LOOKING FOR MENTOR Self-taught Python developer building a personal AI platform—seeking an architecture mentor

Hi everyone, I’m an Australian solo founder building Forge, a personal AI platform focused on persistent knowledge, evidence-based reasoning and keeping the owner in control.

The question behind it is: how can an assistant become more useful over time while keeping its knowledge traceable, its mistakes correctable and consequential changes subject to human approval?

I’m developing it in Python with a modular, service-based architecture. There’s working code covering knowledge storage, retrieval, evidence handling and reasoning, but it’s still under development. My immediate focus is reliability, testing and bringing the pieces into dependable everyday use.

My background is in commercial fishing. I started learning software development through this project 7-8 months ago, initially working on an Android phone with Termux. I use AI coding assistants extensively, and I’m putting serious effort into understanding and verifying the results.

I’d like to connect with someone experienced in software architecture, AI systems or taking an ambitious prototype towards a maintainable product. An occasional conversation would be valuable—someone who can challenge my assumptions, spot unnecessary complexity and help me judge what deserves attention next.

I’m looking for perspective and honest criticism, rather than someone to build it for me. I can bring focused questions, diagrams and small, sanitised examples without sharing the private codebase.

If that sounds interesting, I’d be very appreciative of a comment or message. Recommendations for communities where this kind of mentoring happens would also be welcome.

My timezone is Melbourne Australia but due to forge being my main focus and suffering from insomnia I'm available virtually 24/7.

LOOKING FOR BUDDIES Title: Looking to Connect with People Interested in Astronomy, Astrophysics & Space Technology 🌌

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm a first-year CSE student from Tamil Nadu, India (IST, UTC+5:30), with a strong interest in astronomy, astrophysics, and space technology. I'm currently learning software development and looking to connect with people who enjoy applying programming to space-related problems.

A little about me:

- Experience level: Beginner — still learning and building my technical skills.

- Current tech stack: Kotlin, Android development, Git, and Linux. I'm learning as I work on projects.

- Availability: Mostly online, with Sundays being the most convenient for longer discussions or collaborative work (IST).

- Interests: Astronomy software, scientific computing, astrophysics simulations, space exploration, and open-source projects.

What I'm currently working on:

I'm developing an Android astronomy app that uses smartphone sensors and astronomical calculations to determine where celestial objects should appear in the sky. My goal is to build a usable application and gradually explore features such as real-time sky identification and camera-based overlays.

Who I'd like to connect with:

I'd especially love to meet experienced developers, astronomy enthusiasts, researchers, or students who have similar interests. If you've worked with scientific software, astronomical data, simulations, computer vision, or mobile development, I'd be excited to learn from your experience.

I'm also happy to collaborate with fellow beginners who are motivated to learn by building things together.

My goal: Start with online discussions, exchange knowledge, contribute to small projects, and eventually build something meaningful together. I'm particularly interested in practical projects rather than just discussing ideas.

If any of this sounds interesting, feel free to comment or message me! I'd love to hear what you're learning or working on, and what kind of space-related projects interest you. 🚀

Looking for US-based AI / software engineers to connect with, build together, and cowork

Hey everyone!

I'm a software developer from India, currently spending most of my time around AI engineering and software development.

Lately, I've been looking to connect with people based in the US, especially California, who are genuinely curious about technology, enjoy discussing ideas, and are always building or experimenting with something.

Just to be clear: I'm not hiring, looking for a job, or trying to recruit anyone. I'm simply looking for a tech buddy someone I can learn with, exchange ideas with, hop on calls, and spend our otherwise unproductive time doing something meaningful together.

I'd love to find a few like-minded people to:

  • Talk about AI, software engineering, and interesting technical ideas.
  • Hop on casual calls and share what we're working on.
  • Do virtual coworking or coding sessions.
  • Maybe build a side project together if we click.

I'm not looking for a mentor, a job, or anything formal. Just genuine connections with people who enjoy building things and exchanging ideas.

I'm happy to start with a casual conversation and see where it goes.

If this sounds like you, drop a comment or DM me! I'd love to hear what you're currently building.

Making a small educational programming group

Timezone: CST
Stack: All (There is no need to stick to one language)
Experience level: Advanced
Goal: Create humanitarian coding projects

I am looking for a small group of people to make Christian coding content(3-4 people), like a programming studio. Examples include language learning of the Bible, video games in wholesome family friendly themes, IDEs, mods, game engine components, maybe geospatial work if you are inclined. I am an older 34 year old male and have been relentlessly studying Computer Science for 8 years, I am much better than someone who has been doing it 8 years.

I seek advanced programmers who are wholesome and either believe in the Christian content or can truly get behind it.

