Biology ELI5: How do some insects reproduce incestually for multiple generations without complete genetic degradation?
As an example, a cockroach might lay an egg somewhere that hatches hundreds of cockroaches which are all siblings, but then dozens of those siblings will mate with each other, and then their children will mate with each other, and some with their aunts/uncles potentially, and this will just go on and on with seemingly no issues. How is this possible?

Physics ELI5: Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH)
Hopefully this is properly flaired. People have been talking about ETH and AI lately and I don't understand what ETH really is.
Bonus for ELI5: How did AI supposedly disprove ETH—But I'm mostly interested in knowing what ETH is on its own.

I’m relatively new to playing rugby and learning a lot. One thing I have not wrapped my head around yet at all is playing advantage. Whether it’s called in one of my club matches or watching the pros play, I am not grasping the concept yet. What does it mean? When is it granted? When is it deemed over?
TIA!

Biology ELI5 does water diffuse through a cell membrane only by passing through aquaporins?
Studying osmosis stuff for an exam, I thought water was able to slip through gaps in cell membranes, but a quiz question my professor posted said to cross the cell membrane water must pass through aquaporins.

Physics ELI5 Space and Gravity's affect on light
Connecting two other ELI5s. This is something that I've always struggled with.
Space is nothing. There is no actual "fabric" of space. There are things in space, and the "space" in between is.. nothing.
Nothing, as I understand it, is without mass, energy, information, anything. There is no thing to bend.
But! Gravity doesn't bend light because light doesn't have mass. It bends space and we see light bend along it.
How can nothingness be bent?
And why doesn't light just pass through empty nothingness on the same trajectory, if it isn't being acted on by gravity? OR is it that it does do this and it's only our 3D perception that it has changed trajectory?
When we talk about gravity bending space, are we actually talking about the distribution of Stuff within a given area, as it relates to another body, due to the effect of gravity? e.g. the distribution of Stuff around a random planet
I know this is very long and contains multiple questions. My hope is that by including all of this, it will make clear where my misunderstanding is. The real question is, how can nothing be bent?

Other ELI5 What is "high-density life"?
I randomly came across this term "high-density life" in a self-help kind of article or speech. It says strong people live their lives with more "density". And these strong and successful people manage to experience more, create more, complete more and stuff. I feel anxious when I read it because I can't help feeling that I'm wasting my life.
What do you know about "life density”? Do you think the whole concept exists? What do you do to make your life "denser" if you agree on this concept?

Other ELI5: Why keep Staten Island part of New York City?
Given the rather distinctive makeup of Staten Island vs. the rest of New York City, there must be some good reasons why secession hasn’t been allowed to happen and why SI hasn’t been preemptively kicked out of NYC.
I’m interested in understanding what those reasons could be at a basic level.

Engineering ELI5: Sorry if this is a dumb question but.. why doesn't the straw in thermal cups/tumblers screw onto the base?
I have an Owala cup. I've never been a cup girl but I seen the color, bought it and never drunk out of anything else since.
However- the damn plastic straw thing inside is always falling off inside the cup.
Imagine a mouth full of the most vile, disgusting liquor (corn liquor) and the instant relief you feel when you realize you have a refreshing chaser next to you, you open the lid, and nothing comes out bc the straw isnt attached. Now I had to swallow satan piss, raw dog.
Anyway- maybe this is just an Owala thing but all the cups i've ever seen and owned but never used all have the same mechanics of just pulling it for it to come apart.

Biology ELI5: Gym knowledge?!
Gym knowledge?!
Can someone explain me like im 5? Or even better 2 years old?
I think I speak english at a sufficient level.
I would like to do gym/calisthenics.
But like - I think I am either too dumb, or maybe to demanding.
It is not a problem for me to learn math, programming, japanese etc.
I can find my way and logic in all of that more or less.
But I have absolutely no idea where people find all the knowledge and logic for the gym.
It seems like they see so much information and logic in very random videos.
And just to clarify - I am not interested in videos that will show me beginner routine.
I am not interested in becoming PT or getting overly specific science info as if I was getting PHD.
I am looking for consecutive source of knowledge. Not advice - knowledge.
Place where people will talk to me like - there are sets and reps it means this and this; there is some things called cutting and bulking and what does it mean; that exercises should be done in order and why? You know, the things that should be absolute, base level known and clear.
Not "start with this exercise and those supplements" kind of thing.
Because it is not really logical to do what other people say without knowing or understanding anything. Especially as nobody takes responsibility except for me.
I had PT for half a year - everybody praised PT to heaven. And he had to go. He left me for chasing fame - so I realized, after he have left that I dont know anything, or understand anything or even understand better anything from youtube videos tiktoks or anything I try to use to learn on my own.
And the worst thing is - If I would like to schedule meeting with some PT, like explain things to me like im 5. They cant, dont want to, dont see reason for it. I CAN PAY FOR IT DAMMIT.
Im sorry, but im a beginner, I need things explain to me, because I never really trained (except for those 6 months) or were interested in gym. I need someone to give me basics, so I can build my knowledge on something. So I can continue.
It is not only things I dont understand but things I dont know exist. And I should know them.
Somebody will probably tell me, that this is overthinking paralysis. But like im not overthinking it, because I just dont understand what I should even know or understand those youtube videos.
Everybody praises youtubers and calling them experts, but like I cannot piece together those information in something that I can use, or even see in general. I am not saying they are wrong or it does not help people. But it just doesn't do anything for me.
So can someone explain me what is wrong with me? What do I not see?
Am I googling wrong? Am I thinking wrong? Am I too demanding?

Biology ELI5: Why isn't the heat painful when we experience heatwaves while it is the case when touching a hot object?
On hot summer nights, or travelling on a very hot metro train like the Central Line in London, you experience the heat, but it is firmly warm and irritating, often making you feel drowsy and sweat to much. But when you touch a very hot object like hot food, hotpots, a pan, or the oven without gloves, it is sharply painful, as if you got bitten by something, which can make a person to scream.
Why is this difference so significant?
