The pigeons on our block suddenly disappeared - now we know why!
Not sure if this is a male or female but almost certain it’s a Cooper’s Hawk enjoying its dinner.

Bird ID Request Cackling goose?
Only picture of these two geese but I didnt realize how much smaller the one on the right was until I got home and was looking at photos. Quality isnt great but could I be looking at a vagrant cackling goose? Located in East Kootenay BC, Canada (SE BC) where they have been seen before but not many times even during migration seasons. Maybe its just a small/young Canada goose?

📷 Photo Giant Hummingbird at Ensifera ensifera, Cusco, Perú
A giant among hummingbirds, appropriately named the Giant Hummingbird. Few places offer as many opportunities to photograph this impressive bird as Ensifera ensifera. Perched, in flight, however you like!

Advice Rough numbers of sandhill cranes migrating through Nebraska 1920s-1930s
I saw Wisconsin had drastically low numbers in the 30s, like 35 mated pairs. What about those migrating through Nebraska on the Platte? Gathering information for a creative work I’m writing. I couldn’t find much information about numbers before 1945 in Nebraska.
I don’t need exact numbers, just a rough estimate. Thanks!

Bird ID Request Huge flock of birds in Raleigh NC
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I only see them around dusk. They’ve been hanging out around this spot for a couple weeks. I read chimney swifts can’t perch (and if you pause you’ll see a lot of them sitting in the trees) so I’m guessing something else? I have seen the swift-nado a couple times this year though so I am unsure… still decently new so thank you!

Discussion What is more likely to flock at sundown in Aruba in late October — purple Martin or Caribbean Martin?
Big swarm, at least 30+ of em soaring pretty high in the air above the barn swallows at dusk. Near the beach on the western coast.

Discussion Lost birds
I went with my 85yo birding father to South Dakota in 2023 and we obsessively used MERLIN. And now only one of those birds is on my life list. I'm gutted.
Is there any way to retrieve those?
When Merlin changed the app a few years back, it wasn't for the better but I don't think any others are better?

📷 Photo Close up Hawk Encounter
Had just parked to go into work and this hawk landed right on my car. I'm pretty sure it's a young cooper's hawk but please correct me if i'm wrong. Super unafraid it wouldn't leave until i shooed it off, and was also seen on the back of my car hours later by a coworker.
