Discussion sometimes i regret inviting people over even when i enjoy their company

i've noticed that whenever i have someone over, after a couple hours i start wishing they'd leave even if we're having a good time.

had a friend over last weekend, we ordered chinese and watched something on tv. even laughed about an ad i found inside my fortune cookie. it was a nice evening and we had plenty to talk about.

but after a while i just wanted to be alone again. she wasn't doing anything annoying or overstaying her welcome, i was just getting tired of having someone around.

felt pretty bad about it too because i was the one who invited her.

it's frustrating because i do like spending time with people, i just seem to reach my limit way sooner than everyone else.

Question Why is being “quiet” looked at more negatively than people can’t stop rambling?

I don’t consider myself to be that quiet. I’m more of a good listener and conversationalist who is happy to chat with people that don’t completely dominate the conversation, and because of my ADHD, I try to be mindful to avoid cutting people off mid-sentence. I also like to (at least try to) think before I speak in school/work settings because my ADHD brain has put me in a few foot-in-mouth situations.

Growing up, I feel like this led to a lot of extroverted people making fun of me for being quiet, and as a result I forced myself to act more extroverted at work and socially. Now that I’m in my mid 20s, I’ve had more than a few coworkers, bosses, and classmates who ramble incessantly and literally don’t let you get a word in or ask you any questions. Personally, I find it annoying and pretty rude, and it makes me question why society doesn’t see this type of personality just as “bad” as being quiet? It seems like being someone oblivious of how they talk or who talks just to hear the sound of their own voice usually gets much further career wise and socially, even though they’re often not actually contributing that much substance.

How do you communicate with these types of personalities? Most of them I like other than this quirk, or need to figure out how to communicate better with them for work lol, but it usually just makes me shut down a bit and stop trying because it can be exhausting.

*edit: meant to say “people who can’t stop rambling” in title but missed a word!

Question I genuinely hate texting my friend now.

She’s so nice. She hasn’t done anything wrong, but I’m just so fucking burnt out from life that I genuinely get so annoyed when I see that I’ve received a text from her. It’s not just her I’m fed up with, it’s literally everyone I know. I hate being perceived. I hate people expecting me to text them when I barely have the energy to do ANYTHING. I’m in this state of just CONSTANTLY being overstimulated and just completely drained. I already have depression, anxiety, PTSD, and intrusive thoughts- that obviously is a very toxic mix, but I don’t know if they’re playing a role in how I feel or not. Any advice for an overwhelmed and fed up introvert??

Discussion People who talk alot and are not funny are very draining.

People who talk alot and talk about something im not intrested in or are not funny are very draining for me. After they talk for a while i become very drained and answer with only a couple of words. I find this very hypocritical of me because i wouldnt say im the funniest person or the most intresting

Discussion Not Attending Work Events

Long story short. My work has two events throughout the year. One is formal & one is a cookout. I’ve gone to them in the past, even after not wanting to, all because I felt like I had to & didn’t want to get shamed for not going. But after every event, I would get in my car & my husband & I would say to each other that we could’ve done without attending & would’ve rather stayed home.
The cookout came up, I RSVP’d no & was immediately given a crap from the girl that sits with me. She let out a huge sigh like it was such a big deal.
The cookout was this past weekend & I had a coworker come in today & say that I’m unsociable & that I missed a good time.
Has anyone else experienced this? I’m 100% confident in my decision so the comments haven’t bothered me except that I don’t get why others have to make such a big deal of it! Lol

Question As I get older, I like being alone more

I used to feel like I always had to be around people, or I had FOMO. These days I genuinely enjoy a quiet evening by myself. A walk alone, a coffee alone, nobody to talk to and nowhere to be.

It is not that I dislike people. I just like my own company more than I used to. Anyone else find that being on your own gets better with age?

Discussion I love having no one to talk to

I genuinely love having nobody to talk to.

I don't want friends. I don't want to hang out. I don't want group chats, constant messages, or people asking me to go places.

I like being left alone. I can do whatever I want without having to consider anyone else.

People always act like having nobody around must mean you're lonely, but I don't feel lonely. I don't sit there wishing someone would text me or wishing I had people to go out with. I actually like having nobody there.

