Hello,
I've been attending the Produce Plus events for a couple months now. Was unemployed up until about a month ago. I've found that friends of mine that have been receiving SNAP benefits for years did not know about Produce Plus. As someone who has medically necessary dietary restrictions, I'm forever grateful to the DHS worker who did my SNAP application and told me about this.
This is a free program put on by Food For Lane County that anyone can participate in. You do not need to be receiving or qualify for SNAP benefits to attend and take what you need. Anyone can show up. The only information they ask for is for you to scribble a 'signature' on a sign in sheet and to know how many people you're feeding with the food.
You can check the FFLC website, at the bottom of the list of food pantries, and it will show you all of the Produce Plus dates/times/locations. You basically just walk thru and take the produce that you want. Sometimes they will limit quantity on high demand items like watermelons or avocados depending on how many they have. Most of the produce is organic if that's your thing too.
There are 3 every week in my calendar:
Tuesday's at 3pm
At Kokwel Wellness Center (in the parking lot near Burger King and in front of Albertsons on River road).
Wednesday's at 10am
At the red barn behind Kalapuya and Prairie Mountain, on Patriot Way.
Thursday's at 1pm
At the ODHS Family Wellness Center on W11th.
I recommend arriving early to wait in line if you're able to, or at the very least no later than 15-30 minutes after the start time, as things can go quickly.
The one on Tuesdays is my favorite. Huge variety of produce. I cannot have gluten but they always have infinite loaves of bread and sometimes baked goods (an occasional loaf of gluten free bread for me).
The one on Wednesdays typically will have 1-2 dairy products. Smaller variety of produce but different stuff than what's typically at the one on Tue. Have not been able to make it to the one on Thur. at a reasonable time.
Things are tough for a lot of people right now and there are so many people unemployed and struggling. Produce Plus is the only reason I've eaten some weeks/months.
Stay safe and please share this info with those in your life that could use it!

A federal judge Friday, Oct. 23, said the way U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement moves Oregon detainees to Washington is “incredibly troubling.”
In a court hearing, U.S. District Judge Mustafa Kasubhai cited concerns about speed of transport and a “lack of humanity” in providing for basic needs of detainees.
“Expecting they can just pull off on the side of the road and urinate in public on the side of the road is deplorable,” Kasubhai said after hearing testimony from an ICE officer who has driven detainees to Washington, where there’s a large ICE detention center in Tacoma.
The driver said he has been instructed to pull over roadside where there’s a “nonpublic view” for detainees needing to urinate if they are confined in leg chains.
ICE is “doing everything they can to beat the clock” before Oregon judicial orders take effect.
If a detainee files what’s known as a habeas petition challenging the lawfulness of detention, Oregon judges for months have almost immediately been issuing “status quo” orders.
Because there are no overnight ICE facilities in Oregon, if a detainee has not yet been transported out of state, a status quo order typically means the person is released by ICE, pending a decision by an Oregon judge on the legal challenge. That may take weeks or months.

Is Sweet Basil closed for good? I haven’t seen them open since I’ve been back in Eugene (couple months) and today I saw this while walking by. Are they closing for good, or maybe relocating? This was one of my favorite Thai places in the city 😭

Serious question. I go through a drive thru and they give you like 2 ketchups for 3 large fries, you order from the apps and pay extra for sauces and when its delivered no sauce. You go to resturants, you ask for ranch or whatever and they reluctantly bring it to you 10 minutes later.
Cornucopia asked if I wanted a sauce for my fries, I said ranch - brought the fries over and no ranch, asked for some again...even though the host offered it to begin with...same day took my mom to Jazzy ladies for breakfast and ordered the country fried steak..they put a small dollop of gravy on the place completely leaving the fried steak dry.
What the heck?!

PeaceHealth is holding their 2.5% offer, but added two middle fingers to employees today and basically said, “fuck you, we don’t care if you make a livable wage.” This raise offer PH came to the table with is less than the cost of inflation…by a landslide.
To show how insulting and asinine this offer is, a Pharmacy Tech making $26.22/hr would get a raise of a WHOPPING 0.65 cent raise. SIXTY-FIVE CENTS. And they calls these jobs a career, yet refuse to even match a raise to account for the cost of inflation?
As you might assume, PH lawyer, Daniel Adlong, continues to be disrespectful and misogynistic towards the almost all women OFNHP bargaining team.
So folks, remember, when you seek care at PeaceHealth, just remember that many of the employees who care for you faithfully are struggling to make ends meet and falling below the federal poverty line. Keep in the back of your mind, too, that this is PeaceHealth saying, with this offer on paper, that it doesn’t care about nor take care of its employees.
EDIT: I only used pharmacy techs as an example for pay because they are the lowest paid in these examples. The highest paid is only a $1.30 raise. Still insulting.

Every year my wife and I do a basic bitch fall day. Put on our Uggs and sweaters, get a pumpkin spice latte, and head out and do some fall activities guilt free.
Last year we visited all the covered bridges around Cottage Grove. Previous years we've done the wineries, the farmers markets and pumpkin patches, Pisgah Mushroom Fest, and mushroom hunting.
Anyone have any fresh ideas for things to do in Lane/Linn Counties celebrating Fall that are not too crowded and affordable? Preferably less than an hour from Eugene. Dog friendly is a plus!

Hey all, new here but sis told me i should post. I live over in West Eugene at an apartment and this morning i went to the mail box only to find unopened sopping wet ballots strewn in the bushes. There were about 7 i think. So, folks are trying to sabotage here in eugene.... jsyk.
My daughter’s birthday is around the corner and I would love to get her a binder for all her Pokémon cards! I know I could order online through Amazon or go somewhere like Best Buy/Gamestop, but I was wondering if anyone had any other local suggestions? I’d rather go that route, if possible. Thanks!

Out of sheer stupidity and panic from an event (a crown fell out and I thought it had to be taken care of asap) I ended up booking an appointment at a local place that ended up as several thousand dollars (they said the crown couldn't be reattached well and recommended getting a new one + a treatment for other issues) I have insurance which only covers preventive and didn't do much at all.
I'm incredibly terrified and I want to explore other options before committing to any appointments. Does anybody know good places that are open to new patients that could give a second opinion?

Watch out guys. The superhero sex offender has reportedly been seen wearing a Deadpool costume and nonverbally interacting with people in public since August and up until at least 2 weeks ago, according to multiple witnesses. He was specifically seen at the Saturday Market.
Just spreading the word. If anyone has any photos of him, please send them over.

My cat almost certainly has a UTI, my vet is too busy to see him but I'm not sure it's Emergency Vet level. Obviously i don't want him in pain any longer than he has to be. Any recommendations for good vet that might be able to fit him in today? Anyone have experience using the antibiotics for horses or something & dosing for a cat?

We need to have somebody out to remove moss on our roof. Does anyone have a recommendation for a company? This is for a two story house.

(Or screw stuff to trees, in this case.)
What a lovely sign.
Urban trees have a hard time and a shortened lifespan, what with the car pollution, the urban heat island, and root systems constrained by pavement. We need them for shade and joy. Please don't shorten their lifespan by punching holes in their bark.
