Mvolt+ locking up my computer for 90 seconds - 2 min

• Upvotes

Anyone else go through this? When I apply a profile (or when I have it set to load itself up when the computer boots) it just completely freezes for like 90 seconds - 2 minutes, then goes back to fine. Runs/games stable.

Anyone else have this issue?

Help Request - RAM First time RAM OC DDR4 Advice

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I have Corsair vengeance 3200 CL16 2x16gb sticks with Hynix CJR I believe from the sticker

Been following the github guide on ddr4 OC, reached a cap on freq at 4000 and just followed the guide on timings with much trial and error.

Seems to run stable so far after a few OCCT stability tests, going to run a testmem5 overnight. It reachs 53 degrees max when testing not sure if thats a concern.

I couldnt seem to be able to adjust the secondary and tertiary timings much if at all, so I wanted to ask if my timings are fine from the benchmark screenshot, or
would it be better to lower the freq down to around 3800 to be able to adjust secondary timings?

Is lower freq with tighter timings more beneficial to highest freq with my current timings?

Any DDR4 Hynix CJR owners who can share their timings?

Help Request - CPU 14700k undervolt, your thoughts?

Hello everyone! My MB is MSI Z690-A DDR4 with the latest BIOS, cooling Noctua NH D15 with 3 Noctua coolers 140mm and MX-7 thermal paste

**After 100500 different tries, I've come to these settings:**

Intel Default Settings (253W for PL1/PL2)

CPU Lite Load Mode 3

LLC Mode 3

Adaptive offset -1.50

XMP Profile DDR4-4000 by G.SKILL

**14700k is running benchmarks with such results and temps:**

CINEBENCH 2026 (6678 score, max temp 79)

CINEBENCH R23 (35556 score, max temp 89)

In general the CPU is cold enough now, and productivity is more or less the same.

How can I be 1000% confident it's stable and what are your thoughts in general, are these good settings?

OC Report - GPU RX 6600 the performance per watt champion

1075 MV undervolt with a -6% power target and now it's possible to squeeze even more performance out of this card using FSR 4.1 quality (upscales a 720p base image at 1080p). This is the Witcher 3 next gen running at a capped 90 FPS and the card is pulling 93 watts at 71C, unbelievable IMO and these graphics I think you would agree look fantastic for that frame rate/power draw.

stock 5090 vs mVolt+ 5090. pray for my 12VHPWR connector

so i spent the last week tuning instead of actually playing games, as one does.

steel nomad stock: 13,952
steel nomad after mVolt+: 16,969

that’s +21.6% on a card that already costs more than my first car. avg clock went from 2857 to 3030 mhz. my GPU is now basically a space heater with RGB.

the card: gigabyte aorus rtx 5090 xtreme waterforce (360mm aio). i paid extra for the aio so it can run cooler, then immediately used that headroom to make it run hotter

what i’m running:

  • power limit 110% (the connector is fine. the connector is fine. the connector is fine.)
  • memory +3999. not +4000. +4000 crashes instantly like it has a personal problem with that number
  • xbar +450, sys +650 with +50mV. sys actually does something, xbar is mostly vibes
  • custom v/f curve: around +300 where the card actually lives (~1000mV), and the top capped so it stops trying to hit 3200+ and dying in loading screens
  • temps under load: gpu ~65°C, memory ~80°C

things i learned the hard way:

  • the 5090 is always power limited in heavy stuff, so the trick isn’t more voltage, it’s more mhz at the same voltage. stock it sits at 1070mV doing 2930mhz, now ~1020mV doing ~3050
  • every single crash i had was the top of the curve when the game goes from loading screen → full load. witcher 3 crashed so many times it should get a dev credit
  • colder card = more mhz. my fans now sound like a jet taking off but hey, free performance

mVolt+ is honestly ridiculous, per point v/f curve, xbar/sys, voltage demands, stuff afterburner doesn’t even know exists. dev deserves a medal: https://github.com/b00nz/mVolt

credit where it’s due: the crash-hunting method (watch clock + voltage graphs, see at what voltage it died, lower only those points) came from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1xbnhjx/mvolt_guide_the_max_safe_daily_overclocks_for_5090/. go read it, it’s way more useful than my rambling

if my house burns down i’ll post an update. probably.

your card is not my card, don’t copy numbers blindly etc etc

Help Request - GPU Flashing higher power bios on reference 7900XTX

Hi there

I know I am a bit late to the party, but I want to push my reference 7900 XTX a bit more than currently.

It is actually fine tuned at -50mV uv, default max core clock (usually around 3050Mhz) and VRAM is sitting at 2650Mhz being Samsung die, I can push it at 2800Mhz for benchmark, but not stable in memtest_vulkan

This reaches under water about 19100 points in superposition extreme 1080p, which isn't too bad

I was thinking of flashing a slightly higher power VBIOS (Liquid Devil, 339W PPT + 15%) but there is not many reference of this one online, mainly Aqua BIOS at 400W PPT, which might be a bit too much for the 2x8 pins power cable (cablemod 18AVG cable).

