University I swear professors intentionally choose office hours when most people are in class.

• Upvotes

The entire time I have been here, I have been able to attend 2 of my professors office hours, I have had class during all the others hours because they seem to all be around M-Th 11am-1pm, essentially peak class hours.

Also, I know I can schedule office hours but scheduling it just to pop in chat and network feels very uncomfortable compared to going with groups to ask various questions.

Other UCLA vs Berkeley Applied Math — Honors, DSP, and Transfer Coursework

I’m a community college student planning to transfer in Fall 2028 for Applied Math. I can cross-enroll at UCSD for three upper-division courses and am considering MATH 109, 100A, and 100B.
My goals are UCLA Applied Math departmental honors + the BS/MA Departmental Scholars Program, or Berkeley Applied Math honors (ideally with IEOR).
Would UCSD abstract algebra transfer toward either major? Could taking it prevent me from taking honors versions after transferring? Would you recommend different UCSD courses to maximize transferable major credit and prepare for graduate math/OR programs?
I’d especially appreciate advice from current Applied Math students or transfers who’ve pursued these programs.

Other Start ups needing support/partnering

Any student start ups looking to add extra firepower?

Hi Berkeley crew. Alum here, now figuring out my next move after years of SEO/Content, growth, sales experience, negotiating contracts, and Product Manager like work. My last role was SVP of Growth.of course it being 2026, a lot of AI use and custom tooling and flows has been necessary to learn.

As I’m looking for my next thing, I’m most interested in start ups and feel I can bring a lot to the table. Not all opportunities are found on job boards and some may be in the scrappy stages. If you’ve got something in the works with a little motion and could use some help growing, let me know. For the right opportunity I could help some with capital too when it makes sense. And my tech network could prove helpful.

Even if you want to casually chat, DM me.

Other than the frats, what are some parties happening on Halloween? (Preferably ones that don't card). Of the frats, which ones will be the most fun?

University any recommendations on berkeley apartments

hey everyone! i'm currently looking into housing options around berkeley and could use some advice from people who have experience living near campus!
i'm mostly interested in off-campus apartments, preferably a 1 bedroom because having my own space and privacy is pretty important to me. i'm trying to figure out what's realistic in terms of rent and which areas are convenient for getting to campus. i'd still consider on-campus housing if there are options that offer a good amount of privacy, but i'd love to explore apartments first. i'm also curious whether there are any buildings that are particularly popular with students or any places i should avoid.

if you currently live in berkeley, where would you recommend looking? any advice about rent, utilities, transportation, or the general experience of living alone would be super helpful! thank you!! :)

Events/Organizations Rocky horror etiquette

Hi everyone! Been to several rocky horrors before at other venues, just bought tickets for the one at the Berkeley Theater on Halloween and so excited! Just wondering about etiquette in terms of outfits and everything? Generally I dress up pretty risqué and wanted to make sure I’m not showing up dressed as sexy Rocky if there’s gonna be families and everyone else is in sweatpants and hoodies. Hope this is the right place to ask!

CS/EECS Data 188: Introduction To Deep Learning

Does anyone know anything about this class? Couldn't find the course website. If you have taken it or know anything about it, is it worth taking? Even if I take CS 189? Any recommendations on the order between CS 189 and Data 188? How does it compare to CS 182?

Other Is it safe to phase II Data C8?

Sophomore here w/ early registration. I don't care if I get the in-person or online lecture, but I do need to get into the class. Is it worth taking the risk? Do people typically get in during phase 2? Thanks!

CS/EECS Has anyone taken Math 104 with Noah Olander or Gregory Parker?

I’m thinking about taking Math 104 with Noah Olander next semester. Has anyone taken his class before? How was the workload and grading?

Also, are there any other Math 104 professors you’d recommend?

CS/EECS deciding between eecs 126 and data c140

I wanna take a probability class next semester, i’ve heard some terrible things about eecs 126 so im kinda scared to take it. But I haven’t taken data c8 so I can’t take 140 since it’s a hard prerequisite. If I wanna take 140 i’ll have to wait another semester. Is there a huge benefit in taking eecs 126 over data c140?
