Moderator Post / Announcement Announcing the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 PRO WiFi 8 Quad-Band Gaming Router for Pre-Orders in the US

Post image
0 Upvotes

Although it has been available or up for pre-orders in other regions, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 PRO is now available to pre-order in the US.

For those interested in the Pre-Order link, here you go:

For those unfamiliar with this router, let's go into the details. Let's first start by talking about WiFi 8.

WiFi 8 - More Speed Through Stability and Efficiency

Most everyone's first reactions to hearing that WiFi 8 and WiFi 7 have the same maximum theoretical speed is, "What? Why bother with WiFi 8?" That's right, if you weren't aware; WiFi 8 doesn't include a boost to max speed beyond 46Gbps.

However, WiFi doesn't provide your devices with the max theoretical speed, generally. WiFi performance from a router to a device depends on a lot of factors, such as the distance from the router, quality of the signal, interference from other devices, internal processing power and heat mitigation, and more. This is why your WiFi might suffer from slow performance in houses or units that have a lot building materials that block signal penetration, if you have multiple devices connected to your router across different bands, or congested channels. These issues aren't new to WiFi.

WiFi 8 is cleaning up those areas to improve performance across the board. Here are some of the ways that you'll see this benefit:

  • Up to 2x faster higher median throughput
  • Up to 2x wider IoT coverage
  • Multi-AP coordination with lower latency
  • Multi-Device boost to provide smarter spectrum in crowds

For a more detailed explanation, this is how WiFi 8 addresses practical problems that users typically encounter across different usage scenarios:

  • Higher sustained speed at mid-to long range - Most people are aware that the further devices move away from the AP, the signal gets weaker and speeds drop. WiFi 8 reduces sudden slowdowns at mid-to-long range, improving the throughput falloff rate and keeping connections more stable.
  • Connectivity for low-powered devices - Most IoT devices transmit at lower power than routers, which can result in weak return signals and frequent disconnections. WiFi 8 strengthens two-way communication, enabling low-power devices to maintain stable links.
  • Coexistence with other networks - In densely populated environments (such as apartment buildings or offices), signals from multiple routers may overlap, causing interference. WiFi 8 introduces smarter spectrum coordination and interference mitigation, keeping speeds stable.
  • Enhanced Multi-User Capacity - When multiple devices connect simultaneously, traditional WiFi often experiences congestion. WiFi 8 enhances spectrum efficiency, dynamic scheduling, throughput, and latency to ensure that bandwidth is used effectively.

ROG Rapture AI Boost - Making gaming easier with every connection

A gaming router seems like a silly thing from the outset. First, it doesn't do any gaming. Second, if you understand a little bit about networking, many of these features look like simple QoS tweaks. Third, and last, you might wonder how easy or cumbersome it is to use and configure these features. However, what makes a router an ROG gaming router is the combination of hardware, software, management, and ease of use to jump right into your online gaming experience.

The ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro handles your traffic in a lot of ways - from the connection point to the destination point:

  • Device Optimization - Automatically detects gaming devices across its LAN, WiFi, and gaming port connections, applying acceleration and optimized latency.
  • Adaptive QoE - Analyzes live network conditions and application demands to dynamically allocate bandwidth, ensuring smooth gameplay even during high-congestion, multi-tasking scenarios.
  • Bundled GTNet Service - Uses real-time latency analysis to route traffic through the fastest - not just the shortest - path to game servers, reducing congestion and helping to maintain low-latency connections.

Port Control Authority - 10G Ports, Multi-WAN, VLAN and 20G Link Aggregation

While the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro features robust software and firmware management for your wireless connections, the router also gives you exceptional speed and configuration options to handle your home network and devices:

  • Dual 10G Ports with a dedicated 10G Gaming Port - Choose to enable an ultra-high-speed 10 Gbps ethernet backhaul and/or setup the 10G LAN port as a dedicated gaming port that prioritizes gaming traffic
  • Four 2.5G LAN Ports - 3x 2.5G LAN ports and 1x 2.5G WAN/LAN ports provide plenty of bandwidth for entertainment, home studios, and ultra-fast ethernet backhaul
  • Multi-WAN with auto-WAN detection - Input support includes a 10G WAN/LAN and a 2.5G WAN/LAN port for flexible configurations
  • VLAN support to organize devices - Simplify your home network management by creating logical groups to more easily apply specific security rules and manage access
  • Up to 20G Link Aggregation - Combine two Ethernet links into one single logical link for a local network with up to 20 Gbps bandwidth

Designed for High Performance and Easy Management

ASUS routers take a holistic approach to the entire design when it comes to the hardware, software, and cooling to ensure that the router performs at its highest level at all times. ROG gaming routers take this to the next level.

Beginning with the hardware, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro features a 2.6GHz quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM, and 256MB flash memory. This ensures plenty of performance to handle multiple tasks and coordination among the many features and adaptive functions. This is all cooled by a thick aluminum top-plate along with an enhanced nanocarbon layer. The elevated stand design - combined with a specially-engineered vent and heatspreader - helps to achieve up to 35% better heat dissipation for more stable performance under sustained load. As a quad-band router, it uses multiple antennas, including eight external optimized antennas and refined RF tuning to help ensure stable connections across your entire location.

