My mum wants a new laptop, no rush, but she knows very little about what makes a good laptop. I want to get her something decent but she doesnt need anything fancy. She will not want any linux based machine and would probably want to stick to windows since she uses microsoft apps and she understands it best. Any recommendations people have? Would need at least 512gb storage

I used an Asus Vivobook before, now switched to Lenovo. What was your best laptop ever?

Hi I am studying computer engineering, I am in third grade and I need to switch my laptop(its not working any more) for something else.
I was thinking of macbooks since a lot of my classmates use it. I was thinking either ThinkPad T14 or macbook pro and to be honest macbook suit my needs better because there is almost no fan voice amazing battery life and Charger isnt bulky.Exactly what I want.
But here is the problem. I never used any apple devices before and I dont plan to get one especcially iphones maybe ipad but not until I graduate. I have a android phone(HONOR) android tablet(Samsung) and windows desktop gaming pc.
Everyone around me is anti apple and they all say that since I dont use any apple devices it will shatter my work place. Getting into apple ecosystem atleast right now is impossible for me.
İf not macbook I would go with ThinkPad. I KNOW its the exact opposite of macs and goes against everything I want from a laptop but since no Windows laptop would give me an experience like macbook might aswell go with thinkapd since they have a lot of feautures I love.
Also even if I get a macbook I would still get a ThinkPad in addition to my macbook or get a macbook if I had a ThinkPad İN THE FUTURE When I have chance
Also I am not buying laptop for gaming. I have desktop pc for that as I mentioned before.
İs macbook good for me or should I get a Windows.

For some context, I’m 20 years old and currently studying medicine. My older cousin gave me his old Asus Vivobook X540UAR, which I plan to pass on to my younger brother for school, while using my savings to buy a new laptop. I’m from Argentina, and I currently have about 700 USD saved up, which I’d like to put toward an HP EliteBook 840 G8 (Intel Core i7-1185G7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1080p Full HD, Windows 11). Is this a good choice, given my budget? I don’t really play graphically demanding games; the most intensive titles I’ve run are Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi! I currently use a Lenovo ideapad flex 5 but am considering switching to a macbook neo for convenience in terms of being able to link my calendars well in my phone, and also cause it is quite affordable.
For context, i’m a law student and don’t need crazy good tech. I’m also not too tech savvy, so idk much about the storage, battery life, etc. but I want something which is convenient and easy to carry. Also the main reason I like my ideapad is because of being able to use it as a tablet, but the touch screen doesn’t work too well for the stylus and writing comes out looking kinda shabby.
My ideapad is still new-ish, i got it in 2023. The battery life has gone down a bit and I’ve had to get the battery replaced previously as well last december.
All views are appreciated:))

I have an ASUS VivoBook Go 15 with a Ryzen 5 7520U, integrated Radeon graphics, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD. I've been using it for around 2.5 years now.
I'm thinking about getting a new, more powerful laptop with a dedicated GPU and 1TB of storage, mainly for gaming. I'm confused whether I should sell my current ASUS and upgrade to a better laptop or keep it for everyday use and studies and get a separate gaming laptop.
What would you guys do in my situation? Is keeping two laptops worth it, or should I just sell this one and get a more powerful machine? 💻🎮

I've suspected a motherboard issue with my Lenovo Legion Y540 (i5 9th Gen, GTX 1650).
I took it to an authorised Lenovo service centre and paid ₹909 for diagnosis. They told me the entire motherboard was dead and needed to be replaced, which would cost around ₹25,000–₹30,000.
They also said manufacturing of this motherboard has been discontinued, so finding a replacement would be difficult.
Then I took the laptop to a local repair shop. They charged ₹250 for diagnosis and told me that the motherboard is in good overall condition, but one IC has failed.
They estimated the repair cost at ₹7,800.
I've asked the authorised service centre FOUR TIMES to tell me the exact diagnosis and which component has failed, considering I paid ₹909 just for the diagnosis. Every time, they simply repeated that the entire motherboard was dead.
They also refused to provide me with a written diagnostic report.
Now I'm confused. Is it possible that the authorised service centre is recommending a complete motherboard replacement when only one IC needs to be replaced? Or could the local shop's diagnosis be incorrect?
I understand that replacing an individual IC isn't always possible, but I don't want to spend ₹25,000–₹30,000 on a six-year-old laptop if the existing motherboard can be repaired.
What do you guys think? Has anyone experienced something similar with Lenovo or laptop motherboard repairs?

