As a general rule, if it's recognizable as AI, it's not allowed in r/Buffalo from now on with some exceptions. Please report these posts if you see them.

A definition of AI Slop: AI slop (also known as slop content or simply as slop) is digital content made with generative artificial intelligence that is perceived as lacking in effort, quality, or meaning, and produced in high volume as clickbait to gain advantage in the attention economy, or earn money.

Central Terminal from the air, as published in December 1930. The 1907 plan for this site came with a commuter line on the Belt Line, a small downtown station for tickets and baggage, and streetcars to serve it. Only the station was built.

Rental requirements (3x income)

This is more of a vent post, but rentals requiring 3x the rent as monthly income here has made apartment searching unbearable.

If I made $4k/month as a young person starting out don’t they think I’d just buy a house?

I feel as though having both a credit barrier, as well as a 3x income requirement is a little much, especially with how high the cost of living outside of housing is lately.

Interested in others thoughts here.

Looking for free books to keep (any format/genre)

Hey Buffalo!

I am looking to gather some free books that I can take home and keep permanently. I am completely open to any format, paperbacks, hardcovers, fiction, non-fiction, or older copies are all great.

Does anyone know of local community spots, organizational giveaways, or hubs around town where you can get free books to keep?

Alternatively, if you are currently clearing out your bookshelves or trying to downsize a box of books you no longer want, let me know!

Thanks so much!

Has anyone had a package delivered to a Canada Post post office or similar location on the other side of the border, then picked it up? What’s the easiest way to do it?

Campaigning in the Voting Line

I am in line for early voting at the Amherst Senior Center. It’s a very long line. One of the County Legislature candidates is campaigning at the end of the line. While she is over 100 feet from the actual polling site, this still feels sketchy. It’s leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Amherst Term Limit Ballot Vote

Resolution 2026-547 (Amherst Term Limits) is up for vote on election day, and I've seen a lot of misinformation regarding it. So wanted to post the context of the resolution, and trying not to bias it towards any political party.

Term limits were passed by the Amherst town board in 2006, which set up 2 consecutive 4-year term limit. So yes, there are currently term limits in place. (Here is where the resolution comes into play) In 2023, New York Court of Appeals ruled in Hoehmann v. Town of Clarkstown that term limits for municipal offices must be approved by public vote. Because the 2006 law was approved by Amherst town hall, and not by public vote, it can be challenged and most likely be struck down (upon which to revert to no term limits).

So the Resolution is aimed at patching the legal vulnerability, by putting it up for vote. However, there are a few changes from the 2006 law.

- For most positions, the 2 4-year limit stays the same.

- Town clerk and highway superintendent have increased term limits (from 2 4-year terms to 3 4-year terms)

- "Reset the clock" - past terms before Nov 2, 2027 do not count toward the term limit.

Voting No keeps the 2006 limits in place, along with its vulnerabilities.

Voting Yes keeps passes the resolution and patches the legal vulnerability, but resets the clock and increases the term limit for the 2 positions (remainder keeps their current term limits)

Wig/Hair Shops

Hi all, I’m a female that’s been experiencing hair loss over the last year and finally at the point where I’d like to explore a wig or hair topper. Totally lost where to start, so looking for recs of a place that sells hair that is knowledgeable and can walk me through different options and how to attach/style. Need to get my mojo back and this is a step towards that. Thanks everyone!

Question Cotton Candy?

I'm looking for a place that sells county fair-style cotton candy. The type they spin in-house. I've only ever seen it at fairs and festivals but it's a special request from my dad for his birthday. Premade tubbed versions would be fine as a last resort.

Gym with classes in buffalo?

22M here, just moved to Buffalo and looking for a gym with classes. I was pretty athletic growing up but let it slide in college and put on some weight. I'm not trying to bodybuild, I just want to feel athletic again and focus on functional training.

I've found Nickel City Athletic and Rockpile Athletic. Has anyone been to either? Any other spots worth checking out?

hi neighbors! advice for someone entering the legal field?

hi all!! i wanted to seek advice on getting my foot into the door in the legal field! i am currently a second year student in college planning for law school after i graduate, and i would really like to explore any entry level legal positions available, but i have gotten no luck so far.

i have applied to around 30-40 law firms in the buffalo and surrounding areas, but only got two phone interviews that didn’t lead to a hire.

i was just wondering if anyone had a few tips as a young woman trying to enter the legal field!
thank you! i am willing to answer any questions:)!

Question View from the pit at Shea's?

My husband and I splurged on VIP tickets to Bluey’s big play in January as part of our toddlers Christmas gift. We saw that AAA seats 5 6 and seven were available and snapped them up. But now, after the adrenaline rush, I’m hoping that he’s not going to be craning his neck the entire time to see. Has anyone else sat in that area who can give some insight?

I’ve sat in the orchestra before, but never in the pit that close. Plus, i am blind, so i’m certainly no expert on the view from anywhere.

Downtown Buffalo

Is there any good news on the horizon / successful efforts to bring workers back to the urban core?

I’m a Buffalo native that’s lived out of town for 15 years (LA and Chicago). I’m back in town this weekend and am downtown for the first time since 2022. Downtown looks to be in the worst shape of my adult life (I’m 39). My grandpa had an office in the Brisbane building for 40+ years, so it’s especially sad to see Lafayette Square look like the setting of a zombie movie. I’ve tried showing the friends I have visiting from Chicago nicer areas of the city, but they are anchored to the images they’ve seen outside their hotels. Is there any hope of breaking what appears to be a vicious cycle?

Duplicate/Repost Hotel & restaurant recommendations

Hi! My husband and I are coming to Buffalo to see The Basement Yard boys on November 7 at Shea’s Theater. We also just got married last weekend so we are treating this as somewhat of a mini moon (especially since our daughter is staying in Rochester with her grandparents 😜)

We are looking for recommendations for a nice hotel (maybe one that offers room service) and restaurant recommendations for dinner before the show.

TIA😊