I know I would have to hardware flash it and I already have available too for this doing some EEPROM dev on the side, I am just curious of the effect of it on the reference card and if the USB C display port would be kept. (Liquid Devil is 3 DP + HDMI).

Would love to push this puppy up to 389W PPT

Any thoughts ? Thanks !

Help Request - GPU MorePowerTool: Lower power limits work, but higher limits don’t seem to apply — RX 6900 XT

Hi everyone, I need some help with MorePowerTool. Here’s what I’ve done:

Opened MorePowerTool as administrator.

Selected my GPU and loaded the BIOS ROM saved through GPU-Z.

Increased the power limit (W) and current limits (A).

Clicked Write SPPT and restarted my PC.

Ran a benchmark to check the results.

The GPU never reached the new limits, and increasing them didn’t seem to change its behavior. At first, I thought MorePowerTool wasn’t working at all, so I tried setting the power limit below the stock value. That worked—the GPU’s power consumption was limited accordingly. Raising the limits above stock, however, doesn’t seem to have any effect.

HWiNFO shows the new, higher limits, but the GPU never reaches them. I understand that raising a limit doesn’t automatically make the GPU draw more power, but I’m trying to figure out what’s holding it back.

I’ve also tried the following:

Checked the GPU’s power connectors and cables.

Uninstalled potential conflicting software, including Sapphire TriXX and Razer software.

Used a cleanup utility and reinstalled the graphics drivers.

Disabled Fast Boot.

I’m running out of ideas. Has anyone experienced this, where lower SPPT limits work and higher limits show up in HWiNFO, but don’t seem to affect the GPU? Is there another setting or limit I should check?

MSI Afterburner doesn't start with the right profile

I wouldn't post here but sadly I am at really the last resort and I see that sometimes this topic was in this sub. I tried everything, yet MSI AFterburner chooses the wrong profile (actually no profile, probably) to start.

Situation: undervolted 5090. I checked everything from unlocking to choosing profile, applying, using the "windows start icon" etc. after reboot, I don't think any profile is chosen, even though MSI shows some different sliders in the GUI (for instance the 95% power limit).

In the screenshot the profile is correctly applied, but it can look exactly the same at reboot, though it's not the right profile. I notice right away because the voltage is not supposed to go higher than 950mV but in fact after reboot it does, until I apply the profile manually again.

I even set in the settings a profile for 2D and 3D (the same profile) which is the undervolted one.

Looking for Guide Question about the longevity of the 5700X

Hi guys! I just recently bought a tray 5700x, and i just finished setting up PBO and curve optimizer.
My current settings are:
PPT: 120
TDC: 85
EDC: 130
Curve: all core
Magnitude: 25
CPU boost overdrive: 200

After setting those up, my max temp under heavy load (using CinebenchR23) was only up to 75 degrees Celsius.

(Single-core score: 1579 pts; Multi-core score: 15419 pts)

I’m using the Jonsbo TH-240 as the CPU cooler I’m worried that i’m doing something wrong and that it might shortens the lifespan of my CPU and my AIO.

Should i be concerned? I’m really new to this part of PC building and i would like some guidances :(

Help Request - GPU 3080 host spot temp

i have asus tuf 3080 oc
temps are good its just the hotspot that seems high
on 3dmark port royal and in rust under load temps are around 74c with hotspot at 99.5c
the maximum it has gotta is 67c and hotspot of 98c in rust at 360 watts with a slight over clock
should i replace the thermal past i do not want to replace the thermal pads and i looked up my I looked up my exact GPU model and I could open it without needing to replace any pads and I could just replace the thermal paste only but should I
My GPU has never been opened before it still has the sticker over the screw

Pretty sure I bought the worst binned Ryzen 7500F on earth

Just finished tuning my new Ryzen 5 7500F on a Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX with an Arctic Freezer 36 and an RTX 3080 FE. I was hyped to dial in PBO after reading everyone's "-30 all core" success stories.

Turns out, I lost the silicon lottery harder than anyone else. Here is how my tuning went:

• +200 MHz / -15 CO: Infinite boot loops and "Automatic Repair" screens.

• +100 MHz / -10 CO: Chip choked on the Windows startup noise and instantly BSOD'd.

• +100 MHz / 0 CO (Stock Voltage): Made it to the desktop, opened Discord, instantly hard-crashed.

My chip literally cannot handle a single megahertz past its default 5.05 GHz factory limit, nor can it handle a single millivolt of undervolting.

I’ve accepted defeat, left the clock overrides at 0, and just set PBO to "Enabled" so the motherboard can at least handle the power limits.

Pour one out for my bottom-tier silicon. Anyone else have a 7000 series chip this incredibly voltage-hungry?