I see people going out in groups and my brain doesn't go “I want that.” It's just “they're having fun.” Good for them, but I don't want it myself.

I'd rather just do my own thing, eat my food, make my money and be left alone.

Maybe that sounds weird to some people, but that's genuinely how I feel.

Question Introverts in management positions, how are yall doing?

My first post so bear with me. I’ve been in corporate management for about 2 years & I only took the position for financial reasons. Although I had an idea of what I was getting myself into, I was not prepared for how bad this was going to affect my mental health.
I keep trying to convince myself that I’m in a good position, I work from home, have a flexible-ish schedule & have a good relationship with my boss, but im mentally drained/burnt out.
Even though I like the people in my team, they have become very dependent on me to solve all their issues.
It’s exhausting having to start your day everyday by putting out fires at 8am. Call outs, systems not working, readdressing protocols etc.

I’ve learned the hard way that as much as I try to help out I have no control over anything when it comes to changes, but that’s just corporate.
Some people are built for situations like this, but not me. I rather work independently, managing my own tasks & responsibilities instead of juggling 20 problems cause by 10 other people.

So introverts in management how are you doing?
How are you coping?

Question Why is nobody approaching me

For the 6 years of school i remember, ive never been approached by a single person. Like im not a nerd or ugly or whatever but the only interactions ive had with people is the cool kids tryna make fun of me like with everybody else. I genuanly dont understand how i didnt have a single serious conversation with someone the whole time i was in highschool. I never approached anyone myself because i got like anxiety and i am an introvert but i know a lot of introvert people and ive red my fair share of posts on here and nobody is actually alone alone like everyone at least as a couple of friends. Not me. Like what am i doing wrong.

Question Any halloween ideas for hanging out with a kinda-friend?

Thumbnail
• Upvotes

we're both very introverted! and autistic lmao. Theyre more shy, especially given that we've never hung out in the 6 months we've known each other >-<

So, we're both 18 and in a UK town, probably free in the afternoon, maybe evening, and I'm hoping for a Halloween idea to hang out with. Obviously no parties etc

I appreciate any thoughts :)

More like social anxiety than introversion open up with yourself

8 billion people in the world and I don't have a single friend.

I'm a recent completed my graduation. After college ended, everyone moved on and I was left with nobody. Most days I'm just at home, and the loneliness hits hardest at night. I'm not looking for pity. I just want to know if anyone else feels this way, and how you made your first friends as an adult. English is not my first language, so if I make any mistakes, please feel free to correct me.

Question I dont have anyone

Hey guys, I’m about to start this, but I’m feeling really lonely right now.

I’m currently in 12th grade and turning 18 next January. The truth is, I’ve never dated anyone, never been in a texting phase, and never even approached anyone. It feels incredibly isolating because almost everyone around me is either committed or has at least experienced their first love.

It makes me feel like the window for that kind of connection is closing—you know, that passionate, fiery, intense love people experience when they're young. I’ve never gotten to experience that, and no one has ever felt that way about me.

To give you some context, I’ve always been a extreme introvert. It was so bad that my teachers used to complain to my parents that I didn't talk. I barely knew my classmates' names, even if they knew mine.

On top of that, I’ve moved every two years for the last six years. It wasn’t because of my parents' jobs, but because whenever I stayed somewhere long enough to feel unvalued, I just wanted a fresh start.

I also really dislike my birthdays. When I was little, my parents threw parties three years in a row, but I got sick every single time. Eventually, they stopped hosting them. They compensated with lots of gifts, but because I never hosted parties, I was never invited to any. I literally don't even know what it's like to attend a birthday party.

Seeing everyone around me date makes the ache worse. Even when people warn me against relationships, I find myself thinking: even if it’s toxic, even if it brings anxiety, I still want it. I want that intense, high-emotion connection.

For example, I was in a car with a friend recently on our way to a movie. He asked to pause for a bit because his girlfriend was coming over after an argument. She showed up crying and shouting because he had talked to another girl. I just sat in the front seat watching. Five minutes later, they were hugging, and they stayed like that for 10 minutes straight while I sat there in silence. Afterward, my friend just shrugged and said, "She just looks cute when she cries."

Sitting there, all I could think was, I wish someone cared about me like that.

