During kitten season, which occurs largely in the spring and summer, it is not uncommon to stumble upon a nest of kittens. Your first instinct is to help them, which is awesome, but first you need to read this thread!
First I want to make a point very clear: kittens have the greatest chance of survival if their mother is in the picture. As much as rescues and foster homes try, we cannot ever do as good of a job taking care of them as their real mom does! Kittens require frequent nursing (typically a couple of times an hour), help eliminating (mother stimulates them with her tongue to pee and poop), and a lot of warmth and attention. Trust me - waking up four times a night to feed bottle babies is not fun!
A single kitten wandering alone is often abandoned (either by a human or the mother), and should be rescued quickly - wait and watch from afar for 20-30 minutes to see if the mom is just in the middle of transporting it. If no mother has come in that time, rescue it.

A little update on my firstborn! Today he turns one! I’ve got him (another) new bed for later and will be getting plenty treats and scratches. Kept some of his favourite thing to play with (Pokemon coins) too!
Please continue to be an absolute unit and nice to your little sister

It’s Vox’s first Halloween and of course he cannot escape wearing a costume when his Mom loves Halloween so much. Some photos of him taking on the Count Voxula persona— maybe not super scary, but super cute!

rescued an orphaned kitten and adopted him after he was abandoned in the woods (we waited about 12 hours of hearing him cry throughout the night and morning but didn't see mama and havent seen her since and found him in crying in distress in thorn bushes). he was so small we assumed he was 2 weeks but his first vet appointment they estimated 4 weeks because his canines are coming in (he was half a pound which is half what he should weigh at his age).
his FIV and feline leukemia came back negative. no fleas. no heart murmur. gave him a dewormer.
been feeding kmr as vet recommended not to wean him until 6 weeks. initially had trouble latching but is doing a lot better after testing different nipples.
he has developed a URI and vet prescribed an eye drop and azithromycin. he is active, eating from bottle, and no discharge from eyes or nose though he does sound congested so we have a humidifier for him and take him in the bathroom for saunas while we shower. keeping an eye out for mouth breathing and discharge.
his poop is alternating between being a light brown and a green. i wanted to know whether his URI, meds, or formula could be causing the green poop before i take a stool sample to the vet. have the funds to do so but this week im working 10 hour shifts so the vet is closed when im free so just wanted to see if anyone has experienced anything similar.
TLDR: 4 1/2 week old runty kitten has poop that alternates between light brown and green. on kmr, been dewormed, and is taking eye drops and azithromycin for a URI. has second vet appointment in november.
thanks from me and my new little buddy edgar allan poe who we nicknamed poe.

These babies evolved and now are little devils, but hey I discovered they had worms all three of them, takes to the vet and are now worn free, they’re so cute, they bother my two older cats alot but I’m pretty sure they’re relationships is a lot more better than they used to be since we introduced them to eachother, life is good