On the software-side, ROG Rapture routers contain a comprehensive configuration menu through the browser-based config or through the ASUS Router App. You can view the Client list for insights to all devices connected to the router, including bandwidth usage and WiFi signal strength to more quickly manage your network. Use the WiFi Insight screen to detect WiFi and non-WiFi interference and automatically optimize channel usage. The same screen keeps a detailed 24-hour event history so you can find when the interference occurred, what triggered it, and how your network responded.

Easily create subnetwork SSIDs with Smart Home Master and Guest Network Pro

Why settle for a single SSID when you can make multiple SSIDs with their own policies, security settings, and performance targets? If you have a variety of IoT devices, kids, gaming devices, VPN service or prefer an SSID with MLO, this router can handle it.

From the outset, it sounds so logical you might wonder why you haven't done this before:

  • Guest Network - Create a scheduled or one-time access network that creates multiple independent networks and VLAN combinations, allowing for full control over access permissions, bandwidth management, and content filtering for each network
  • Gaming Network - Connect your gaming devices like the ROG Ally series or your PC for the best connection quality and gaming experience
  • IoT Network - Create a network for all of your TVs, smart appliances, smart plugs, thermostats, IP cameras, and other common smart home devices. This isolates these devices from the rest of your network to help manage devices that are sometimes difficult to update or may have higher latency than other devices
  • VPN Network - Connect to your preferred VPN service through a dedicated subnetwork with one click.
  • Kid's Network - Configure online time and access without needing to dive into more complicated parental controls. Although you can still configure each device manually through other parental controls, simply connecting to this network automatically applies certain limitations that you set within the SSID configuration menu
  • MLO Network - This is a default network that merges multiple bands to allow compatible devices to switch between bands to prioritize important traffic, so your devices stay fast and responsive even during peak usage

Top-notch AIProtection keeps your router and connected devices safe

As with all ASUS routers, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro includes a variety of security features to protect all of your connected devices. Our upgraded AiProtection suite continuously safeguards your network and browsing experience with built-in advertisement and tracker blocking, helps to detect and block malicious sites, infected devices, and other potential vulnerabilities. You also have additional parental controls over devices and a on-tap router security assessment to identify vulnerabilities in your security settings to help prevent malicious activity or connection attempts made by infected devices.

Discussion It took ASUS three weeks after receive date to reinstall Windows

• Upvotes

I've been handling tech support for my mom, and when her brand new ASUS desktop crashed and I needed to reinstall Windows, nothing worked.

I burned through 3 USB sticks with the official Windows installation on them trying to reinstall, failed dozens of times with cloud reinstall, and spent at least a dozen hours trying to accomplish a task that should take minutes, checking everything from the seating of the CMOS battery to digging into BIOS submenus. (ASUS bios is a confusing mess that does not match the documentation.)

Finally after contacting support, I shipped the PC to ASUS with a promised 7 to 10 day turnaround after the PC was received.

ASUS received the PC on Oct. 1. After five or six updates pushing back the complete date, they finally told me it was fixed on Oct. 23. I'm still waiting for it.

Again, this was to reinstall Windows.

I have never heard of anything like this and I'm worried the PC was seriously defective from the beginning and they're sending back a unit that should be replaced. I just cannot fathom any reason why this should have been so difficult.

Can anyone shed light on this, or has anyone had a similar situation? I feel like taking so long for a simple fix is not only wrong, but there should be compensation. In all, my mom was without her computer for a month.

Discussion RGB lights turn off after uninstalling Armory Crate

• Upvotes

Hi and good evening to all.

I have installed Armory Crate just for fun but unfortunately, my pc is in fast startup boot every time I turn on the PC. I also cannot access my BIOS when startup. So, I the uninstalled Armory Crate.

When uninstall the Armory crate, my RGB lights are all lights off except for my ram sticks. So, I installed it back and the RGB lights turns on like before but I'm having the same startup problem.

I have done the some of these steps:

  1. Reinstall and uninstall Armory crate using the asus tool from the asus's website.
  2. Aura setting in BIOS also have been turned on.
  3. Full power cycle also has been done.
  4. Replug the RGB headers.
  5. My pc doesn't support the windows dynamic lighting.

My PC specs are:

AMD Ryzen 7 5700x
Asus B450-F Gaming
Kingston HyperX (8gb x2)
Cooler Master ML240L V1 240mm AIO

Please help. Thanks

This is before the uninstalling the Armory crate.
Aura is on.
RGB LED working state is on.
Onboard LED is also on.
My PC does not support dynamic lighting.

Support Anyone still using zenbook 13 UX331 ?

Hello. I’ve been using my zenbook 13 (ux331) for almost 9 years. I haven’t had any problems with it until last week when the screen started flickering.

Last week this happened once and lasted for about 10-20 mins. And today it is happening again. The external monitor is fine.

I know it’s old and it’s time to buy a new one. But I like this lightweight laptop. Is anyone still using this zenbook 13? Does your zenbook work well? If anyone has experienced similar issues and managed to fix it, I’d love to hear how you did it.

