Build Upgrade How dumb would it be to sell my 3090 for a 5080?
Looking to upgrade my graphics card. I would like to get a 5090, but that's clearly out of the picture. Should I just hold onto my 3090?

I am skipping this gen, i live in a shit 3rd world country in south america and i need my upgrades to last. a 5070 ti is almost 2 grand usd here and 5080 even more. Also amd is out of the question because nvidia has many features i prefer like nvidia inspector, unlimited shader cache size, dlss and more. i am gonna wait for rtx 6000 to see if they have decent specs for the price.

Hi, I recently switched from a Mac to a PC to play some great games. I have a question: when I’m running errands or going for a walk, which is better - shutting it down or putting it into sleep mode? I’m mainly concerned about whether it will hurt the machine.
I know it’s different, but on my Mac, I just put it in sleep mode.
What’s your best practice? Thanks so much !

My son is looking to build a new pc and I haven't built anything in a while but I randomly see people saying avoid x brand but i didn't keep track of anything.
The build will be 9800x3d, 32gb ram, 5070ti
what brand of motherboards should i avoid? I think we are getting a b850 chipset if it matters
which brand of 5070ti to avoid?
which brand of ram to avoid?
any other components or brands to avoid?
Thanks for the help.

After turning on my pc and getting to the login screen, both the keyboard and mouse don't work for like 5-10 seconds and then work perfectly? Any ideas or is this normal? Windows 11

How much will I lose in power with only a PCI 4 connection?

A little context — I sold a r5 2600, rx 6600 xt pc on Facebook marketplace a little over a week ago. All temps/item condition looked good and games ran well. I told the buyer to message me if there were any issues, a week later I get a message and we hop on a call. The buyer says he turned the pc off and turned it back on an hour later, it said he had lost connection to the internet or something then stopped working (I’ve been roughly 10 pc’s now that’s not a very high number but I’ve NEVER had an issue, well besides maybe one motherboard) when I called him I found at the vga light was on. Long story short I ended up walking the buyer through reseating the gpu and this also did not fix the problem. I’ve done all troubleshooting steps my question is how do I proceed with the buyer? (I’m in high-school and don’t have infinite cash disposal and Facebook is ussualy sold as-is)

I got a discarded Lenovo ThinkCenter “Tiny” M92P 3237 (I think page50 in this pdf spec but with 500gb HDD) from work (wiped, running Win7). Coincidentally I have an old gaming laptop around that same era that kicked the bucket recently.
Long wanted to try building my own PC but I’ve been worried about breaking something. What I’ve got now is basically free/broken anyway so it’s a good time to learn😅
I’ve been thinking to use the desktop as some sort of server, as is, for hobby projects or take the gamble and attempt to use my old laptop for donor parts.
From what I understand, on one hand the desktop sounds very customizable on the other hand, desktops and laptop components don’t usually go hand in hand. With some AI googling, I believe out of all the components I might be able to upgrade the RAM (my biggest hope - desktop has 4GB), the HDD (nice to have), and WIFI (nice to have)
As a complete beginner (I just use PC not build them), does this seem like a reachable goal ? Or would I be better off and settle for how it is now (since it works)
Donor Laptop specs (+ comments):
Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X IMPACT 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 8GB)
(The desktop sounds like it uses a laptop motherboard to save space, meaning it has matching DDR3 SODIMM slots?)
1st Hard Disk 1TB WD SLIM BLUE WD10SPCX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (5400 rpm)
(Sounds like this is easily swappable, so I can go from 500gb to 1TB)
Wireless/Wired Networking GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL® AC-7260 HMC (867Mbps, 802.11AC) +
BLUETOOTH
(The laptop's Wi-Fi card is a removable Mini PCIe (Half Mini Card / HMC) form factor. [1]
The desktop motherboard has an empty PCIe Mini Card slot built directly inside. Might be able to unscrew the Intel AC-7260 card from the laptop + plug it in??? (Note: You will need to pull the internal Wi-Fi antenna wires out of the laptop screen panel and route them inside the desktop case as well so you get a wireless signal).
[1, 2] )
M.2 SSD Drive 120GB Kingston SSDNow mS200 mSATA (upto 550MB/sR | 520MB/sW)
(It sounds like this is a dead standard of SSD and no way to use it?)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M - 3.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
(Soldered to motherboard??)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4720HQ (2.60GHz, 3.5GHz Turbo)
(Different socket / soldered?)
Sound Card Intel 2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC/Headphone Jack
(Soldered to motherboard??)

