Can someone ID this light for me? The only lead I have is that it may be tacstar. It’s depicted in the tactical marksman book from 1996

Business trip to Shanghai chances to buy flashlights there?

Hello everyone! I’ll be going on a business trip to Shanghai in a couple of days, and I was wondering if there are any good places to check out for flashlights in case I have some free time. Or is Shanghai not the best city for that?

Question LED pen light question

Bought a cheap LED pen light. Stopped working after a recent floor drop. Attached is a pic of the LED. IIRC, there were 4 piece LEDs but 1 looks melted/burnt out now. Is this fubar? There was also an earlier incident when I had to force out a corroded battery inside but it was functional after that.

Any recommendations for quality penlights are welcome too.

For Acebeam X75 BP4 users - Found the PERFECT bag

Amazon de link, I am sure you will be able to find this brand or very close bags to it.

Originally intended for camera gear, it fits the BP4 with the plastic cover plate very very well. Got two of them and the quality is also very nice. Certainly enough for the cell packs and better than just having them crash into each other and other things in your backpack.

Nv1010

Going to order an m21 for the nv1010 craze. Few questions i have.

1.What did we decide is the better host and reflector in Simon's ready to options?

  1. What does the m21k beam do vs the other options?

  2. What IS the best battery on his list now? Have been getting eve 50pl. Noticed there is tons of 6000 and 6500 mah that do 70a plus like ampirius 60q.

Im a floody guy. I usually get my emitters in 5000k. Never owned a tir.

Thrunite TH50 21700 Headlamp First Impressions

I was invited to review this light by Thrunite and they sent it to me free of charge. I am grateful for the invitation.

The Cool White beam has excellent focus and throw. For outdoor distances I have found that Low CRI works fine. The tint imo is very nice and white, it does not look green at all to my eyes.

We can see in the composite photo that the duv is not very high. I think this can be a useful hiking light, with long runtime, thanks to the 21700 battery size. There is a convenient USB-C charging port. It does not work as a powerbank.

The Warm White LED is floody and evenly diffused. It could work well for close range use such as its intended use inside a tent or at close range at a campsite. The Low CRI and rather high duv are imo not ideal for my personal preferences at close range. I find the beam color has a slightly greenish cast, although at higher outputs it is not very noticeable. I would prefer a High CRI LED with more rosy tint.

The Red LED has a single output of about 8 lumens and is nicely floody and diffused. It would be good for very close range use. I would prefer if it had additional higher output options.

The Red LED in the TH50 has a good red color, although I dont know its nanometer specification. Here it is next to a 660nm beam, for comparison:

One of the unique features of the User Interface is that in addition to the switch button, there is a sliding switch that will lock the light so it can not turn on accidentally. It is a very good safety feature and is easy to use.

The UI itself is very basic and uses last mode memory. One of the things I do not like about the UI is that when the light is On, clicking the button advances to the next mode, instead of turning off. To actually turn the light off requires Holding the switch button, which is something I am not used to.

Another thing about the UI that does not suit my personal preferences is that there is no shortcut to lowest output. Whichever LED is turned on will be at the last used output, and to get to the lowest mode requires cycling up through the other outputs, to reach the lowest mode.

As I think about this TH50, for its intended purpose as a multi LED camping package, I can see that it meets several specific needs, in a single convenient package

There is a very focused and throwy cool white beam for hiking. A floody warm beam for general close range use in camp. Plus a Red Light mode that could be useful when waking up in the middle of the night to go to use a toilet.

It is also useful that the light is a Headlamp so all of those tasks can be accomplished with both hands free.

Light to Spot Coyotes

I’m thinking Wurkkos TD01, convoy m21e, or maybe a dm11. We have a group of very healthy coyotes in my neighbourhood and they grabbed a cat last night. I usually walk with a 2700k light that’s low key but it didn’t cut it to look into the field. I realized I don’t have any throwy lights anymore. My dog is pretty small so I want to be able to look around. I have a few ts22 and a d4v2 that I will try tonight but from what I remember they are pretty floody.

Help with purchasing a new Torch

I think this is the group that I was reading a few years ago about flashlights unless there are SubReddits I don’t know about!? Anyhow I’m an independent Contractor and as I age it’s harder to see at night. I have had 2 torches/flashlights that lasted for several years now but not long enough. Both are broken now 🥹 They were both purchased on Temu I believe by two random people. I always carried them on a lanyard. So in the meantime, I need to purchase a new torch/flashlight that has high lumens and strong visibility to be able to see numbers on houses, etc. when I deliver at night. Although now my biggest concern is I’m like a lot of of us with financial stress stresses so I can’t really afford anything above $30 preferably wanting to spend under $50, so help me out what would be a good purchase!? Are lumens even the most important factor… I know stability would be a good thing because flashlights should not break if they drop once or twice.

