Announcement Important dates and resources for CUNY students

Hey everyone, as the fall semester is right around the corner I figured that I should post these links for new and current students.

The academic calendar has been posted for Fall through Spring 25-26. CUNY follows the same academic calendar meaning your days off should all be the same. You will have random days where Tuesdays follow a Monday schedule, Fridays will follow a Monday schedule, etc. Try your best to plan ahead.

https://www.cuny.edu/academics/academic-calendars/

CUNY also has resource centers to help you succeed. CUNY offers food pantries, housing assistance, emergency funds, mental health resources and other resources. Please use these resources if you need them. CUNY can help but you as students need to be proactive in seeking these resources.

https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/student-affairs/programs-services/cuny-resource-centers/

If you require accommodations, ask for them via your school's Office of Student Disability Services. Reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments may include, but are not limited to, providing the student with assistive technology or other auxiliary aides, extra time for tests or papers, access to an elevator where available, a note taker during lectures, or permission to bring a personal aide to assist the student during class.

I Don't Know What To Do Anymore

I'm a current sophomore who attends Hunter College and bio major. As I’m writing this, I’m currently skipping class. I at this point in time don’t know what to do anymore with myself. I feel like I’ve hit the lowest of lows to the point where I’m considering dropping out as an option. Almost everyone that I know of are developing in all sorts of ways. Someone I know is part of two research labs, someone else is doing volunteering at animal shelters and even at MSK. They are a full-time student and working at CVS. Another friend of mine just got into a hospital position. Some of my former classmates in high school are now doing amazing things, like being part of national research projects. I’m happy for all of them, seeing how far everyone has come since high school makes me very happy. However, I wonder about myself though. With my job plus my grandfather being sick and me struggling academically I’m not sure anymore. I feel so lost in life at this point. Since starting college, I’ve not been part of any program or internship or anything for that matter. I have no connections and don’t know what to do anymore. I feel like I’ve stop growing as a person since senior year of high school like I’ve been stagnant ever since. I just don’t know what to say or do. It has gotten to the point I left the group chat that my friends and I had. To make matters worse my grades aren't the best either. Based on my grades should I just drop out?

Question Advisement For Major Change Spring 2027

Soo I plan to change my major from Computer Science to Marketing next semester and the Business Department hasn’t answered my email that I sent last Thursday but registration for Spring 2027 begins November 2nd so I’m lost on what courses I should pick. Do I use the "What-If" on Degree Works and go from there?

Rejected from Baruch as a transfer student—what pathway should I take to study Finance at Baruch?

Hi everyone! I’m an immigrant. I completed two semesters back in my country in BBA in a top business school there. My GPA was affected by family circumstances, but those circumstances have improved, and I’m now ready to focus fully on school.
Baruch rejected my transfer application because of my GPA. My main goal is still to attend Baruch and study Finance, so I’m trying to understand the best pathway to get there. I’ve also been accepted to BMCC’s Business Management A.A.S. program and Finance at Brooklyn College.
I’m especially interested in learning about the different pathways to Baruch, including whether starting at BMCC, joining the BMCC-Baruch Business Academy, or attending Brooklyn College would give me the strongest chance of eventually transferring to Baruch.
My questions are:

  1. If I attend BMCC and earn a strong GPA, would that improve my chances of transferring to Baruch, even with my previous GPA from IBA?
  2. Should I switch from BMCC’s Business Management A.A.S. program to the Business Administration A.S. program if my goal is to study Finance at Baruch?
  3. How does the BMCC-Baruch Business Academy work, and does participating in it significantly improve the chances of transferring to Baruch?
  4. Are there specific courses, GPA requirements, or other requirements I would need to complete through BMCC before applying to Baruch?
  5. Would attending Brooklyn College and studying Finance there provide a realistic pathway to Baruch, or would BMCC be the better option for transferring?
  6. If I complete a degree at BMCC or Brooklyn College, would I apply to Baruch as a transfer student, and how would my previous IBA credits and GPA be considered?
  7. Are there any other CUNY pathways, programs, or strategies that could help me eventually transfer to Baruch for Finance?
  8. My long-term goal is to study Finance at Baruch and eventually work in investment banking. I understand that admission is not guaranteed, but I want to choose the pathway that gives me the strongest possible chance of reaching Baruch.
  9. I’d appreciate honest advice from anyone familiar with CUNY transfers, BMCC, Brooklyn College, Baruch, or the BMCC-Baruch pathway. Thank you!

The enrollment date is the 26th, which is today, but the CUNYfirst schedule builder keeps showing that I do not have access to enroll yet, and there are no restrictions showing on my notifications either.

Not grading work

What’s going on this semester? It’s like every single teacher is not grading work. I have an English teacher that hasn’t graded a single essay this entire semester. We’re on essay number 3, It’s ridiculous. And then everyone has the same excuses, but if we turned in late work, it would be an issue. Anyone else having this issue?

