Meta I've been banned, why?

Good day everyone!

The mod team has noticed a drastic uptick in insult bot behavior in the sub. I understand reading can be difficult, but of our few rules in place the one that sees the most action is the no personal insults aka Rule 2.

We've been exceedingly lenient with reminders and a dash of warnings. However, the issue persists and pops up in site wide posts that draw in non regular users. Since this is kind of harshing the vibe we're temporarily pausing reminders and warnings and going into straight 7 day bans.

What does personal insult mean?

Any sort of insult directed at the user themselves in response to a comment.

What isn't a personal insult?

Insulting public figures, people not directly related to the conversation thread, etc.

For instance, you can say dems/republicans/breatharianism are idiots. If you're talking to a dem/republican/breatharianism you cannot call them an idiot.

Debate the position or policy, do not disparage the user.

Business The loss of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery still stings

• Upvotes

What a waste. Here in the coffee capitol of America, the birthplace of Starbucks, we had two and now we don't have any. The Cap Hill location was a terrific place to hang out on the weekday, a great date spot, and a major tourist attraction. On the weekend, the line went all the way down to the bridge sometimes.

I was just in Chicago a few weeks ago and the Roastery there is also a major, major tourist attraction. It's extremely nice, I really enjoyed my visit.

We still don't really have a good answer on why it closed, but all I can say is I really miss it.

Government WA voters, don't mess with the mail; get those ballots to a dropbox | Editorial

As I said yesterday, and as Steve Hobbs is quoted in today's Seattle Times editorial saying:

"Instead, now that voters are getting ready to turn in their votes, many are wondering if mailing their ballot is the best way.

By now, the answer is no, Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs told the editorial board. If you haven’t returned your ballot yet, use a dropbox if at all possible."

News Musk documentary disappearing earlier than planned from Seattle area theaters

I tried to post to r/Seattle last week honestly asking why Musk was in zero theaters in Seattle & only playing in Bellevue & Auburn, and they immediately blocked it. Now it's suddenly gone from hundreds of theaters across the country earlier than planned, including Bellevue. It's only airing in Auburn through Tuesday. Otherwise you have to go to eastern WA to see it, but prob not for much longer.

I know it's four hours about a horrible powerful criminal troll, but it's prob not going to make it to HBO next year as planned after Musk threw in $1bil to help keep Ellison's mega merger intact after Cisco's stock slide & their bonds going near junk-grade. Just sending up a flare for folks who want to see it.

Crime The city paid out more than 3.5 million because of tens of thousands of deleted texts related to CHOP in 2020. What was the outcome for those involved?

If you remember, it's been more than 3 years since

a federal judge has handed down sanctions against the City of Seattle for deleting tens of thousands of text messages from the phones of top officials.

Those named were: Mayor Jenny Durkan,

Police Chief Carmen Best, Fire Chief Harold Scoggins, assistant Police Chief Eric Greening; Seattle Public Utilities official Idris Beauregard, SPD’s chief strategy officer Chris Fischer; and Seattle Emergency Operations Center coordinator Kenneth Neafcy.

So where are they now?

Harold Scoggins is still a fire chief. In 2020 he made 119.39 an hour. He currently makes $179.55 an hour.

Eric Greening settled with the city for almost a million dollars due to claims of retaliation by former Chief Diaz, based on race and gender discrimination. He resigned in February 2026 after having been on paid leave for a year, as part of the agreement.

Idris Beauregard is SPU’s Chief Administrative Officer. He oversees the People, Culture, and Community (PCC) Branch. In 2020 he was making 62.74 an hour. He is currently making $129.87 an hour.

Chris Fischer transition to the private sector and is senior vice-president of Public Safety for Medows Mental Health policy center.

Kenneth Neafcy was making 56.03 an hour in 2020. He currently makes 72.29 an hour as a strategic advisor for the courts Seattle Emergency Operations Center.

Since 2022, Carmen Best has held the position of

Director of Global Security Risk Operations at Microsoft

Jenny Durkan is with the BCLP law firm, heading the white collar crime division.

The deleted texts cost taxpayers over 3.5 million dollars including payouts to the whistleblowers, the Seattle times, and lawsuits over chop/chaz where monetary amounts were awarded specifically because of the deleted texts.

Question Tourist need contact lenses

Hey guys, accidentally grabbed wrong contact lenses and I am now in dire need of a pair of monthly contacts. Any chance you guys know a place I can get them and as a tourist - do I need to give prescription? I pretty much have the same power since a while and could get them over the counter back home.

Spooky locations near Seattle for just the wedding ceremony/photos?

• Upvotes

I'm looking for a place in or around Seattle that has spooky/haunted vibes. It can be indoor or outdoor.

We wouldn't have the reception there (were not having one), it would just be the ceremony and family photos.

Any tips are appreciated!

Question How do you feel about PacMed?

I've found a PCP I want to try at PacMed, but the reviews I read of the PacMed facilities aren't very good. The problems are mostly due to administrative issues and/or billing.

I know that people don't usually post a review when they're happy about something (unless they are blown away happy), so I know that some of the online reviews can be distorted toward negative things.

So I'm asking...for people who've used PacMed physicians, how do you generally feel about the whole picture of the place?

I'm on Regence Individual Market, and my in-network options are pretty much Swedish, Pacmed and Providence (plus independent doctors). Soooo, there's no reason to suggest alternatives elsewhere.

Thank you for any help.

Business Amazon ends its six-year legal fight with former AWS managers over alleged data center kickbacks - Nelson was never criminally charged, and the family spent more than $3 million on legal fees

The FBI seized $892,135 from the Nelsons' bank accounts in 2020, including hundreds of thousands of dollars Amy Nelson earned as CEO of The Riveter. Nelson was investigated by the FBI but never charged, and a federal judge ruled in 2023 that Amazon's Code of Conduct wasn't a legally enforceable contract.

By then, the Nelsons had sold their West Seattle home and emptied their retirement accounts to pay lawyers, and they had moved with their four daughters to Hawaii and then Ohio, where Amy's parents live. The family had spent more than $3 million on legal fees, she told KIRO 7 in 2023.

~ Six years, $892,135 seized, a West Seattle house sold, no charges filed, and the settlement terms are confidential. Whatever the conduct was, the process did the punishing.

Everett clubhouse stays strong amid funding cuts - the state cut its parent organization's funding about 30% in July, and more than 40% of members there have jobs or go to school

In July, the Washington State Health Care Authority cut funding for HERO House NW by about 30%.

But despite the challenges, more than 40% of the members at the Everett clubhouse have jobs or go to school.

~ Thirty percent less money for the place that gets people working, right before the state starts requiring them to work.
