Debate/Discussion I'm genuinely proud of Gen Z for figuring out the game

For generations, we've been told to study hard, work harder, obey authority, sacrifice our youth and trust that success will follow

Work yourself into the ground for financial security that never arrives. Stay loyal to employers who consider you disposable. Question any of it and you're labelled lazy or entitled.

But Gen Z is realising that **just because a system demands obedience doesn't mean it deserves it.**

They were told to play by the rules, so they examined the rules, weighed the rewards and asked who the fuck agreed to this deal in the 1st place

Question/Poll Hey ENTPs and anyone who relates

Okay so I know this might sound a little unhinged, but I have kind of an ENTP fixation. It's not really about the label though. I'm drawn to a certain pattern of behavior, and ENTPs just happen to have it, so I end up fixating on them. Is that too weird? šŸ˜ž

I don't even know why, but these are always the people who catch my attention. I'm curious about what goes on inside their heads and what ideas they come up with. They feel different from everyone else, and I want to be close to them and get a peek into their world.

Is my writing getting weird? I swear I'm a normal person and I'm not keeping an ENTP in my basement (we don't even have a basement 🫪)

Anyway, I got curious: what kind of people do ENTPs find interesting? Do you find anyone interesting besides other ENTPs? (ļ¼_ļ¼;)

Advice Infj M x Entp F Frenzy

It's me again, I just wanted some clarity on something.

Just for context this was a couple years ago when I was still in highschool.

Sooo...she was in Grade 9 and I was in Grade 11 she approached me to find out where the extra maths classes were I simply told her that it was downstairs, at that time I didn't think much of her but then after that I started seeing her more and more often and my close homie happened to be acquainted with her so he did me a solid and introduced us and told her that I wanted to be her friend and she agreed, after that we had a couple brief conversations but then I pulled back because I felt I was being pushy and that she wasn't feeling my presence, couple months later my bros convinced me to pursue her again and so I approached once again and she gave me a completely different vibe, like she was really energetic and responsive, and somehow it felt like she she was more invested into knowing who I really am I guess that's how my attraction started to grow, and then again there came a time when she was completely avoiding me and at that time the way she used to do is by speed walking and her face would usually be red while doing that, I had already bought her a book for her birthday which didn't arrive on time so I lost motivation and decided to give it to a mutual friend and he told me that she was so happy that she got the book and she was especially happy whenever she heard it came from me but I had already pulled back, also I feel it's good to mention that my bro pointed out that during a handshake we'd hold hands for a considerable amount of time, and there was a moment after school when I just walked passed her and she ran to me and stole my umbrella and we had our first cxxl conversation she revealed a lot about herself more than before, and when it reached the end of the year while it was exam time she kept coming to me everyday and she was oddly enough she was pretty touchy which was very unusual especially for her and it was around this time when she started following me on Instagram too. She also had this weird thing going on about her wanting me to be her sugar daddy (I'm hoping that was some joke).

We get into the new year when I already confessed my feelings for her and she told me that she already knew and it took me long enough, and that it shouldn't be awkward between us now and so the new school year began we talked sometimes during school but not that much but then when it was exam time she started that thing of hers again where she would come to me and be all touchy and stuff and reach out my theory was because that she usually goes to her dad during school holidays she tries to spend as much time with me as she can, yeah a lot of stuff.

Also during those times it was then when she opened up and told me how she's not ready for a relationship and stuff like that also she told me all about her childhood trauma and where it stems from and according to her she's never told anyone in her family except me happened between us in my senior year from her showing me where she lives(we'd even hangout like the day she invited me to come over the day after my birthday so we'd spend time together), introducing me to her mother formally(her mother really likes me), and she even started wearing my school clothes(which she wouldn't take no for an answer), she was even my valentine. Also worth mentioning is that there were times in the year where I out right asked for what we are actually the first time she was scratching her head and hitting my chest saying she can't answer, she second time she told me that I know the answer to that and that she's not a person worth worrying myself over.

Yeah a lot happened to cover in extensive detail but yeah this girl had me feeling strongly for her, stronger than what I've ever felt for any girl but at the end of the year she posted a picture of her with another guy who was clearly her boyfriend and she never said a word so I cut ties with her

So I just wanted to know if I was delusional for thinking I had a shot, or was it just a case of immaturity on both sides? Looking forward to hearing your response.