I’m a little sad. This zenbook has always been with me. I’m kind of attached to this laptop.

Sorry for my awkward English. Thanks in advance.

Support Asus ROG Strix 18 5070: USB Peripheral Issues

Recently bought a G814FP/5070(upgraded from a G713IM) and immediately noticed that it struggles to handle my USB Peripherals. Audio cuts out, mouse freezes whenever I try to charge my 8 vive trackers. Whenever I try to get on VR, I am constantly losing tracking with my headset and trackers. Gray screens and the sound of devices being turned off.

Tried updating my BIOS, any windows or Asus updates, had the power management changed to high performance, disabled USB selective suspend, yet nothing has seemed to work.

I'm currently at my wit's end.

Discussion Fix for "GameVisual may not be supported" and Panel Power Saver doing nothing after replacing an ASUS laptop screen

I replaced the screen of my ASUS TUF Dash F15 (FX517ZM) with an InfoVision M156NWF9 R4 panel (15.6" FHD 144 Hz, EDID ID IVO0621) and Armoury Crate stopped recognizing it. GameVisual showed "may not be supported", and Panel Power Saver (Devices > System Settings) could be selected but did nothing: the refresh rate never dropped to 60 Hz on battery.

**Why it happens**

ASUS identifies the panel by its EDID (manufacturer + product code). Mine was not in ASUS's lists, so:

1. ASUS Smart Display Control ignored it. It only switches Hz for panels listed in C:\ProgramData\ASUS\ASUS Smart Display Control\FRQ_Config.txt.

2. GameVisual looked for a colour profile named FX517ZM_8086_CF260621.icm, which did not exist. The log (Armoury Crate Diagnosis > AppLog) said "ICM Exist: 0 ... ICM File need re-download".

**How I fixed it**

1. Panel Power Saver: I added this line at the end of FRQ_Config.txt (open it with Notepad as administrator, format is manufacturer, product, maxHz,minHz):

CF26,0621,144,60

2. GameVisual: I copied an existing profile from C:\ProgramData\ASUS\GameVisual (for example FX517ZM_8086_E5090A07.icm) and named the copy FX517ZM_8086_CF260621.icm (and FX517ZM_10DE_CF260621.icm). I put the copies in C:\ProgramData\ASUS\GameVisual, its Backup subfolder, and C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\AsusICM.

3. Restart. Now GameVisual opens and the refresh rate switches between 144 Hz (charger) and 60 Hz (battery).

For another panel, CF26 and 0621 will be different. You can read them from the EDID, or let the script do it.

**Script that does all of this**

I wrapped it in a PowerShell script that reads your panel's EDID, adds it to the list and creates the profile, with a backup and an undo option. It has a dry-run mode that only shows what it would do:

https://github.com/DiegoCando1/Asus-auto-refresh-game-visual-panel-fix

Caveats: tested on one laptop only.

Support Asus Zenbook motherboard replacement

Hi!

My Asus Zenbook needs a new motherboard, apparently the tech guy said there was some corrosion found on it from a spill or something (very plausible) laptop is 2 years old.

He has quoted me AUD$700 for a replacement.

Is that fair or a bit steep? I know a lot about a lot of things, computers is not one of them. Any info you could give me would be great.

Im not a gamer, im a writer, mum etc so it doesnt need a whole lot of power etc.

Or do i just buy a new laptop??

Thanks xxx

Support ASUS service centers bankrupt? (EU?)

I'm trying to get my new ZenBook fixed under warranty. It has some issues with the screen. When I tried making a warranty repair claim on their site it just disappeared. Long story short, I called asus support and the technician I spoke to told me their service center just went bankrupt and they had a huge backlog of RMA's and no repair center to send them to. Has anyone heard anything about this? And is there even a point in sending in my laptop?

Also I'm based in Sweden so I have no idea if this is a regional or global thing, and sorry if I use the wrong flair..

Support Asus UX434F

Asus UX434F laptop, new December 2020. I was just working on Word on it, fan running, plugged in to power and there's a pop and it turns off - no warning. Every few seconds there's a quiet "tick tick" noise. Even unplugged it's making that "tick tick" noise.

I've opened the bottom and unplugged the battery for safety after AI recommended not attempting a power on.

I did replace the battery two years ago myself.

Hi, I am looking for an optimal OS, possibly open source ones, that would allow me use Blender (3D modelling and editing) routines.

2023 ASUS TUF-17 (FX706 HF).

I am accustomed with debian based OSes, and installed Linux hundreds of times , until a decade ago (SATA HDD and MBR partitions days). I have no clue how it goes between current OSes and nVidia GPUs , GPT partitions etc.

Any OS recommendations that worked, please?

Links to external articles too are also much welcome.

Ive a Huion Kamwas 20 ( external monitor with stylus input) which I wish to use for modelling.

I’ve got a PG32UCDP monitor (fantastic) and when I put my new Valve Steam Frame VR headset on, I noticed that a bright flashing came from the monitor…

Anyone know what this is? Infrared? I get similarly flashed when my phone tries Face ID.

Edit: I checked my monitor settings and my proximity sensor is set to off. Idk why it’s still flashing.
