This is Venezuelan Concha Negra, a cheese made with cow’s milk. The rind is made with coffee and black pepper. Salty, Buttery, Milky and Smoky!

Queso fresco is so underrated

Apologies if my pictures are not the most aesthetically pleasing.

Queso fresco is one of my all time favorite cheeses. Here I'm eating it with some flautas (deep fried chicken taquitos) my favorite pairing for this cheese. It's lightly salty and creamy and just compliments the flautas incredibly. There is also Cotija cheese sprinkled in there that adds a phenomenal salty umami flavor. Cheese is life.

what cheese should I try next

Lover of cheddar here looking to branch out and try more cheeses. I am looking for a semi-soft or semi-hard cheese for snacking purposes, and I prefer ones that have that "creamy" mouthfeel as opposed to being dry like a gruyere, for example.

Cheeses I have tried and my thoughts:

goat cheese (not a fan of the taste)

feta (love it but only in salads as I find it quite salty)

port salut: texture was good but the flavour tasted so processed to me and unlike a real cheese which should have complex flavours

parmesan (love the taste but don't crave it or eat it alone; tend to add a lot of it to pasta)

blue cheese (I quite enjoy the taste but just knowing there is "mold" in the cheese makes it difficult for me to enjoy it)

aged havarti (castello): probably one of my top favourites so far but I don't have any other havartis to compare this to for reference

gruyere: meh - not bad but not something i'd buy again

dubliner: literally just tastes like a less-complex parmesan

brie: like it enough to eat it but i hate the aftertaste the rind gives the cheese

Cheeses I am thinking of trying next:

bellavitano (hesitant because have heard people say it's basically parmesan and I don't want something that's too close to parm - my fridge is constantly stocked with parm already)

jarlsberg

taleggio

fontina

Advice Cooked camembert and now my whole apartment smells like toes. Can someone recommend cold Camembert recipes?

I baked it with multiple ingredients but despite the final dip being delicious I don’t think I want to deal with the smell it left again. I didn’t have the same issue with brie. Other cheeses also behave just fine when heated, so my beef… or cheese? (Lol) is with Cam

First ever time trying this cheese and we’re hooked. Our favorite pairing was with fresh fig, honey, and toasted French baguette— we also tried it on a flaxseeds cracker with some bourbon bacon jam. Scotch to wash it down. I wanted to inquire with the experts on their favorite (unconventional) pairings, or if someone even cooks with it. Thank you in advance!!

Help Does anyone know what this brand of cheese is?

r/cheese, i come to you in a time of great need. this is my favorite cheese of all time. it is an herb encrusted brie, sold by the wedge at whole foods. or at least it used to be sold by whole foods, as i cannot find a trace of it anywhere on the website. even worse, I can't find a trace of it ANYWHERE. google has given me no results. i do not think its the Fromager d Affinois, as it doesn't quite look the same. maybe im wrong though. if anyone can assist me, i will be forever in your debt. this is my all time favorite cheese and im craving it so bad that it hurts. thank you and Godspeed.

Love watching Gavin Webber. Decided to try making his Smoked Paprika Caerphilly. I think its 50/50 if this one turns out. Had to press it a little longer than the recipe suggested to get the curds to knit. Its aging now in my cheese fridge and had two weeks left to go. Will post some pictures when I cut into it. 🤞

Question One cheese.

One cheese, for the rest of your life, for every meal and every snack for the rest of time. There’s no viable alternatives, you just have to stick by one cheese forever.

I’m sure it’s been asked before but I’m asking again - if you had to choose one cheese for the rest of your life, and be as specific or vague as you prefer, what would you pick?

edit: as in, any meal you would normally eat cheese with or any time you would normally eat cheese, it can only be this cheese. You can eat other non-cheese items (though who would choose to do so)

Tips Canned Cheese 😁

Long shelf life cheese that doesn't require refrigeration. (Also canned butter) 💗 good for hiking or long term storage.

1. Tastee Cheese - canned processed jamaican cheese can be stored up to a year at room temperature.

From r/reggae_muffin "The shelf life of that cheese is an eternity. Jamaica will crumble back into the ocean before that cheese goes bad. It will be on the shelves after a nuclear apocalypse."

2. Bega canned cheese 200g is widely considered an indefinitely storable food, with some survival and emergency preparedness sources listing a practical longevity of 15+ years while remaining safe and edible.

3. German Miltary Ration Gouda 200g - 10 year shelf life life from date of manufacture.

4. Red Feather Canned Butter -

Red Feather Canned Butter is a 100% pure, grass-fed creamery butter imported from New Zealand and packed in sealed, airtight tins that require no refrigeration. Officially rated for a 2-year shelf life by the manufacturer, though the reddit community report that cans can last much longer (up to 5–10 years), with a general consensus that quality depends heavily on cool storage conditions

😄 Funny fact: Bega Canned Cheese is not available in mainstream Australian supermarkets, as it is primarily manufactured by the Bega Group as an export-only product (I'm from Australia 🥲)

*I haven't included Cougar Gold Cheese because it does say it requires refrigeration. Looks tasty though 😍

I went with the Snowdonia "Rock Star" this time. Love a cave aged cheddar. I definitely want to try Prima Donna Maturo, Deer Creek "The Stag" or "The Robin" (not pictured) next time. This local state chain has the best cheese selection in my area. Tons of other great cheeses not pictured.

Interesting cheeses that are not moldy/blue?

We are trying to explore more cheese flavors and due to health issues and preferences in the majority of our dinner group can't include any moldy/blue cheese. I am not a particularly adventurous eater but would like to add some variety beyond the very pleasant mild cheeses we have been trying. Our group varies from people who will happily eat very funky cheeses to those who will only eat very cheese so I try to have a variety. Based in the US in a semi rural area but within driving distance of a Whole Foods and some smaller, specialty grocery stores and near a lot of wineries and local businesses that cater to tourists so we have reasonable although not great access to cheeses.

Question Looking for cheese advent calendar recommendations!

Hello r/cheese. First time here, my wife loves cheese and I want to get her a cheese advent calendar for Christmas this year. Does anyone here have any recommendations? I am a cheese noob and have no clue what to be looking for. Thanks in advance!
