As I reported last week, I recently attempted to subscribe a basic Build-A-Plan service for my Pixel 7a. I completed the subscription process and my card was charged, but AT&T was unable to deliver the eSIM to me. Since then I've had several contacts with various parts of AT&T, each of them leaving me more frustrated than the last. I eventually decided to cancel.
The correct way to terminate a BAP account is to use their portal. But, my login is tied to the number assigned to the eSIM that I have not received. Logging in requires a 2FA code sent to that number, which I cannot receive.
I tried using the AT&T chat bot, and got connected to two different people. One told me to call the prepaid department (and gave me a number they said would help). That number connects to a robot which won't do anything without an account number, but hangs up if I give the number assigned to me, because it's the wrong department.
On my second attempt I got connected to the billing department. The agent there told me that the account was not validated and that I had to go to a store to get a QR code, then activate the line, then log in to the portal with the 2FA code and cancel there. It's a six hour drive to the nearest AT&T store. And, besides, there are several reports in this sub that the stores have no access to BAP accounts.
When I did manage to connect with a BAP specialist, and on a later call from a supervisor, I asked about getting a QR code, but both of them told me that was impossible. (But their own documentation tells me I need a QR code to activate on a Pixel 7.)
Both the BAP supervisor, and the billing agent, suggested that the problem was that I did not buy the phone from AT&T. I guess they were trying to transfer the guilt to me.
At this point, it seems that the only option at this point is to hope that their system eventually recognizes that the account is broken and cancels it on its own, but they have my credit card number, so they could conceivably continue to charge me for a service they have not provided.
Is there any point in escalating this to AT&T management ? Or does anyone have an idea about what else I could try ?