I’m planning to get a macbook pro with the base chip (24gb/1tb) for a new workflow i’m moving into, so the config is pretty much settled. What i can’t decide is the timing
My current mac still works for what i do now, but it’s right at its limit. It slows down development, limits what i can run at the same time, and i end up putting off building and testing things because i know it won’t cope. It definitely won’t be enough for where my workflow is heading, especially as i start exploring dev and ai stuff
The m6 was just announced, but in my country new macs usually arrive 2–3 months after the global launch, so it probably won’t be here until around january. Meanwhile the m5 is available now
I can hold out a few more months if it’s worth it, but i’d rather not wait without a good reason. Now that we know what the m6 brings, is it worth waiting for, or should i just buy the m5 now?

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on whether this screen can still be saved or if a replacement is my only option.
This is a Dell Latitude 5530. The glossy screen is heavily worn down with scratches and keyboard imprints caused by years of daily bike commuting to work (flexing/pressure in my backpack, I suppose). (the big light on the screen is just a lamp to show the scratches)
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Are there any DIY fixes (like screen polish, a screen protector that masks scratches, etc.) or is the panel too far gone?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Hi all! I tried deleting firefox with revo uninstaller, which I've been using for the past year or so to skip the annoying confirmations and fake slow load times apps tend to inject while uninstalling, but now for some reason this started happening the moment I decided to cancel the uninstalling process. I restarted and everything appeared normal, but it started up again a while afterwards. (Ps, ignore the weird renames and files, I've had this since I was 13 and I never really bothered deleting the cringe stuff.)

hi guys, thank you in advance if anyone reads this!
ive been using my asus vivobook X515EA since about late 2023 or early 2024 (although the bios date is 10/11/22), the battery has always been pretty terrible and i never got around to doing anything about it while it was still on warranty 😠its also pretty slow but i havent found any fixes that make that much of a difference to that
idk if anyone needs to know this but the processor is 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz (2.42 GHz) and graphics card is Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (128 MB)
it has 477gb of storage with 126gb free (i also have no idea what is taking up so much storage) and 8gb of ram and i think alot is taken up but i have no idea what by (the screenshot below is taken with only google open and like not even 20 tabs)

i mostly just use it for work, watching tv, occasionally light gaming but only things like roblox and minecraft which last time i tried were both so slow and would freeze every few minutes
i love it but idk if i should replace the battery plus i dont know anything abt them - how much are batteries, where do you get them from, could i do it myself or if i should buy a new laptop how do i even begin to know what to look for/which one i want, (also can i switch everything over from this to a new one and is it easy) and is it gonna be more cost effective in the long run to buy a battery instead? or what should i do?
any help or advice would be appreciated, im happy to give any more information!

Hi everyone,
My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB VRAM).
A few days ago, I encountered a problem while playing Dota 2. The game suddenly froze and became unresponsive, but all other applications continued to work normally.
I tried relaunching the game and restarting my laptop, but nothing worked. The game still froze a few seconds after launching. However, when I disabled the NVIDIA GPU driver and used only the integrated GPU, the game ran normally.
I also checked the GPU performance in Task Manager and noticed that the dedicated VRAM usage remained at 0 GB when launching Dota 2. The game itself continued running, but the display was frozen.
I've tried installing both newer and older versions of the NVIDIA driver, but nothing seems to have fixed the problem. More recently, my laptop also crashed with a VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL blue-screen error.
Does this mean my GPU fried or something wrong with the driver. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with their GTX 1650? If so, what did you do to fix it?
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with my laptop and would appreciate some help.
Current problem: When I press the power button, the white power LED on the side turns on and stays on, but the display shows nothing. The screen stays completely black.
History: This didn't start today. It has been building up for a while:
At first, the laptop would work normally for about an hour, then the screen would suddenly go off.
After that, it would not turn back on right away. I had to shut it down, wait around an hour, and only then would it start again.
If I tried to start it before waiting, it would not boot at all.
Over time the problem got worse, and now it won't show a display at all, even after waiting.
What I'm unsure about: Could this be overheating, a failing RAM module, a motherboard or GPU problem, or something else? The "works for an hour, then needs a cool-down period" pattern makes me suspect a heat-related issue.
Laptop details: [Brand : HP 14s series ] / [bought in 2022 ] / [Windows version 11 ]
What I can try if you suggest: I can reseat the RAM, test with an external monitor, or do a hard reset (removing the battery or holding the power button for 30 seconds).
Has anyone faced something similar? Any advice on what to check first, or whether this is likely repairable, would be great. Thanks in advance!