I thought I paid a lot for my GPU back at the start of 2025, but GOD DAMN!
Given the now even more insane pricing of GPU's, I'm getting a little nervous about the longevity of my 5090. It's been about 1.5 years of running with no issues so you would think I'm clear and safe if I don't touch any of it, but I hear stories of shit still going wrong and I don't want to risk it. As such I think I am LONG overdue for setting up some sort of melting pin protection. As far as I can tell there seem to be three options available of differing prices. So I'm interested to see what the consensus is.
Now obviously one of these options is crazy expensive, but given the cost of a new 5090 I view it as a worthwhile investment if that is the BEST option.
Corsair Thermal Protect Cable - £15
By far the cheapest option but not sure how good/effective these cables are. My PSU is a BeQuiet! and I don't love the idea of mixing cables especially given warranties etc, and I don't think you can get these in a 90 degree plug either which is a bummer. It's probably my least favourite option but it's also the cheapest by a wide margin.
Thermal Grizzly Wireview Pro 2 - £100-150 depending on Noctua or not
I like the look of this although I'm not convinced adding more connecting points is the right solution. At least in theory with this one it will prevent an overload and shut the PC down with a small amount of warning. I think I can JUST about squeeze one in with about 3-5mm clearance to the glass of my O11 Vision Chrome case, but I will need to adapt the F Panel cabling as my case has an all in one plug. Not difficult of course but a minor pain in the arse.
MSI MPG AI1300TS - £340
Okay so this is very clearly an expensive option. I CAN afford it, and if it really is the best option I don't mind doing it, but I really have no idea if it's worth it. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that MSI do a 90 degree 12VHPWR connector either, so would likely have to get a third party one which again isn't ideal. I'm also not sure whether a 3rd party cable will affect the safeguard functionality either. I need to do a bit of research to find out.
Any thoughts on which of these options is the best to go for?

Hi everyone, I need some advice on upgrading my gaming PC.
I’m currently using a 1080p 200Hz monitor and mainly play Valorant and Apex Legends. My goal is to get more consistent 240+ FPS in Valorant, ideally reaching 300 FPS, while also getting better performance in Apex.
My current PC specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-14400
GPU: ASUS Dual RTX 4060 8GB
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B760M-A WIFI D4
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3600 (2×16GB)
SSD: Team T-Force Cardea Z44L
CPU cooler: Thermalright Assassin X 120 R SE
PSU: SilverStone ET650 650W
Case: Neotez Deus ARGB TG mATX
In Valorant, I usually get around 150–250 FPS, with dips that I’d like to improve.
My upgrade plan:
I’m considering selling my RTX 4060, i5-14400, CPU cooler and PSU, then upgrading to:
Intel Core i7-14700KF
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB, RX 9070 GRE, or RX 9060 XT 16GB
A quality 850W PSU
A better CPU cooler
I would keep my existing motherboard, RAM, SSD and case, assuming compatibility and GPU clearance are fine.
I’m also considering whether an i5-14600KF would be worth it instead, or whether I should just keep my i5-14400 and spend more on the GPU.
Questions:
Is the i7-14700KF worth upgrading to from my i5-14400 for high-FPS Valorant?
At 1080p, would the RX 9060 XT 16GB or RX 9070 GRE be the better value for Valorant and Apex?
Would the RX 9070 XT be overkill for my 1080p 200Hz monitor?
Is it worth keeping my current LGA1700 motherboard and DDR4 RAM, or should I save for a new AM5 build?
After selling my RTX 4060, i5-14400, cooler and PSU, would upgrading my current PC make more financial sense than buying a new prebuilt?
I’m in Singapore, so prices are in SGD. My budget for the upgrade is around S$2,000 before subtracting any money from selling my existing parts.
I’d appreciate advice based on real gaming performance, value for money and upgrade longevity. Thanks!