Help picking new running headlamp - Fenix HL18R-T v2.0 vs HM55R

Both lights are same weight but HM55R has wider strap and the brighter turbo mode for an extra $20.

On the other hand, the HL18R looks like a good all-around light, with a warmer flood and AAA battery option.

Has anyone tried both these and can help push one way or the other?

Convoy Order was delivered - here's some beans

Here you go u/njbillk1

I asked the community a couple weekends ago for some driver recs for my first Convoy order and here's the beans. I am really impressed with the S21E. It's not that big and puts out impressive light. I'll be adding a few more of them for the cars. The C8+ is probably my second favorite because of the size. The other two toss some impressive light, with the L21A being more of a party light or something and the M21K being more floody. For reference, the chicken coupe is about 50 yrds and the tree is around 100 yrds. I am going to need to add some lights once I stop blowing money on other hobbies 😂

Im curious as to what lights people would recommend for night rowing. Preferably: easily mountable, waterproof to a couple meters, usb C rechargeable, white light, more flood than throw. Thanks!

Question How long should I leave batteries in the Wurkkos DL40?

Hey guys, I finally decided that I would get the Wurkkos DL40. Coming from a lot of hobbies, including RC cars, I learned that you should never leave batteries inside the vehicle. I learned that this is the same with certain flashlights. I asked Google about this and it said that I should just unscrew the cap a bit and I'm good. Is this alright already or should I completely remove the batteries to be safe?? And would leaving the batteries for a day or two hurt??? Thanks.

Water resistance of firefly-outdoors USB charging ports

Anyone have any experience or reliable 2nd hand reports? I'm thinking of getting one of their lights with a USB charging port and water resistance is a big deal to me.

Their web site says they use magnetic caps to seal the port which makes sense.

I have several of the X1Q core which I like because it lacks a charging port and is therefore more reliably waterproof. Thinking of branching out a little.

Recommendation Looking for a straight-body flashlight with CSP1919 flood LEDs and an SFT-40 spot

Hallo zusammen,

Danke!

Question Thoughts on NICRON flashlights?

Are there any long term Nicron users here? Their flashlights are pretty affordable, but I haven't seen many posts about the brand here, so Im unsure about their reliability.

Gift Advice

Hello!

I’m looking for a gift for my lovely partner who is my favourite person. They love a good flashlight and I’ve perused the subreddit but having a hard time knowing where to begin!!

They currently have a small flashlight from Skillhunt (not sure which one, it is about 3 inches long, can clip to a bag and headlamp attachment and the light comes from the side). The rest of his flashlights are random buys from hardware or dollar stores.

Through casual conversation I’ve been able to get some of his wishlist requirements:

1) light that comes from the end of the flashlight rather than the side
2) good colour fidelity
3) general purpose/wide use cases - he likes to take walks at night, putter around our yard, do home Reno projects

Looking for something in the $50-150 range. We are in Canada which I believe impacts some shipping but I have relatives in the US who could also help me order if needed. Thank you!!!!!

Question 18650/21700 headlight recommendations

Hey all,

Looking for a headlight with following features:

  • IP68
  • Works with unprotected batteries, no proprietary stuff (looking at you Olight)
  • Decently bright, 1600+ lumen
  • Has a red light mode that is also bright
  • Magnetic charging

Nice to have:

  • Battery level indication of some sort - # of flashes / dedicated led / segmented led
  • Reasonably long warranty

The lights i looked at so far were:

Olight Perun 3 - seems to tick most of the boxes except needing their proprietary battery, which seems to fail quite often, at least according to the reviews on their website and Amazon.

Nitecore HC70 - red seemed weak and usb-c charging, not magnetic.

Fenix HM60R - again, not magnetic.

Thanks for your tips!

Flashlight Replacement Button Compatibility

Hey peeps, I have an ArmyTek Wizard C2 Pro warm whose on-off / mode selection button has been mangled. I think I have found a button that is a direct replacement due to dimension, construction, and connection styles being from what I can tell identical.

If this replacement button checks out I am going to order it and allow an electronics repair store to replace the button since I don't have the tooling required for this job.

Also do any of you have a resource for ~11.5mm tophat style button caps, I've lost the original to this flashlight.

Here's the replacement button make and model.
