General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

Discussion where are all the gays and baddies at

genuine question where the hell are all the gays and baddies at this school.
i refuse to believe we have 40,000 students and somehow the vibe everywhere is just so incredibly bleak.
where are the hot gay people. where are the alt girls. where are the people who look like they have a 37-minute spotify playlist dedicated to a situationship that happened in 2022.
y’all cannot tell me every public space on this campus has to feel this painfully corporate.
I need the secret underground gay society. drop the coordinates.
serious replies only because i'm trying to actually find my crowd this quarter and the search is getting desperate.

News Two UCSD professors to help review OpenAI’s claimed breakthrough in computer science

UCSD Professors Russell Impagliazzo and Ramamohan Paturi will join MIT’s Ryan Williams in leading an independent review of OpenAI’s claimed ETH disproof.

Both UCSD professors helped originate the hypothesis, making their involvement especially interesting.

This is potentially huge news, pending independent assessment!

General Removal of warren art installation

Does anyone else miss the light installation that was at warren or is it just me? I miss seeing the flashing gluttony sign in the fog. Does anyone know why it was taken out?

I just took a year off from school and everyone that I've knew graduated lol
Its not like I don't put myself out there, but I've only been going to those professional orgs that I can't really ask ppl to go out with yet I've been okay with feeling busy and just like locking into studies but as Halloween comes, I'm feeling major fomo and I'm trying to find events that I can go but like it seems like its harder to show up by myself

Just complains :((

General Ex SD Social Club President weird asf

Sd social ex president is weird asf. He's acting like he got kicked out of his club when he was basically verbally abusing and threatening his board members! He also willing stepped down from his position. He's mad weird and just wants peoples money. Now he’s threatening to call the cops on the board members just because he stepped down from the club on his own.

He is also now panicking that people are now finally speaking about his weird behaviors and spamming reporting everyone speaking up.

He also fully pushed a guy against wall and yelled in his face for drinking water at one of his parties!

Question dropping without a W after week 4

I was about to drop a course after a horrendous midterm so I added two one cred seminars on friday of week 4 to maintain standing of 12 creds if i dropped that course. Later i decided not to drop the course but forgot to drop the two one cred seminars. Which resulted in a 2 W’s for courses ive never attended, been to and neither was I added to the canvas.

is there anything I could do to drop these courses without a W, whats the best course of action?

Question Professor Mentorship Advice

Hello!

I am currently a high schooler in San Diego that is doing research for science fair. For my project I need a mentor to help guide me.

I am not at all familiar with the UCSD website and the staff search does not seem very intuitive to me, so receiving some help to contact some professors would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, my project is related to Parkinsons Disease and machine learning (I can't give specific details here).

Question drop with a W or fight for a C?

im really struggling with a class and got a 30% on my first midterm, worth 25% of my grade. i can try really really hard and maybe get a C on my transcript, or just drop and take the W. dropping wont make me have to take an extra quarter or anything, i just dont want to have a W on my transcript.

i bit off way more than i could chew with this class. i spent so many hours studying but i just dont conceptually understand the class, so the studying isn't really helping. i go to office hours every week and study as often as i can. if i drop, i think i'll retake the class next year and prep early. i am 100% certain i will not have another W on my transcript ever. how should i go about this

General Need photos of a display in Geisel Library

Hi there, I'm looking for some high resolution photos that someone might be able to take of the Chameleon jumpsuit that is on display in the Geisel Library. I live in a far distant state and unable to take the trip out there. I at least need front and back and both sides, but if you're able to get any closeups that would be fantastic. I've tried to email the school and they're unable to provide any photos for me. :( Any photos online are quite old and not as detailed as I'd like them to be.

Thank you so much for any help 🙏

General UCSD Grad Back in Denver: Were Any Car Free Trails Near Campus Actually Worth Hiking After Class, and Are They Still Good?

Moved back to Denver after graduating but I still think about the trails we'd drive out to on weekends. I'm wondering if anything closer to campus was actually worth hiking after class without a car. I tried a couple spots near La Jolla that were supposedly decent but they were always packed or too flat. My work schedule here only lets me get out early on weekends, so I need something I can actually do without burning a whole day on driving. Curious what people who stayed local ended up using most often, and if any of those places are still good or if everything decent got developed over. Also wondering if the crowds got worse after all the new housing around campus. Still debating whether to plan another trip down just to get some real elevation again.

General chuds making out seventh floor geisel??

here i am on seventh floor geisel listening to a lecture on a table next to these two ppl (didnt rlly care). then i hear heavy breathing next to me, i dont think much of it because its flu season and they sound congested and overall icky. HOWEVER, it keeps happening and i am one to judge, so I look over and BOOM the couple sitting next to me is full on making out (neck and all)…
idc abt pda but do NOT do it on the seventh floor, find a booth or go to one of the group study pods JUST NOT WHILE IM FAILING DIFFERENTIALS.
oh and they are literally touching each other rn so ig its time to vacate the area.