I can teach AI, how to read/write research papers, teamwork, but my main requirement is that you have actual background in Computer Science as without that you can't really do much.

I feel that is not an unreasonable request given there are plenty of CS majors who have not caught up to AI.

The way its going to work is we brainstorm good humanitarian projects and work together to create them one at a time as a hobby for our actual SWE jobs to keep up with the market.

You will have to pay for your own AI tokens though. I have Claude/ChatGPT Max plans. We can pool them(Yes there are ways to pool subscription plans) if either one of us runs out.

LOOKING FOR MENTOR [Seeking Mentor] Recent CS Graduate Looking for Career Guidance

Hello!

I’m a recent Computer Science graduate, where I specialised in game development, looking for some guidance from someone with professional software development experience.

My background is mainly in game development, like I mentioned, with experience in C++, C#, Unity, and OpenGL. I’m currently developing my own game engine in C++.

My experience outside of game dev is with Java, .NET, and databases, and android studio.

Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit lost trying to break into the industry. I’m motivated to keep learning and improving, but I’m struggling to figure out whether I’m focusing on the right things or taking the right steps to actually improve my chances of finding work.

I’m not just looking for work in game dev. I’m looking for all kinds of work related to software engineering.

I’d really appreciate some guidance from someone who’s been in the industry for a while, whether that’s feedback on my projects and CV, advice on what skills to prioritise, or just some perspective on how to approach the job search.

Timezone: CET/CEST

Thanks for reading!

STUDY PARTNER [React] Beginner looking for a mentor/buddy to give me real coding tasks

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm just starting my journey with React. I know the basics of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, but I want to learn React by actually doing things, not just watching endless tutorials.

I'm looking for someone experienced who can act as a mentor or coding buddy. My goal is simple: You give me small tasks, challenges, or bug fixes, and I will try to solve them and share my code with you for feedback. I might be a beginner, but I'm very stubborn about solving bugs before asking for help!

I promise I'm a fast learner and I won't waste your time. I just need someone to challenge me!

A bit about me: I am a hard worker and I never give up until a problem is solved. I'm fully dedicated to learning and ready to put in the effort.

If you're open to being my mentor/buddy, drop a comment or send me a DM. Thanks! 🚀

LOOKING FOR BUDDIES Would anyone be interested in collaborating on a small, open-source antivirus project?

Hi there!

I'm interested in building a small anti virus project with other people who are interested in programming or cybersecurity. It would be a small project to learn something, experiment with malware detection, and gradually improve it over time. It's probably not going to compete with mainstream antiviruses, but it will be a fun and educational project in the long run! You don't have to be an expert to be interested, as I'm not an expert myself, and I'd be happy to collaborate with people who are interested! Also I'm planning for this project to probably be written in Python and Rust, but any C/C++ developers are also welcome!

Would anyone be interested to joining?

Hy fellows.... I am a second yr engineering student. For the past few days, I’ve been thinking about starting the freelancing. I currently have 0 knowledge in it, but I’m definitely going to approach this with discipline and consistency.....While working solo is fine to explore the domain, I really want to discuss and share thoughts with others. If anyone has knowledge in this domain or is willing to join as a partner, the door is open! Just a heads-up, this isn't a playground...And we have to start some other things too like content creation and our digital presence. If you're on the same wavelength, let's connect!......

Looking for a Serious DSA Study Partner | 3rd Year CSE | 2–3 Hours Daily on Call

Hey everyone!

I'm a 3rd-year CSE student looking for a serious and highly consistent study partner who is in a similar situation and genuinely wants to improve their skills.

Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Study together on a call for 2–3 hours daily.
  • Focus on DSA and aim to complete the major topics within 3–4 months.
  • Discuss problems, explain approaches to each other, and track daily progress.
  • Gradually explore backend development and AI engineering alongside DSA.
  • Believe in execution over planning — less talking about goals, more actually working toward them.

I'm looking for someone who is disciplined, ambitious, and serious about building a career in tech. Someone who shows up consistently, pushes themselves, and expects the same from their partner.

I don't expect you to be an expert already. I care more about your consistency, work ethic, and willingness to improve.

If you're in a similar situation and genuinely ready to put in the work, DM me with your current level, goals, and preferred study timings.

Let's stay consistent and make these next 3–4 months count.

Looking for peers to study low-level optimization & extreme performance in c / c++ with.

Got the programming basics down (variables, loops, control structures, functions) and want to understand what really happens under the hood to write ultra-performant code?

