Use this for discussing housing assignments. Do your best to keep discussion under each house comment. I'll leave the older threads up, but will be deleting new ones to keep everything in one place. Good luck in freshman year! You'll have a great time :)
You can find more information, as well as video walkthroughs, here.

Politely, I'm getting sick of seeing variations of the same thread every day. Here's the SparkNotes of making your freshman fall schedule:
Aim to take 12-13 hours. You're very likely moving to a new city, completely removing your safety nets you're used to (friends, parents, etc). That's okay, but give yourself the extra time to adjust. You'll likely want to spend more time hanging out with your new buds than studying for a random 2000-level psych course anyway.
If you don't know what major you want to end up with, work on general credits. things like AXLE or the Peabody core are pretty universal. If you're not sure what you want to do, start there.
For the love of God, don't take hard classes you don't need to. There is literally no reason to "retake bio as a refresher". It's a weed out class. Take your AP credits or whatever and move on.
COROLLARY: Don't take harder STEM classes because you did well in them in high school. If I had a nickel for every CS freshman who took gen chem for no reason, I'd have like a dollar. Take something easier (EES 1510, baby bio, physics). Same goes for taking harder intro calc classes. If you don't need 1300, don't take 1300.
If you want to switch to HOD after your first year, find general core classes that apply to Peabody too. You have to wait a year to switch, but the actual switch is just getting a PDF signed. Plenty of people transfer in and finish on time just fine.
Welcome to Vanderbilt, you're gonna do great things here. But please, learn to read, learn to Google, and then if you can't find answers you can ask new questions.

hi guys! i need help deciding b/t applying ed to either vanderbilt or mich ann arbor...im caught up b/t the 2 bc i want to use my ed wisely (so i need your guy's help!!! ofc, i might get some biased answers, but that's fine, pls be completely honest!). honestly, if i had the choice b/t the 2, i would pick vandy, but i also want to truly know where my application fits the best, and who better to ask than the ppl who literally go there, right? all of my info is down below and feel free to ask for anything else you might need
public health related (the specific major depends on what each school offers)
List the highest scores earned and all scores that were reported.
(note: vague on purpose + not in particular order here, but i will order it on common app tho)
psych/bio teacher: honestly idk but i would say a 7/10 bc im in the sci oly club which he runs + his other club, and i heard he writes good recs for ppl in sci oly specifically + he was happy to write a rec when i asked; hopefully its good 🙏
spanish teacher: i would say an 7.5-8/10. im rlly chill w/ her + was happy to write a rec for me; i did good in the class
english teacher: i would also say an 7-8/10. they are rlly nice and i did rlly good in their class; in both of their clubs
(note: my counselor said to send my psych teach as the first rec for every school bc its good, so maybe that's something...i sent my spanish teach second, and then for wtvr school accepted a third, i sent my english teach to those schools)
tysm for your time!!

Hey! I'm a freshman planning to move off campus next year and looking to connect with people doing the same. I'd prefer my own bedroom, but it'd be great to have people nearby to hang out, chill, and have fun with.
Feel free to DM me if you're in a similar situation!

Thinking about transferring to Vanderbilt for my sophomore year and was wondering about the transfer experience.
What it’s like, how hard it is to meet people, should I reach out to girls through insta first, thoughts on rushing there as a sophmore.
Thanks.

Hello! I’m trying to decide between taking Econometrics/Applied Econometric Methods (ECON 3035/3032) or International Finance (ECON 3610) and would appreciate some advice.
For context, I took intermediate macro before intermediate micro, and I’m doing the interdisciplinary economics major, so I’m not actually required to take econometrics (I just need a course above 3022). However, I’d like to get most of my econ requirements out of the way now so I don’t have to overload on econ courses senior year.
The main reason I’m considering ECON 3610 is that it’s literally the only upper-level econ elective that requires intermediate macro rather than intermediate micro as a prereq. I’d be taking it alongside intermediate micro next semester, which makes me a little unsure about whether that’s a good idea.
For anyone who’s taken either course, I’d really appreciate any insight into the workload/difficulty, or whether you’d recommend one over the other. Would it be worth taking econometrics even though it isn’t required for my major, or should I take advantage of the opportunity to get ECON 3610 out of the way as an upper-level elective?

I keep comparing myself to my firends at others schools and tehyre having such a better time. this school is great and has amazing resources, and i defnintly go out here, but I just don't like the people. those who i go out with are very surface level and I know i get out what I put in but it just feels like this isn't my place. I wish i went to uva (im a poc btw) because it just looks so much bigger and more fun. people here are stuck to their own bubbles and it makes making real friends so hard. pls give me advice, and im not trasnferring, i just needed to get this off my mind.

The essay only allows for 250 words. I wrote an essay about my identity and growth and a high level conclusion about being excited about continuing this growth at Vanderbilt. I don’t have much space left for specific examples of classes and clubs. How important is it to talk about Vandy specific details? Are they looking for me to demonstrate that I did my research by dropping in professor names and specific clubs?

