We know that conversations about immigration whether about immigrants, refugees, or people who are here without official documentation can spark a wide range of opinions. Whatever your personal views may be, everyone is a human being first, and in the United States all people have fundamental constitutional rights and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
This thread exists to share resources, information, and support for immigrants and their families living in the Chicago suburbs. Whether you’re directly affected, you have friends or loved ones who are, or you simply want to stay informed and help others, you’re welcome here.
Below you’ll find know-your-rights guidance, legal and community resources, and links to trusted organizations. Please use this space to share updates, ask questions, or contribute additional resources that may help our neighbors.
If you have questions, updates, or local referrals (legal aid, outreach groups, clinics, “know your rights” workshops) please reply below or message the mods, and we’ll integrate them into this post.
This is not legal advice. Always consult with a qualified immigration attorney when possible.

I recently got through a stressful six months of my life. Now, I can relax a bit.
I am looking for a good vegetarian or vegan restaurant in the Naperville area. I would prefer not to spend over $50 for myself.
Not looking for Thai or Indian restaurants right now. I really like sandwiches and the like. I would prefer something that caters to vegetarians and vegans instead of having one or two token salads.

I'm heading to work with a client in the Matteson area. I'll be flying in for two weeks in November. I'm looking for good restaurant and bar recommendations to unwind in the area after a hard day at work.
Looking for a place that's fairly laid-back and relaxed.

Anyone have any recos for restaurants that serve on Thanksgiving that can cater to diverse palates? My wife is a vegetarian who likes the Thanksgiving sides, just not the turkey, and we have a couple kids so I'd ideally want something kid-friendly as well.
Ideally western suburbs, but we can travel. I looked at city spots but they're all like $100 a pop and I don't think that's worth it for my family.

I’m looking to hike to a primitive campsite this weekend. Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m looking for some solitude and quiet. Are reservations required for a site like this?
I’ll be heading out from Schaumburg after work on Friday.
Thank you!

I am looking into alternative schooling options for my 3 year old daughter. She is a very sensitive child & has more separation anxiety than most kids her age. She is also likely 2E (twice exceptional) meaning she is gifted in intelligence but also neurodivergent. Likely both autistic & adhd. With all of this in mind, does anyone have any school recommendations? We are in Wheaton.
I am currently looking at:
Prairie School of DuPage
Waldorf School of DuPage
Carmel Montessori Academy
Any reviews of these schools are welcomed!
Thank you

Does anyone have a PT they like, ideally someone that is excellent at working with athletes and has successfully helped diagnose and rehab an injury?
I have a hip giving me issues. I've got a torn labrum in it which I've successfully managed for years. Not sure if my current issues are due to that, or another soft tissue injury around my hip flexor, but want some help figuring it out and getting back in action as I'm a multisport athlete.
Any recommendations would be appreciated, ideally NW suburbs but willing to drive to someome awesome.

Looking for fellow c-section moms! Had to have two uncomplicated c-sections. I want to try for a third kid next year and want to find a provider who will at least consider a VBA2C. I was seeing the group out of Elmhurst hospital but they flat out said no.
I did see Dr. Carroll in Carol Stream who said I could try for vaginal birth if I went into labor naturally.
However, my family might have to switch to HMO insurance and due to other medical needs prefer to stay in the endeavor network. Anyone have experience with a pro VBAC OB that’s in-network for Endeavor?
Thank you!!!

I wanted to share my experience with Pure Med Spa because I’m honestly upset about what happened, especially how they’ve handled it since.
I went in for masseter Botox and specifically requested 20 units per side, 40 units total. The injector just said “okay.” There was no discussion about increasing the dose, aftercare, or anything. She didn’t explain why she would recommend more or ask whether I agreed to additional units. Based on their advertised price of $9.99 per unit, I expected to pay approximately $400.
Instead, I was charged $500, and they didn’t even give me a receipt or an itemized breakdown.
I only found out afterward, after calling them three times, that she had actually administered 30 units per side. That’s an extra 10 units on EACH side, or 20 additional units without my consent.
That’s the part I’m most upset about. I told her the amount I wanted, she said “okay,” then administered a different amount without discussing it with me. I had no opportunity to ask questions or decide whether I wanted more injected into my face. If she thought a higher dose was appropriate, that should have been a conversation before the injections happened.
To me, this was an unconsensual increase in an injectable treatment, and I consider that a serious issue. Agreeing to Botox at a specific dose does not mean I agreed to whatever amount the injector decided to give me.
The follow-up has made the experience even more frustrating. I called three times and was promised callbacks from management, but those callbacks never happened. I also emailed and received no response. I’ve been trying to get an explanation, yet I’m the one who keeps having to chase them down.
Initially, I wanted the approximately $100 difference refunded. After finding out about the additional units and dealing with the lack of response, I’m requesting a full refund. I also want my itemized receipt and complete treatment records so I can see exactly what was administered and what they documented regarding consent.
I can’t reconcile the reported dose with the charge without an itemized invoice, either. All I know is what I requested, what I paid, and what they later told me over the phone.
I’m sharing this because I would have wanted to know about an experience like this before booking. The extra charge is frustrating, but having additional Botox injected without my knowledge or consent is what makes this such a big deal to me.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? Were you able to get your records or have the complaint addressed when management wasn’t responding?

If you have lived in both areas as an adult, what is the difference in day-to-day living between the north and south suburbs? I’m not interested in comparing anything to the north shore. I mean towns like Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, and Vernon Hills to Homewood, Tinley Park, and Palos Hills.

I am looking to find a 2-3 bedroom to rent with my two small, senior dogs under $2500/month. Safety is paramount. I would love to be in a neighborhood where I could walk my dogs on sidewalks and its quiet and friendly. Has community events throughout the year. I love being around parks and/or water. I would want it to be queer friendly and progressive. And a 30ish minute drive to the city. I work remotely. Im single and 40 and have a car.

Note: I know many people hate Astound. When responding to my post here, I ask to refrain from toxic ranting about how terrible they are just for the sake of venting. But if you had a bad or good experience with them drilling into your home that's what I'd like to know. Thank you.
Does Astound do anything special to provide a good weather seal or even protection from rodents biting the wiring when they drill a hole through your siding to install hybrid fiber-coax into the unit?
I live in a ranch style condo, so it's kind of like a small house.
Do they attach anything like an entry box, a wall bushing, silicone caulk?

Partner works at Rush primarily. But we have kids and would like good schools obviously. Recommendations?
Edit to add: schools are a priority and the house. We have a budget approx 2 mil with a little wiggle room. Getting to O'Hare easily is good too but not a must. I don't commute, occasionally need to go downtown. I will admit, we do tend to like more upscale stuff.