I'm a self-taught, intermediate C++ programmer looking to connect with a few like-minded peers to learn and practice low-level optimization together for:

  • Real-time interactive simulations
  • Massively parallel architectures
  • High-throughput batch processing

The problem we want to solve: Today, poor memory management or sloppy orchestration ruins performance:

  • CPU cores sitting idle waiting on locks or held back by poorly structured job schedulers
  • Processors bottlenecked by cache misses due to scattered data structures

The goal is to learn how to write code designed for the hardware (Mechanical Sympathy & Data-Oriented Design).

What we'll study and practice:

  • Low-level C / C++: Memory layouts (SoA vs AoS), alignment, custom allocators
  • Parallelism & Hardware: Efficient core utilization, work-stealing, SIMD vectorization, branch prediction
  • Tools & Performance Measurement: Learning to precisely measure execution time, pinpoint bottlenecks, and read compiler-generated code

Format:

  • Prerequisites: Know basic programming fundamentals (no need to be a C/C++ expert—curiosity and a desire to understand the hardware are enough).

I've started putting together a learning path based on books, which we can easily adjust as we go.

If you want to go from "my code works" to "my code pushes the processor to its limit," send me a DM!

LOOKING FOR BUDDIES anyone have similar project interests?

I always have a few different projects in the works, but I need to socialize, or otherwise I get bored and struggle to finish anything.

I've recently finished upgrading my server, some cheap used ebay parts. I now have a xeon E5 with 22 cores and an extra socket to add a second cpu in the future. currently has 64gb ddr4, but I'm only using 4 of the 16 memory slots, so lots of room to upgrade. loaded with disk drives and ssd's. I don't have a 10 gigabit switch yet, but it is great finally having a 10 gigabit link directly to my desktop. I run vm's for the opnsense router and whatever other servers I need. fun stuff, but gotta put it all to use now.

I'm currently finishing up making my own package manager in golang. it's called bocks, and the logo is a chicken in a box. packages are .box files which are zstd compressed tar files with a json metadata file inside. I don't have dependencies or updating working yet, but it is otherwise ready to start using it.

my plan now is to use my new package manager on my desktop and servers and inside podman containers. services and websites will run inside podman and be installed from my bocks/box packages.

in the future, I might start making my own linux distro, maybe starting with void linux as a base, using my own package manager, and make my own init system.

monitoring and logging of things can be fun, so I have a few projects in that area. one is a server and network monitoring system which uses an agent on each system to report back stats to be logged. another project I want to do is an alternative to bstats, to log some usage stats of minecraft plugins and mods. for this, I want to make a distributed network of shard servers to collect submitted data and batch submit back to a central broker server. this is probably more complicated than it needs to be, but it's a fun thing.

I'm also making my own badge service, like those images you see in readme files that say the build status or percent of code coverage. I've found svg images can't use custom fonts, so I've made a library to convert fonts into svg vector graphics, so I can use any font with it. I have this project mostly working, it was just waiting on my package manager to deploy it.

I want to make some web control panel projects for server management, and make it module, so I can add plugins to have it manage more types of services. minecraft servers being one. I would like to make this control panel in golang, but golang is kinda bad at plugin type systems. I don't want to use java for this, but... java is very much better at doing plugin systems. I'm still undecided on this, until I find a better way.

if I can regain some interest in minecraft again, I have some big plans for a backrooms server. I have the best world generation of any backrooms server, and it works with folia, hence the 22 core xeon server. last year I had something like 15 different levels working and plans for around 50 different levels in all. I also have real working arcade games that work with a vanilla client. I looked into using lucky perms, like most servers do, but it's around 130k lines of java code. that is insanity. I then made my own permissions plugin with around 300 lines of code. I'm also making my own alternative plugin to replace essentialsx. I'm undecided if I will use an existing economy plugin or make my own. I would love to see hundreds of players running around the backrooms. the world generation is extremely fast and there is no world border.

do you have any interest in any of my projects, or do you have any projects I might be interested in? I have my own forgejo server, and I use AI only for research. I am proud to say I still write every line of code myself. no AI generated code please.

[Looking for Mentor] Free Long-Term Programming Mentorship (JavaScript, Java, C)

Hey everyone!

I'm a college programming student looking for free, long-term mentorship in JavaScript, Java, or C.

I can generally understand code when reading it, but struggle to write solutions independently. I want to strengthen my fundamentals, improve my problem-solving skills, and get ahead of my coursework.

What I'm looking for:

  • Regular tutoring sessions (ideally weekly).
  • Practice problems, explanations, and code reviews.
  • Guidance on becoming an independent programmer.
  • Someone patient who's interested in ongoing mentorship.

I'm happy to have different mentors for different languages, and experienced students are welcome too!

I'm motivated, willing to practise between sessions, and genuinely want to improve. I'm not looking for someone to complete assignments.

Feel free to message me here if you're interested. I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!