Do I major in National Security or HOD at Vanderbilt?
I am not interested in investment banking or consulting.
I see myself doing Private Equity, Infrastructure management/business, or Tech. Although I don’t want to work in the government doing national security, I can see how the uniqueness of the Major could make me a very interesting job applicant no matter the sector—right?

Heyy, I am a prospective transfer to Vanderbilt with divorced parents. I am aware that Vanderbilt only requires financial information from the custodial parent in the application process. My mother is my custodial parent who pays all of my tuition, and her annual income is ~$100K with typical assets.
I was wondering if my situation would qualify me for the Opportunity Vanderbilt award?

I lived at Broadview from August 2025 to July 2026.
What they did
I moved out on July 22. Before that I spent ten hours deep cleaning the place, and I filmed a continuous timestamped walkthrough of the entire unit right before I handed in my keys, because I had a feeling.
A week later they hit me with a $110 charge for “Damage Charges Work Order Fees - Full Unit Cleaning.” They took my entire $100 deposit against it and billed me for the rest.
I asked for documentation. Six separate times, in writing, over a month. Specifically: the itemized statement, and the vendor invoice showing who cleaned, when, and what they cleaned. If someone actually came and cleaned my apartment, an invoice exists. It is not an unreasonable thing to ask for.
They never sent one. Not once.
What they did send was a final statement with a single line item, a blank notes field, and three blurry photos. When I asked on the phone what their documentation consisted of, the rep told me those three photos are the documentation. Then he told me the charge is final and that it does not matter what my video shows.
So to be clear: they billed me for a cleaning service, and when asked to prove a cleaning service happened, their answer is three photos of a room.
Then they explained the charge, and it is worse
On that same call I pushed one more time on the invoice. There is no invoice. There was never going to be one.
The rep told me the “Full Unit Cleaning” charge is a standard service, and that Greystar pays the vendor a flat fee per unit regardless of how much work the unit actually needs. One minute or ten hours, same fee. So there is nothing to itemize, because nothing is itemized.
Think about what that means. The $110 was not a charge for cleaning my apartment. It is a fixed turnover cost applied on the way out, and the photos were assembled afterward to justify something already headed for the statement.
It also means my ten hours of cleaning changed nothing. The charge was identical whether I scrubbed the place or left it wrecked. Worth knowing before you spend your last day in Nashville with a mop.
The rest of the year, briefly
The management treats you like you owe them for the privilege of living there and maintenance takes forever.
They do not prorate. My lease ran roughly August 12 to July 22, you cannot choose your own start or end dates, and you pay full months on both ends. So you are paying for three weeks or more that you are contractually not allowed to use.
Adding to the list:
Why I am posting
If you are signing at Broadview (Please do not, if you wish to keep your mental peace) or anywhere Greystar manages: film everything. Move-in and move-out, continuous video, before you hand over keys. Keep the original file. It costs you five minutes and it is the only thing that makes a dispute winnable.
I have filed a complaint with the Tennessee Attorney General’s Division of Consumer Affairs.
And if you have been charged a vague cleaning or damage fee at Broadview and were never shown an invoice, comment or DM me. I want to know how common this is. Given that people have been posting warnings about this place for over a year, and given that they have now told me it is a flat fee applied regardless of condition, I would bet almost everyone gets it.

Basically what the title says, can’t wear anything with the old Athletics logo and goodwill/plato’s was a bust! Don’t want to drop an arm and a leg to get a few items for a school I don’t go to! Would love any recs for in and around Nashville.

Hi,
I'm thinking about trying to transfer to Vanderbilt for Fall of 2027. I had good Stats in Highschool and currently in college. I however had a 1470 SAT and never bother to take it again. Do you think I should submit it, go test optional, or even retake it at hoping to get a better score and improving chance in getting in?

Hi all! I’m currently in the college application process, and I’m also in the running for a full scholarship to Vanderbilt. I was wondering, for students interested in entrepreneurship, law, and/or finance, would HOD or Economics be the better major? Also, how much support does Vanderbilt offer for students interested in these fields, particularly in terms of internships, networking, and career opportunities? I’d appreciate any insight!

hi everyone!
i'm a current senior and am looking into vanderbilt for premed. i've looked at some of their released 2024 data and scrolled through a couple posts. to all current premeds (or old ones), is there anything in particular i should know before i apply here?
also, my ultimate goal is to go to med school so getting a high gpa is pretty important. vanderbilt is a great school and im sure the classes itself are rigorous. with that said, how rigorous is it? can the difficulty be managed with a good amount of studying or are the classes going to make me want to rip my hair out from stress?
my other concern is the location; i've grown up in socal my whole life. do you guys have a lot of fun things to do in nashville?
please enlighten me with any other advice you would like to share! thank you!