Can you e-permit a class you failed or dropped?

Hi all.

I'm taking a pretty difficult class currently, and I'll be honest - I don't think I'll pass.

The issue is the class is super heavy, and the professor (who I also had last semester) is less than helpful. He doesn't go over problems in class, just gives us the answer and explains it. He doesn't give us the answers to the online problems (only for practice) like before, or any practice material.

The entire class failed the first exam. The second exam is coming up soon and it's worse.

Basically, he said the first quiz was going to be on 3 chapters. Turns out it was mostly on 2 chapters only. I mainly studied the chapter that the quiz didn't have since it was the heaviest material-wise and I failed.

But now that chapter that wasn't on that quiz will be on Friday's quiz, and the issue is we went over that chapter about a month ago. In addition, there are 2 new chapters on this 2nd quiz.

So I was just looking at CUNY global search and I was thinking of e-permitting this class next semester, but IIRC my e-permit got denied last semester because I have to retake classes at my home college.

Sorry for the mini-rant, just curious if you're allowed to e-permit if you drop or fail a class?

Question Master’s in Early Childhood Education- how many classes per semester?

I applied for my master’s in early childhood education at Brooklyn College for a spring 2027 start. This program is fully online. I’m trying to map out how many classes per semester because I plan to apply for the internship certificate. I’m hoping to be able to get the internship certificate for fall 2028. That would mean I have 3 semesters to complete my 50% coursework (spring 2027, fall 2027, spring 2028). This would mean 3 classes per semester for 2 semesters, then I could drop to 2 classes for one of the semesters if I want/need. But would 3 classes be too much? I’m looking for insight from someone in the program or who has taken it before and knows how heavy the workload is. Also for context, I’m currently a sub teacher for the DOE but I am fully okay with dropping down to the minimum days required (20 days) while in school if I feel like I need more time to focus on schoolwork. I do have 3 kids but they all attend school full time and attend after school. So I have from 8 am - 5pm where I can do work uninterrupted. Would 3 classes be manageable in my situation? Or should I do 2 a semester but then I’d have to try to get an internship certificate in the middle of the school year which would be more difficult and I would rather not do.

Question hunter or queens for social sciences?

i’ve been told both of them have good social science programs among cuny schools. there’s only a 10 minute commute difference from where i’ll be staying (allegedly, but i’m going to double check when i can talk to my cousin) so i’m not really thinking abt it from a transport perspective. moreso which school is better, ik neither is perfect. my cousin goes to hunter and complains abt infrastructure/friendliness of staff a lot . i’ve heard people who go to queens say its friendlier in comparison, but idk anybody personally whos gone to really ask. that being said i’ve also seen people say queens is going down in quality lately. i’m out of state rn so i can’t rly judge the situation personally, but i did get accepted into both for the spring semester and would like some input before committing to either . thank you!

Question Hows CUNY?

hello, im a international student looking for unis to apply in the US and came across CUNY, just wanted to ask how good is there engineering programs (specifically mechanical engineering) and how good is the university in general? I dont really care for the "classical american college experience" as im not a big fan of parties and whatnot but id still like to get to meet and be friends with people so im just wondering if its hard to socialise and whatnot. I'd also like to ask if the residential dorms are any good and if they have any clubs! thanks :)

Question Brightspace/Cunyfirst not loading

Post image
8 Upvotes

Genuinely not sure if anyone asked this before or had this issue. This started happening around Tuesday, for some strange reason on my pc and laptop, I can't get past the login page. If lucky, I can enter authentication but after that, it continues the cycle of loading non stop. I was only able to get my work done in incognito.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

York clinical lab science

Hey guys Im currently a student in Queenc College a bio major to be more specific but I have interest in Yorks clinical lab science program. I just wanted to know how hard it is to get in Im aware that it says minimum 2.5gpa I plan in finishing the pre reqs when I transfer but I am fully aware that something around a 3.2 is probably the minimum you could probably get in with. I also wanted to if how important are letter of reccomendation and lab job experince mainly want to know if its a must have within the students that have gotten in. To put it simply I just want to know what I should expect when applying.

Discussion Attend Bmcc ) need intake. Any ideas?

As a student at BMCC majoring in the healthcare field, I am currently facing a serious challenge. I recently experienced a severe episode of depression, and I find it difficult to concentrate in class alongside my peers. I am considering taking an additional course outside of BMCC—perhaps in psychology or psychiatry—to better understand depression and learn strategies that might help me. I also find myself wondering how I developed depression in the first place. My mind feels like it is at a breaking point, and my headaches are too severe for me to concentrate. I am unsure whether taking another class is the right decision. Since I can pay for it myself, the class would not need to be affiliated with CUNY. Do you think this is the best choice, given that my depression is severe and I am skeptical that therapy would work for me?