But deep down, I feel like I missed my chance. I’ll never be anyone’s first love now. It feels like after that first raw experience is gone, relationships just become transactional—less about passion, and more like a job interview with a list of filters.

Discussion Do you ever feel like extroverts try to make you feel bad on purpose?

I feel like extroverted people (especially when under the influence) try to make you feel bad about being introverted/shy - like you’re missing out on life and should be more like them. But there’s nothing wrong with being introverted, just like there’s nothing wrong with being extroverted. Idk. I may be projecting because part of me wishes I could be like that… but then they say backhanded things that make me think they are judging me for being introverted… idk lol. Does anyone else know what I mean or have felt this way?

Advice My friend constantly wants to call...

How do I make them stop? I've told my friend multiple times that I hate calling and hanging out (I don't even talk to my own family). I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just not social and I love my alone time. My friend will call me multiple times a day... Every single day. Just don't answer them you might say? I can't! They will spam my phone and go crazy. My friend has very bad mental issues (I do too, so I get it) and gets super upset and concerning when I don't pickup. I also take very long daily naps every single day and my friend knows this. I can get them to stop... Help!

Question How do people have a social life?

I’m 20f. I had a huge friend group up until senior year of high-school. We were so close it felt like family. My parents split so I’d run away to my friends for comfort and connection. I grew apart from them senior year. More like they made a whole ton of new friends and stopped asking to hangout and would cancel on me. I live with my best friend so we see each other often. I have a bf. I have a friend group that gets together once a week. I dread seeing them every week even though I love them and they treat me well. I also never see my other friends outside of that anymore. It’s completely on me becuase I jsut don’t have the energy to hangout with people. I work at 4:30 am most days and so I can’t go out late sadly. I really miss feeling so comforted and close by people but now I just find that I don’t enjoy it? Am I just an introvert?? Idk I feel like I should have more people and be closer with others becuase everyone else is but idk I just can’t? Or I guess I could? Idk

Question The people who criticize you for not leaving your room

i have readed on many internet places, "oh no you will reach 30 yrs old with regret, how could you live your youth like that? without hanging out, leaving home, parties, etc",
Like, being outside the bedroom its not always our choice, sometimes its the friend group, where no ones put a place to go, or sometimes your restrictive parents.
Personally i dont like parties, but i really wanted to be out of the bedroom, like eat pizza for example, but that wasnt my case, i did the best i can to social but i dont know, its not that simple: social -> hang out, if they dont want to hang with you, it wont happen, no matter how social you be, and if the rest of your environment wasnt your type...
Sometimes you just get tired of doing your best, so you accept it and stop trying
like people condemns us because not hanging out, if the actual youth environment is not right, its not right
I mean, i dont want to play the victim, but if every little attempt you make to socialize doesnt work, it just doesnt work, and im not talking about being a disgusting person, it just the social capacity its at the max and is not enough
What else can I do? or did? to had the best youth, i dont like play sports
im 19 male

Discussion I have never dated anyone. 26F

I was born in Korea and have been living in Canada since I was 15. It’s pretty normal for Korean women to have never date in my opinion, and I have seen plenty of people like me. I mean, it’s not common but it’s not weird either. However, I feel like people here would assume there’s something wrong with me if I told them I have never in relationship.
I had been in a few situationships but they never went really anywhere because I can’t stand the way men stare at me. It makes me so unconfortable and I just want to run away.
I used to think it’s just because I’m introverted, but now I’m starting to wonder if there’s actually something wrong with me… aghhh

Question How do you make friends if there is nothing in your town that is enjoyable to do.

Im stuck in this weird place mentally where I think I want friends but the task of finding somewhere to be around others that would actually feel worth it feels so insurmountable and bleak. I live in a small town (closest city is a 2 hour drive) and the only things to do are stuff I hate like going to bars or playing golf, bowling, hiking, volunteering at the humane society and other awful things like that.

There are no art classes or book clubs or any stuff that I might actually tolerate enough to do long term enough to make friends."Just start your own club!" go fuck yourself aint nobody got time for that. Is my mindset wrong? do other introverts tolerate doing stuff they hate to make friends? Am I thinking too black and white? I know most people make friends at work but I only have 1 co-worker and while we get along well I have no desire to be friends with them. Am I cooked?
