amount as I have seen many people in here snagging these boxes for old prices.

Anyway, I was able to find different store that was selling it for $129 on the app. I went up to the electronics department and showed them my phone to price match. The guy was really cool and didn't give me any trouble. I had let him know that I was coming from another city so he was extra understanding.

The point is; if you have a Walmart near you that has the boxes in stock but selling them for the increased prices there is chance that you can get a price match by showing your phone to prove there are stores selling it for a lower price.

However, I still think this will be a hit or miss situation. The employee that helped me was a young guy who was super chill. Therefore, please give the store a call before driving there as there is good chance that they will not consider price matching.

I censored the details in the receipt because I don't want the employee to be exposed. I wouldn't want him to be in trouble whatsoever.

3rd gen Apple TV 4k (HDR 10 plus)

How do I get HDR 10 plus working on my 3rd gen Apple TV 4k for prime video?

I have my Apple TV set to 4k SDR with range and frame rate turned on.

It auto switches to all the other HDR formats except for HDR 10 plus.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