Debate/Discussion What rabbit hole are you guys currently stuck in or intrigued by?

I started watching Pantha Rhey on YouTube and somehow ended up balls deep in systems theory, systems philosophy, emergence, information, ancient language, God, the Big Bang and why there is something rather than nothing lol.

The thing I can’t stop thinking about is how much of what we understand comes from creating distinctions between things. Which obviously helps us understand them, but at some point I started wondering what happens when you remove those distinctions again and look at the relationships underneath them.

Like everything seems to exist as separate parts while also only becoming what it is through relationships with other parts. Things move, interact, exchange information, affect each other, form patterns, and then those patterns create entirely new levels of organization.

Then I started wondering if having MORE distinctions today could actually make some ancient ideas harder to understand, because we’re translating them through categories they might not have separated in the first place. Which sent me into God/spirit/creation, then cosmology, and now I’m stuck on why reality has the capacity to DO anything at all. Why movement? Why interaction? Why change? Why is there something rather than nothing?

So that’s going well.

What are you guys currently stuck on? šŸ˜‚

Advice Does an entp like me as a close friend or more?

So I’ve been friends with this entp for a couple years now. We consider each other as best friends. As of late, I’ve started to develop feelings for him and I want to know if they are mutual. He initiates text basically everyday and also initiates calls a few times a month and a couple months ago asked to hang out one on one. This has been going on for about a year now. He used to tell me all about other girls he was talking to and kept me updated constantly. But currently, he is avoiding telling me what is going on with another girl because it is too soon.

Entps, what are signs that you like someone just as a close friend or more?

Question/Poll Choosing the right thing over the thing you love doing

Firstly let me say that there isn't anything that's objectively right.

Now that's out of the way, I tend to choose things that are subjectively viewed as right over things that I actually enjoyed doing.

Examples:

1) Sleeping early instead of going out to eat and drink at night with friends

2) Eating stale ass dorm food over buying out even though I have enough budget and no ideas on using it anywhere

These are some examples, They might not be right, But I keep doing these things instead of actually enjoying myself once a while, I've become too strict with myself.

Does anyone else feel the same? I would love to hear why and how you process like this.

Debate/Discussion Things I've learned (and am still stuck on) building a cognitive functions test

For the past few months I've been working on 16Selves, a free Jungian cognitive functions test. I've posted it here a couple of times before, and a lot of the current version exists because people pushed back on the wording, spotted inconsistencies, or told me their results felt off. So thanks for that. It's given me plenty to rethink.

The thing I've struggled with most is telling someone's natural preferences apart from things they've just learned to do. That's come up in a few different ways, so here's where I've got to.

Preference vs. learned behaviour

If you spend your whole working day organising people, making decisions or managing other people's feelings, you'll probably get good at it. But being good at something because your job demands it doesn't make it your natural way of thinking. It's hard to write questions that pick up the difference.

My attempt at this is adaptive follow-ups. Everyone answers the same 48 statements first, covering all eight functions. The test then picks out your two strongest functions and asks 16 more questions about them and their introverted/extraverted counterparts. These try to find out whether something happens automatically, whether it's been consistent over time, whether it takes conscious effort, or whether it mostly shows up when circumstances require it.

I don't know yet if this actually improves accuracy. I'm also not convinced the line between preference and adaptation is always as clean as we'd like.

Questions that measure the wrong thing

A statement can sound like a perfect example of a function and still not tell you much. Say someone would rather watch a physical activity than join in. That could be about how they process sensory information. Or they might be shy, tired, physically limited, or just not into that particular activity. The same problem crops up with questions about organisation, relationships, decision-making and planning.

I've added optional examples for each statement showing how it might look at work, at home or socially. The idea is to get people thinking across different settings instead of answering based on whatever situation pops into their head first. But examples can backfire too. They might clarify things, or they might nudge people towards a reading I didn't intend. I'd like to hear whether people find them helpful or limiting.

Some statements are just easier to agree with

Each function has six statements. Three are about what you tend to notice, prioritise or respond to, and three are phrased the opposite way. That helps with people's general tendency to agree with things, but only up to a point. If one function's statements sound nicer, more familiar or more socially acceptable than another's, that will still skew the scores.

The test also hasn't been standardised against a reference sample. So there's no real basis yet for saying a high score on one function means the same as a high score on another. That's on my list.

