Only noticed this now
This entire time I thought the screenshot on ubuntu.com was an animated webp. But it's actually html. The time and date also follows your system. Just felt like sharing my discovery

Ubuntu 26.10, codenamed “Stonking Stingray”, has now arrived. Building
on the foundations of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, this release continues to
advance security, performance, and hardware support while introducing
new capabilities that look towards the future of Ubuntu. As always, these
improvements are the result of close collaboration between the Ubuntu
team, our community, and our partners. A huge thank you to all who
contributed.Ubuntu 26.10 brings significant progress for security, and strengthens
the platform with the full adoption of Rust-based coreutils,
post-quantum-ready package signing, and expanded TPM-backed full-disk
encryption support. Enterprise authentication gains deeper integration
with Microsoft Entra ID, including password and multi-factor
authentication. Linux kernel 7.3 extends support for the latest hardware,
alongside new RISC-V desktop images and optimized amd64v3 installation
images. On the desktop, GNOME 51 brings improvements to responsiveness,
accessibility, and usability, complemented by more consistent software
management and greater resilience under memory pressure. Ubuntu 26.10 also
introduces Myna, an opt-in, locally processed speech-to-text solution that
marks the first step towards a more natural, context-aware desktop
experience. With updated developer toolchains and expanded support for
accelerated AI workloads, Ubuntu 26.10 continues to evolve Ubuntu as a
secure, capable, and forward-looking open source platform.

I kept rebuilding the same desktop every time I set up a new machine, so I turned the entire setup into a portable kit.
Download the archive, run "./install.sh", then log out and back in.
What it sets up:
WhiteSur Dark icons with blue macOS-style folders and white page file icons.
A macOS cursor theme.
MacTahoe styling for GTK4 and libadwaita applications.
Dark mode for a consistent desktop experience.
A lightweight GNOME Shell extension for a glass-effect top bar.
A glass dock along the bottom of the screen.
Left-aligned window buttons.
Sticky notes directly on the desktop.
Built with safety and reversibility in mind:
No "sudo" required; everything stays inside your home directory.
Automatically backs up every setting before changing it.
Run "./uninstall.sh" to restore your previous desktop settings.
Use "--dry-run" to preview every change before applying it.
Compatibility:
- Tested on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with GNOME 46.
- Feedback is welcome, especially from users running GNOME 47 or 48.
GitHub: https://github.com/chhari07/ubuntu-mac-kit
I'd love to hear your feedback, suggestions, and compatibility reports. Contributions are welcome!
The goal is simple: make a macOS-inspired Ubuntu desktop portable, easy to set up, and safe to revert.

So, I'm considering updating to the latest LTS. It's been almost a month since the upgrade path opened up. Should I wait a bit longer for general issues to be fixed, if there are any?
I've attached a list of the containers I'm running. Anyone with a similar build, apps, or containers is welcome to share their experience!

I have a Dell Latitude 7280 running Windows and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS in a dual-boot setup. Everything was working fine at first, but Ubuntu started freezing just after booting.
Now, the system becomes unresponsive either during startup or shortly after login.
Has anyone experienced this issue on a Dell Latitude 7280 or with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS? What could be causing it, and what are the best steps to fix it?

I installed ubuntu 26.10 despite it being non-LTS. an issue i noticed was Ubuntu Dock (also dash to dock) with multi monitor. I keep my dash at the bottom with autohide enabled. it works just as expected in the primary monitor, but in the secondary monitor the dock behaves weird when i try to see it by moving the mouse to the bottom edge. it shows up but instantly autohides, again when i move the pointer away from the bottom, it similarly unhides for a moment and then autohides. i noticed same issue in gnome 51 in other distros. i myself tried out dash to dock extension in Fedora and CachyOS. so it is mostly an extension compatibility issue. hope when Ubuntu 28 ships with gnome 51, this small thing gets fixed.

UML is a program that runs a full Linux kernel as just another process. It works on Android without root access and also allows for running SystemD and Docker. Making it useful for those who do not have root access or a custom kernel.

I'm using a Samsung monitor, no way to screen fit or change resolution via the monitor controls, no way to do that either on display settings, resolution and refresh rate are options it offers, but has no other options. It's out my video card?
I run Mint and new updates have recently stopped showing change logs. I've been on google to find out what is going on and the ai assistant was telling me that this is also affecting Ubuntu users. I don't see any posts about it so I figured I'd ask if anyone on Ubuntu is affected by this as maybe the AI is feeding me false info.

I just installed Ubuntu 26.04 on a new laptop. For as long as I remember, environment variables in this file have been available in shells and other processes. Now they no longer are. As part of the installation, I mounted a second drive as /home. In that setup the home original home directory setup by a default Ubuntu installation got removed. Perhaps that included something important?
I’m coming from another laptop running Pop!_OS 24.04, where .profile is sourced as expected.
Has anything changed in how .profile is being handled in Ubuntu 26.04 or a recent GNOME version? Or did I mess up some other way?
I know that I can source "$HOME/.profile" in .zshrc as a ZSH specific workaround, but I’m looking for a proper solution.
If it helps, my dotfiles are available at https://github.com/remcohaszing/dotfiles.

I'm considering the Beelink SER8 with the Ryzen 7 8745HS and want to run Ubuntu on it as a home server for hosting my own LLMs for personal use.
Link: https://www.bee-link.com/products/beelink-ser8-8745hs
Specs as listed: CPU: Ryzen 7 8745HS (8C/16T, 65W TDP, no NPU) GPU: Radeon 780M iGPU RAM: 32GB DDR5-5600 (listed as upgradeable) Storage: 1TB NVMe, with a second M.2 slot Network: 2.5GbE and Intel AX200 Wi-Fi 6
My questions: - Does Ubuntu run well on the hardware? - Is the 780M usable for LLM on Ubuntu, or is CPU-only the realistic option? - If you've run something similar, or you'd recommend a different mini PC for this, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

I was reading through the new features in Ubuntu 26.10 (Stonking Stingray) and noticed the addition of Myna, the new native voice-to-text dictation tool that processes everything locally for privacy.

Hello,
im using a custom kernel on my Thinkpad because i had a hardware issue on a older kernel. The stock kernel for ubuntu 24.04 LTS has no hardware support for my MediaTek Wi-Fi 7 MT7925 card.
So if i upgrade my system to 26.04 LTS will it remove my custom kernel automatically and switches to 7.0 or do i have to do the manual installation of the 7.2.12-zabbly+ again in the GRUB settings?
I am a bit worried with the new update and im still a bit new to the linux multiverse... :)
Thank you so much for an answer :)

Hey guys, I’m thinking about switching to Linux, either Fedora or Ubuntu. Which one would you recommend, and why?

Hi all. Running 24.04 i cannot get VMware or Virtual box to work. I've upgraded to 26.04.1 and am having the same issues.
he character device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist.
Please install the virtualbox-dkms package and the appropriate
headers, most likely linux-headers-generic.
Ive reinstalled all this numerous times
I followed a guide to sign the drivers for VMware but this did not work either and neither will run a VM without these errors fixed
Help please

I recently moved from windows to Linux and run Ubuntu. I am having problem using KDEconnect as the clipboard can copy from my phone to my laptop. Claude says it's wayland issue. Tried ubuntu on xorg same thing. Plus my suspend stays in black screen claude says it's Nvidia issue.
