General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

Discussion Freaky Ventanas

Please tell me WHY it is so hard for people to get a room? There are so many times where I go to the library, gym, or dining hall, the first thing I see is a couple making out right in front of me, tongue and everything. This time it was a little different, yea we're in college, and people like to explore these types of things. However, tell me why, in the back of the freaking dining hall I see this guy getting a full-on lap dance by this girl. They were probably a couple and they looked like first-years too. The girl was taking off her jacket, and she only had a tank top on and you could tell she had nothing under. She was also wearing some short jean shorts. I don't mean to be perveted, but seriously, it's hard not to look when I am just trying to enjoy my breakfast when some couple is getting all touchy in the back.

Discussion Looking for fellow Geometry Dash players at UCSD! (Club maybe?)

Hello! We are reaching out to anyone at UCSD who wants to start their own Geometry Dash club! I think it would be great if we could get more schools involved.

Basically, our group (Geometry Dash at UCI) is trying to start up a project involving several UC, CSU, and other schools called "GD Collegiate California." There are already like 50 members, some from various UC schools. You might be able to meet others from UCSD! And eventually, we want to host statewide tournaments.

You never know how many people share your interests, but it only takes a few people to get together to form a club, which is what happened with us.

Question chances of acceptance?

• Upvotes

hi! so i’ve been trying to gauge my chances of getting into different universities on my list. i’m taking dual enrollment courses (completely on a college campus), and am on track to graduate with my associates degree next semester. i have a 4.6 w gpa, and (3.9 uw), a 30 ACT, and semi-average ECs. i founded a neurodiversity club during junior year, which had an associated mentorship program where members would mentor incoming freshmen from our neighboring middle school. i have a part-time job (10-15 hours a week), 120+ volunteer hours (from a summer camp), and also am a school ambassador. i’ve also been playing piano for 8+ years, of which ive received 15-ish “superior” ranking awards on the state level across that period, and 2 “excellent” ranking awards on the national level.

i’m aiming for a neuroscience/related science degree. i am also applying out of state.

do i have a chance? let me know.

Question Falsely accused of AI

So, the first summer quarter (Summer Quarter 1 2026), I took a class. The grade didn’t come in a week later. Assumed the proff was just taking a while. The assignment was done on my personal Google docs account (didn’t realize lol) and turned in as a pdf to be turned in.

This Quarter (Spring 2026, like two to three months later) I get contacted and told they are accusing me of AI. The evidence was an AI detector that came back with a 40% positive.

My first thought was “oh easy, I can just show my version history and be done with this.”

But then I realized I did it on my personal account. For context I’m a YouTuber, and often store clips on my personal account for easy access. This takes up a lot of storage space. So I often delete things there that I think is no longer needed. The assignment was one of them.

I can show the videos and clips I have. I can explain my answers throughly and why I answered the way I did. But the fact I can’t present a version history seems so suspect that I feel like I’m not going to be taken seriously no matter what.

Kinda panicking. The course is on a subject I’m super well versed on and have been obsessed with since I was a child. I can explain every answer like the back of my hand.

I also have other assignments that have version history and are written in an extremely similar manner.

Does anyone have any advice?

Question When should one drop a course with a W?

For some context, I’m a sophomore considering to apply to both medical and grad schools and I’d really appreciate it if someone could give me an advice on whether I should drop a class with a W not. My current GPA is around 3.5~3.6/4.0 and I am aware that it is not as high as it should be, so I thought overtime, an upward trend in GPA with As would make up for it. However, after the first midterms, my scores for the classes which act as pre-med prerequisites and my major classes are roughly in the B-/B+ range and that is assuming that I will get a full score for midterm 2 and final exams. One of the classes allows us to get a higher midterm score if we do better in that midterm content’s section in the final exam, but the other does not. Therefore, I was considering dropping the one without the grade improvement opportunity but I’m not sure if I should. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, if you know any advising services on campus that could help me out with this, please share them because I don’t know what would be the best action to take.