Your top function doesn't automatically decide your type

All eight functions are scored separately. Then the overall pattern is compared against the function stacks for all 16 types. The test doesn't just take your highest function, and it doesn't work out the four letters independently. You get the closest fit within the model.

You can see how the other types compare too. But the percentages show relative fit within the scoring model. They're not the probability that a given type is right.

What to do when the result isn't clear

This is the part I've gone back and forth on most. If two types score almost the same, should the test just pick one? And what if changing a couple of answers flips the result?

Right now it re-scores your answers 200 times, each time randomly moving individual answers by up to one point on the seven-point scale. That shows how often the leading type stays on top. If it keeps changing, or the top two are really close, you get a two-way shortlist instead of a single type. There's also a separate outcome for when several types are basically tied.

A stable result can still be wrong, though. The simulations don't prove accuracy or tell you how likely your type is to be correct. They just show how sensitive the ranking is to small changes in your answers. I'd still rather show that uncertainty than give someone one type without saying how close the alternatives were.

Still plenty to figure out

16Selves hasn't been empirically validated. The adaptive questions, balanced wording, stack comparisons and stability checks are all things I'm trying out, and I don't know yet how much they help. There are still problems with the underlying questions and scoring that I need to look into. That's a big part of why I'm posting.

Two things I'd especially like input on:

- How would you tell someone's natural cognitive preferences apart from behaviours they've picked up through work, upbringing or experience? What would you actually ask?

- How do you write questions about cognitive functions without accidentally measuring unrelated traits or circumstances?

Also, do you find a shortlist of possible types more useful than a single answer, especially when your responses don't clearly separate them?

If you want to try it, just search 16Selves. It's free and you don't need an account. Everything is processed in your browser and your progress is saved on your device. Nothing gets sent unless you choose to submit feedback and results. There's separate cookieless analytics for site usage, but it doesn't collect individual answers or scores.

Whether you tried an earlier version or this is your first time seeing it, I'd love to hear what you think. Specific examples help most: a question that was hard to answer, an example that seemed misleading, or a result that didn't seem to match your answers. Most of the changes so far have come from people taking the time to explain exactly where things went wrong for them.

Typology Help ENTP or INTP? (Or something else??)

Thumbnail

I usually type myself. However, I took a few tests since its weaknesses and strengths would be more known to people.

A bit about myself:

I have A LOT of hobbies and interests. I like reading (Both Non-fiction and fiction. Thriller, mystery, fantasy, classics, etc. Regarding non-fiction, I read a lot about physics, theories, astronomy, and behavioural psychology.), writing (I write fiction books. Currently writing a psychological thriller.), playing logic games (Sodukou, Nonograms, Wordle, and chess.), listening to music (mostly vocaloid and j-pop.), listening and engaging in debates, research (Astronomy, psychology, typology, and anatomy.), drawing (both digitally and physically, mostly characters, singers, objects, sometimes scenes that can convey meaning.)

I should further note that I have AuDHD, which may alter the meaning of results and also resulted in some difficulty to answer many of the questions. However, I tried my best.

I often find that I don't relate with either Fi or Fe, as I feel detached to both. I'm confident that I'm an N type, most likely Ne. When I began looking into MBTI, I thought I was an INTJ. Then, I figured I was an INTP. Before, finally setting at ENTP but I'm not sure any more.

I haven't included that much about myself. So, if you have a question feel free to ask.

Advice Self care as ENTP

Alright this is a little vulnerable but I’ve been really struggling with taking care of myself in basic ways lately. I have a leg injury I have to get surgery for in a few months, went through a breakup, am struggling financially and generally am feeling pretty isolated from everyone in my life. I’m not sure if it’s a chicken or egg situation, but as hard as I try I also can barely take care of my physical health. I barely eat enough, can’t stop smoking cigarettes, and just generally feel like shit all the time. This is especially annoying because I’m usually a pretty health conscious person (I work in the fitness industry).

I get random bursts of inspiration where I’m like ā€œI’m going to fix my whole life right nowā€ and I’ll write some grand scheme to suddenly become my ā€œbest selfā€ again. I follow it for a few days and then just end up falling right back where I started. Generally the advice people give me is to be kind to myself and take it easy but I think that’s a lot easier said than done.