Help Request - GPU Benchmarks aside, what are you guy's daily drive voltages for 5080 in MVolt+?

Adjusting the xbar and MSVDD voltages are kind of new we never used to do this before.

As someone who has fried chips in the past, I am a bit uneasy adding a lot of voltage, what are your daily drive Mvolt+ voltages and clocks?

Help Request - CPU Need help overclocking i5-12600k

Hi guys! I've been wanting to overclock my i5-12600k and I was wondering if there are any safe overclock settings? I've seen people recommending to overclock the P-core and E-core seperately but I'm not sure how that works. There has also been mention about undervolting too but it'd only reduce the power usage and heat, correct?

What would be the safe value for this CPU?

My specs are MSI Z690-a pro wifi ddr4, 4x8GB 3200MHz DDR4, RX 9070 XT and I am using NZXT Kraken Z63 280mm

What’s the sketchiest overclock you’ve ever run just to get that extra performance?

We’ve all seen benchmarks go brrrr after a driver update, but let’s be honest sometimes overclocking feels like changing random numbers and praying the PC doesn’t turn into a space heater.

What’s the most ridiculous overclock you’ve tried that somehow worked? And have you ever pushed things a little too far and instantly regretted it?

r/overclocking • • 20h ago

What's the most misleading sign that an overclock is stable?

One thing I find interesting about overclocking is how an OC can look completely stable until you use a different workload. You can pass a benchmark, play games for hours, and think you've nailed your settings, only to get a random error when running something you didn't expect to be demanding. Different workloads seem to expose different weaknesses, whether it's memory instability, transient power behavior, or temperatures that gradually creep up. For the more experienced overclockers here, what's a stability test or real-world scenario that has caught you off guard even after an OC passed your usual testing routine? I'd be interested in hearing what failed and what ultimately helped you identify the problem.

Im doing PBO +200 with a -20 curve optimizer currently, my ram sub timings are pretty tight, I also have a moderate GPU OC on msi afterburner.

i was just wondering which tests are the absolute best to verify 100% fps, frametimes, overall performance stability for my specific OCs and hardware.

Mvolt+ voltage offsets

So, i noticed that setting a negative voltage offset in mvolt behaves in a very similar manner to amd PBO, where setting a negative curve optimizer makes the cpu clock higher. The same happened with mvolt+ nvidia gpus.

However, is it worth touching sys and xbar voltage offsets? Or better leave those at 0?

New driver make speedway go brrrr 5080

Post image
26 Upvotes

http://www.3dmark.com/sw/3992271

Welp the new driver fixed whatever was making speedway scores lower🤷🏻

However, you now need the latest mvolt in order to bios override voltages and basically every other setting since Nvidia keeps trying to nerf mvolt.

You may have noticed only speedway sees score improvements while every other benchmark has the same top scores.

I believe this is because the new driver has messed up mvolt enforced input current limit behaviour as I'm not seeing my supposedly increased 12vhpwr ampage go up near as much as it did in the previous driver for power hungry benchmarks.

Please let me know if you get the same behaviour or I'm just having a skill issue lol.

Benchmarks like steel Nomad likes higher input current limits quite a lot, in fact the new driver gives me lower scores for Steel Nomad which supports my claim.

My fun goal is now to hit over 120fps or even better yet beat the top 1 4090. I see Alphacool has a water cooler compatible with 5080 Windforce sff pcb, will have to plan out exactly how I'm gonna go about water cooling this card as I think that's the only way going forward with this. Will watercool sometime in the next coming months.

Help Request - GPU 3070ti seems to be running a bit hot

Hey everybody, I got this 3070ti used a few weeks ago and i felt like it was running a bit loud in games, so today I went and tried to undervolt it, and when i started running it, I realized the temps weren't changing as it was already throttling and downclocked to 1550ish mhz whilst being 90c. All fans were at 95% speed due to fan control. I'm pretty new to this stuff, any ideas on what's going wrong and how to fix it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did some basic overclocks to multiple different parts of top of completely changing my fan curves.

Basically, I'm just waiting on stability tests atp. on the bright sidetemps are better under load so far.

Looking for Guide Help and questions for overclocking my Laptop 5080

Hello, I am new to overclocking and I have some questions. My laptop is an Acer preditor Helios 18 ai 5080 32gb (PH18-73-90A6). I am using MSI afterburner, and I can push the core clock up to +425 without instability, and memory over around +2000. This nets me a score of around 5800 on steel nomad dx12, but my system runs around 58°c during the benchmark, so I feel I have decent thermal headroom. How do people get scores of over 7000, almost reaching 8000 with the GPU's 175W tgp? Do they undervolt while overclocking to get there? What are some things I can do to get a high stable overclock with a score above 6000? Also my bios locks my system ram at 4800hz instead of 5600hz would that hurt the benchmark's performance?
