Traffic/Transportation GHOE PSA: Don’t drink and drive this week. Seriously.

For everyone coming to Greensboro for GHOE, just a heads-up: North Carolina’s Booze It & Lose It campaign runs through November 1.

That means increased law enforcement patrols and sobriety checkpoints statewide.

Greensboro PD is already going to have its hands full with homecoming, but don’t forget about the state troopers. Don’t assume the roads won’t be heavily patrolled just because local police are busy.

Most of y’all already know better, but don’t even risk that quick trip to the store after you’ve been drinking. Traffic is already going to be a nightmare, and a DWI or an accident is a hell of a way to end your homecoming.

Call an Uber. Call a Lyft. Get a sober ride.

Enjoy the Greatest Homecoming on Earth, have a damn good time, and make it home safely.

Housing 22M With stable full-time employment seeing roommate!

Good afternoon all,

I'm looking move to Greensboro within the next two weeks preferably and would like to explore my options before signing a lease for a place that is too big for just me myself and I.

For some background, I am (soon to be) a senior security engineer at a local company and am moving from a similar position in a Charlotte-based company that I have worked for three years. I love information technology, climbing/bouldering, and reading. Yes I am 22 but I am an established adult and have been for years. I am quite obsessed with my space being clean and am a clean person, I do not smoke or vape, I am responsible, and I am financially independent with no debts and healthy savings.

In an interest in being as transparent as possible, I do have a few quirks and odd requirements of a place that I live. I have quite a bit of lab equipment and servers that I run 24/7 and will require one of my firewall appliances ideally plugged directly into the modem and ran into my server rack which would live in whatever private space I have. Ideally I'd like to park it in communal space like a living room or similar and it is very clean looking and quiet and can be used to accent a room, but I understand if that is a non-negotiable lol.

I will be working from home 2 days a week from home ideally for about 6-8 months before moving into my own place. I am a night owl but I make it a point to be as quiet as possible and respect roommates and neighbors in communal spaces like condos or townhomes.

I'm open to anyone of any age seeking a roommate and nothing more or less. I will swing 100% of the electricity bill month to month given the server rack situation.

Send me a chat if you want to talk, I'm down to grab coffee whenever for a vibe check.

Housing Anyone dealt with Greensboro Code Compliance over a landlord? How long did the process take?

I’ve been dealing with recurring cockroaches in my rental since September. I first requested professional pest control on September 3.

After weeks of back-and-forth, photos, videos, and repeated requests, management finally sent pest control out on October 15. That’s 42 days after my initial request, and it was only an inspection.

The technicians recommended treatment, but management says we need to sign consent forms first. Those forms were promised October 14. We still haven’t received them, and no treatment date has been provided.
It’s now been 53 days since my original request, and I’m still finding cockroaches, including babies.

I filed a complaint with Greensboro Code Compliance on September 30. Management has since expressed interest in reviewing the city’s inspection findings. I’m not sure whether they’re waiting on that inspection before committing to further work, but the lack of progress is frustrating.

For anyone who’s filed a housing complaint with Greensboro Code Compliance, how long did it take to get an inspection? Did the city actually get your landlord to fix things, and what was the process like?

Hey all,

My wife and I were planning on going to the Woods of terror a couple of weeks ago with some other family, yet it got canceled due to rain. We were seeing if we would be able to reschedule however it is looking like we won't be able to. We have 4 tickets , about $300, and are willing to sell them for $200 if anyone is interested, just let me know.

The dates available to reschedule are 10/29, 10/30, 10/31, 11/1, 11/6, 11/7. More information can for sure be provided, just let me know.

Question Hit-and-Run

Hi everyone! I was involved in a hit-and-run this morning, October 26, around 6:50 AM on I-40 West, approximately half a mile before Exit 211 (Gallimore Dairy Road).
I was driving a red Honda CR-V when a black sedan changed lanes into my vehicle, striking my driver’s-side rear passenger door. The driver left without stopping.
I’m hoping someone commuting westbound toward Greensboro around 6:40–7:00 AM might have captured the incident or the black sedan on their dashcam.
I’ve filed a police report. If you witnessed anything or have footage, please send me a private message.
Thank you so much!

Housing Looking for a great apartment.

I’m starting to search for my next place. I would love to live in a great area that’s walkable for shopping and entertainment. Maybe Friendly Center area? Lol

Also looking for a place that has decent sound proofing so I won’t be able to hear every conversation from my neighbors or even their farts.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

News Piedmont memorial cemetery

Okay Greensboro Reddit, I need people with local lore to get in here because this Piedmont Memorial Park investigation has my imagination going completely off the rails..

The sheriff’s office is apparently investigating the cemetery over licensing and operations issues, and obviously the real explanation is probably going to be something boring involving paperwork, money, records, or regulations..

BUT..

You cannot tell me “poorly managed cemetery under criminal investigation” and expect my brain not to immediately create twelve different horror movie plots..

Like how badly managed are we talking??  Bad enough that people could just wander around burying random things and nobody would notice??  Are there jars under trees??  Bundles??  Coins??  Candles??  Somebody’s weird little hoodoo work from 2009 still sitting under six inches of dirt??  I am NOT saying any of this actually happened, I am saying I desperately want the local gossip..

And then there is the other possibility, which is obviously the Stephen King scenario..  Somebody has secretly been using part of the property as the Piedmont version of Pet Sematary and now there is a 19 year old cat wandering McConnell Road that technically died during the Obama administration..

I need people who actually know this cemetery to tell me what it has been like over the years..  Was it abandoned looking??  Were people able to just come and go??  Any weird stories??  Family members buried there??  Strange things left around graves??  Actual management problems people noticed before this investigation??

Again, I am joking about the supernatural part and not accusing anybody of practicing anything illegal..  I just feel like “cemetery under investigation” is the beginning of a story and the news article stopped exactly where my curiosity started..

Give me the mundane explanation, the neighborhood lore, the creepy stories, or the full Pet Sematary conspiracy..  I’ll take all of it..

Recommendation 100% Gasoline

Saw an article recently stating that gas stations are now allowed to put an additional 5% ethanol in their product for a total of 15%. I can't help but wonder if this is part of the reason my gas seems not to last as long for the quantity.

So, with that in mind, what gas stations around the area of northern Battleground Ave. offer the option of non-ethanol gas?

Food Kvass in Greensboro?

Are there any stores in Greensboro that sell kvass, or any restaurants that have it as part of their menu?

I've been curious to try it, there are apparently some brands akin to soda, but I'm looking for the more traditional kvass that is basically Eastern European kombucha.

Cheers and thanks for the help.

Discussion Any Casual TCG, mainly Yu-Gi-Oh, player groups?

Hello Gboro fam!

I am looking if there are any super casual TCG player groups, mainly Yu-Gi-Oh, in the area. I used to play at Lucky's many moon ago when I was in HS with some buds, but I moved away from card games when I got back in school.

I mostly played causal decks, but did play competitive during a lot of the 2015-early 2017 scene.

I do play on Master Duel sometimes, but looking to get back into groups playing on paper.

I am open to super casual MTG; like Yu-Gi-Oh, I played online until about Edge of Eternity, but have taken a break. Never really played Commander outside of my small circle via Tabletop simulator.

I know way less about Pokemon TCG, but have tried to play here and there.

Yeah, that is the long and short of it. Let me know if you have a small group, or know a pretty old-man returning to the table safe place to play. I am a teacher, so looking for low commitment and flexible play times during week nights or maybe weekend play.