Idk I’m just looking for any advice really. Whether that be explaining this cycle on a cognitive function level or saying what works for you

Debate/Discussion Istj or intj

am trying to determine the personality type of a writer I know a little bit about. He relies heavily in his writing on numerous studies, research papers, and citations, in addition to his YouTube podcast where he always brings along reference papers and research. The core idea of his books is based on dissecting a specific concept, looking back at history to see how it evolved, and examining the impact of history and society on it up to the present day.

On a personality test, he came out as an INTJ, but I think he might be an ISTJ. Is there a way to tell the difference?"

Debate/Discussion ENTPs and femininity: Any other female ENTPs struggle with feeling feminine? Or is it just me? šŸ’€

I’m a female ENTP

ometimes I wonder if being an ENTP has anything to do with why I struggle to connect with traditional femininity.
Listen, I laugh at fart jokes. Shit jokes. Poop jokes. Basically, if it’s inappropriate, disgusting, taboo, or something I’m probably not supposed to be laughing at, there’s a good chance I’m losing my mind over it. šŸ’€šŸ˜
I’m also really into weird shit in general, and sometimes people discover the corners of the internet I frequent and look at me like I’ve just revealed a dark secret. Like, damn, you weren’t supposed to find me over there. 😭
Sometimes I wonder if this is why I get along with certain men so easily. In my experience, some of my male friends have shared my sense of humor or interests, which can make conversation feel effortless. At the same time, I know plenty of men and women who enjoy the same things, so I don’t think gender automatically determines compatibility. I just seem to connect most with people who are comfortable being unconventional.
I’m a woman, and I don’t want to feel like I have to choose between being feminine and being myself. I also don’t think having a crude sense of humor or unusual interests makes anyone less feminine. Still, I sometimes wish it were easier to find women I genuinely click with.
It can be hard to find female friends who share my interests, sense of humor, and willingness to explore the weirdest shit imaginable without judging me. That’s based on my own experiences, not a statement about women as a whole. I’ve met women who are just as weird as I am; I simply haven’t always found them easily. I can be too unconventional for some people, but I’m not exactly a stereotypical bro, either. I’m just… me. šŸ’€
Interestingly, I tend to gravitate toward INTJs and INFPs, but there’s another problem: sometimes the friendship starts feeling less like a friendship and more like they’re waiting for their opportunity to fuck me. LMAO. CAN I JUST HAVE A FRIENDSHIP WITHOUT SEXUAL TENSION FOR FIVE MINUTES? 😭
So, fellow female ENTPs, I have questions:
Do you ever feel disconnected from traditional femininity?
Do you have a sense of humor or interests that don’t fit common expectations of femininity?
Have you sometimes found it easier to befriend men, based on the people you’ve met?
Have you struggled to find female friends who genuinely understand your personality?
And why does it feel like some people can’t be friends with you without eventually wanting something sexual?
I’m curious whether this is an ENTP thing, a personality thing, or just my own experience. I’m not saying women can’t be weird, men are automatically easier to befriend, or that gender determines anyone’s interests. I’m just trying to figure out where my fellow unconventional women are hiding.
Please tell me I’m not the only woman laughing at the most vile shit imaginable while simultaneously wondering where all my female friends are. šŸ’€

Advice ENTP & ENFJ Long Term Love Stories?

My BFF in highschool was an ENFJ (F/F). We had a blast and were VERY close. That said, we grew apart in life due to very different pathways after college (kids vs. no kids was the biggest difference). I felt like there was also this underlying expectation that she really expected to "heal" me. I do have a lot of trauma, and as she stepped into her career in personal coaching, I became a project she couldn't master.

Here's why I'm sharing. I am poly and have fallen hard for an amazing ENFJ man. I feel so many of the same patterns between us, and I just want to understand from lived experience what the real challenges are in a romantic relationship I need to be aware of.

Like, I know to my core HOW MUCH ENFJ REALLY DO CARE for people they love. I'm already benefiting from it. I know this man feels my level of love and commitment to him too, BUT I am afraid of this previous pitfall of him giving and loving so much that I end up letting him down somehow.

I think (90%sure) most of my previous issues with the BFF were immaturity on both sides and me being overwhelmed with her expectations so I just ended up letting her go.

Obviously, I don't want this outcome again.

So, any stories/pointers from other ENTP on the care and feeding of your beloved ENFJ partner?

I plan on cross posting to the ENFJ forum too so that I get input from both sides.

TYIA!