Hi all,
Current specs
-ryzen 9 5900xt 16c
-64 gig DDR4 ram
-3060ti.
My 3060ti is struggling these days with my new 4K monitor… would a 9070xt be bottlenecked by my cpu? Are there any other GPU suggestions? Looking to stretch fhis AM4 rig into the future

Is it really that much of a difference in performance? I mean the biggest difference is the year that it has been released in but is there something that i don't know?

So i did loads of research on which parts are the best for my budget, and heres what I came up with on pcpartpicker:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
GPU: ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition
Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO VDH WIFI
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB
SSD: Crucial P3 Plus 2TB
PSU: MSI MAG A650GLS PCIE5
Case: DARKROCK EC2 ATX Mid Tower
Is this a W build for my budget or could I do better?

Hello,
For the pc I have the AIO came with basic fans. These fans have a static pressure of 3.06mmH20. With these the stress test comes out to 80 degrees celsius (Amd ryzen 7 7800x3d). The fans i want to switch to have a static pressure of 2.6mmH20. Is this a big difference in practice of is it small enough that it is possible?
Thanks in advance!

I'm in America and this is my pc, so I want one that will last some years. This will be my everything pc from work to gaming. I was hoping for a 5070ti for ray tracing but i might just get the 9070xt. I was hoping to spend max $2200 USD. Just wondering if I can improve this pc build my friend made.
r/buildapc • u/sorryyoulose1234 • 29m ago
Should I get a 5070? I live in netherlands, my budget is 1000 euros, and im not looking for max fps. I want to be able to play cinematic games at 4k eith nvidia ray and path tracing, and im ok eith using dlss or frame gen as long as the quality is good. Im also gonna be playing cs2 at 1080p competitive, so ill need good fps for that. My planned cpu is 270k cause im also doing local hosting, professional workloads, and studd that needs lots of cores. I might also get one of the new nova lake cpus eith rhe bfc when they come out if they are reasonably priced. But should I het the 5070?

This is my first ever PC build. The last time I owned a PC for gaming was about 2009, which was some Dell PC with a graphics card I bought for a few hundred dollars from Best Buy. I am building this primarily to play WoW - Forever on a 1440p 240hz monitor I have. Looking at pricing I know I can get better specs for a similar price for a pre-built, but I want to try and build a PC myself. I used a cpu bottleneck site to find a CPU/GPU pairing that would be great for WoW and settled on the 7800x3d and 9070. I went with the 9070 vs. 9070xt because WoW isn't as demanding as some modern titles, and it looks like the 9070 was more efficient / less heat. Everything else I picked with was seemed to have high ratings and fit in the selected Lian Li case.
Outside the CPU/GPU/Case selection, is there anything standing out that looks wrong? I am trying to keep this in the $2k ballpark.
Thanks for any advice anyone is willing to provide!

I’m getting tired of playing on consoles. I’ve been wanting to make the switch to pc for a while but the pricing is daunting.
Is ~$700 a realistic budget for a build? I know it’s probably not if I want something good quality, but that’s what I’m working with. I plan on saving up in the mean time for upgrades.
All advice is welcome, I don’t know anything about pcs except that theyre fricking expensive.

Both in the same price range, planning to use it with a 7800x3D at the moment, but will upgrade in the future if neccesary.

Budget: 1.500€
Location: Germany
Use:
Peripherals: Will re-use my old stuff.
Note: This is my current set up (from 2015): https://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/fastreetr/saved/yxchmG If you think it makes sense I might reuse some of these parts. The 1 TB SSD is only two years old for example. I don't know if it also makes sense to re-use the cooler and power supply.
This is my first time building my own PC, so I'm quite new to all of it. I asked ChatGPT but I think it's not very helpful since it suggested 64gb of DDR5 RAM which is basically the whole budget.
I hope you can help me 😊

I recently swapped my pc case and came across the problem that the fans are a 5 pin and my motherboard(h510m h v 2) doesn’t have a slot for rgb. I don’t know how it was connected in my old case but my new one (nzxt h3 flow) doesn’t have cables for it.
Do I need completely new fans and do I need a hub with the new fans?
If yes are the TR TL-C12CW-S fan okay with the
Thermalright ARGB & Fan Hub?