P.S: I will still be enrolled full-time after dropping one class, so it won’t affect my financial aid.

Rant/Complaint Genuinely fuck HUM

Can't believe you're forced to take 5 courses of this for a letter grade for material that a lot of people do not give a fuck about.

And the fact that so much of the professors makes lecture and discussion mandatory, AND don't record lectures/post notes just to make themselves feel important is bullshit. Apparently they aren't allowed to give out A's for the first essay either.

Rant finished thanks for listening to my TED talk.

News NEW: UC San Diego sent hundreds of dead bodies to the military — Families say they never knew.

https://timesofsandiego.com/education/2026/10/25/uc-san-diego-sent-hundreds-of-dead-bodies-to-the-military-families-say-they-never-knew/

EXCERPT (Click on link to full article):

Over half of all bodies UCSD loaned between April 2024 and December 2025 went to the military, according to records obtained by Times of San Diego. Despite being the Department of Defense’s highest-paid cadaver supplier, the university’s body donation forms do not disclose military use to donors or their families.

Rant/Complaint Triton Flex is full of larpers

Bruh tell me why most of their members dont even look like they lift. Like everyone can tell you guys dont actually care about working out nor put in the effort to do so. Whenever i see them at rimac (especially when they meet up every saturday) they never even exercise, they just pose for pictures and act like theyre working out. They take up all the machines just to fool around and flirt while other people who genuinely want to workout are stuck waiting.

Rant/Complaint Food Allergies at UCSD are a Humiliation Ritual

I developed a severe lactose intolerance when I turned 18 (happy birthday to me...) and I didn't realize how egregiously awful the allergen-free options are at this school.

I have 8ams and the only food available for breakfast is a plain toasted bagel because god forbid they stock the vegan cream cheese--which is disgusting anyways but I digress--and the JWO markets barely have a single ready-made breakfast food that doesn't have cheese/dairy on it in some way.

Also, while I understand that hdh employees are overworked asf, the lack of care about reducing allergen contamination or just straight up making orders wrong is incredibly irritating. I genuinely watched them put whole milk into my coffee despite ordering lactose free because I don't want to throw up in my lecture, and couldn't do anything about it except feed the trashcan my $8 latte.

--> I know they put the wrong kind of milk in because Alta Dena (UCSD's dairy supplier) only sells 1/2 Gallon high-protein lactose-free whole milk, and I watched them use the full size gallon whole milk in my drink.

Not only that, but dining options on the app are frequently wrong about what allergens are included, like ordering a "dairy-free" pasta dish, only for it to have a 1/4lb of parmesan cheese dumped on top when I go to pick it up?? Nobody likes having to order in person, and it's beyond frustrating that we have to do that simply to ensure our food is actually made how it's described online.

I think I'm going to wither away into dust before winter quarter at this point, it's so tiring and embarrassing to constantly deal with this, I can't imagine how people with more serious allergies are functioning.

General UCR to UCSD transfer acceptance 2025

Hi just wanted to share my story about being accepted as a uc to uc transfer. I remember this time two years ago I was looking at reddit threads trying to hear from people who had done this so I thought I would share too!

UCR to UCSD transfer as a second year Psychology BS major

stats/ extracurriculars: (not that crazy)

GPA 3.88- it was a 3.76 when I updated it with my grades after I sent out applications

-taking anywhere from 20-22 units a quarter

- had started as a RA at UCR in the fall of my sophomore year- had only been an RA for a couple months when I sent out my application

(I RECOMMEND GETTING INVOLVED IN RESEARCH ASAP IF YOU WANT TO DO A UC TO UC TRANSFER)

-summer internship at therapy

- have a personal business making over 40 thousand a year

-no clubs or leadership positions which I was worried about but worked out !!

Outcomes:

Accepted: UCSD

Waitlisted: UCI

Rejected: UCLA/ UC Berkley

Feel free to ask any questions!
