shoould i buy one shot packs

Hey guys i've been making beats for a little while now, but one thing i usually hear from artists is that my beats are hard but i need better sounds. I actually agree but i can't really afford fancy vsts and synths yet so do i get one shot packs that are sold online, those seam cheaper and on alot of them, the sounds there are already mixed so they'll probably sound good or is there any other way to get good one shots and vsts?

An Industry producer already has my name...

So Diego Ave basically currently has a monopoly on "Diego."

I was gonna go as my full name, "Diego" and then last name.

I could either gun for the top spot and try and make people think of me instead of him when hearing "Diego" or I could just change the name.

Was wondering what you guys think? Sure changing the name is easier but all the typical naming advice is about authenticity and I feel most authentic just using my real name. Let me know gng.

Do any of y'all use Fab filter C3 and Q4?

I use them alot but unsure how to feel about C3! Q4 is easy to use and I am happy with it but C3 despite great features just sounds so plain to me!

is it my ears or do y'all feel the same

How do you organize your beat catalog?

I've got a few hundred beats and for years my folders were a mess. Half were named "beat_final_v3 (2)" and when an artist asked for "something dark around 140" it took me forever to find the right one.

I got fed up and started building my own tool for it (BeatSorter) that reads BPM and key and lets me tag beats by vibe. It's helped, but I'm curious how other producers handle this before I go further with it:

- Do you rename files with BPM and key?

- Folders by genre, by year, by artist?

- Spreadsheets, Google Drive, something else?

- How do you keep track of what you've already sent to who?

Would love to hear systems that actually work for you.

Does anyone by chance have any experience making trap/drill/grime beats using the OP1 from teenage engineering? If so, lets talk about it!

Help with my producer name. I can't decide

A quick backstory in a nutshell:

I've been producing music for over 10 years. Now I can say that I can rap, produce beats, and mix and master. At first, it was just for myself—to practice and because I really enjoyed producing. Later, I thought to myself, ā€œOkay, I need a producer name—what should I call myself?ā€ and that’s how ā€œinsidebeatzā€ came about. Under that name, I produced for other rappers, sold beats, and later did features, etc. all of which are still online and everything was under the name ā€œinsidebeatz.ā€ Then I stopped making beats and continued with my own music. I uploaded songs, shot music videos, etc., and everyone in my circle called me ā€œinsidebeatzā€ or ā€œinside.ā€

I was known in my circle for my music. Later, there was another turning point where I thought I’d quit music because it wasn’t working out, and I’d rather produce because I enjoy it more and see myself more in that role. But now I have the problem that I’ve changed my name twice from ā€œinsidebeatzā€ to ā€œprodbyinsideā€ and now to ā€œheyinside.ā€ Now I’m back at a point where I’m thinking, ā€œWhy not go back to ā€˜insidebeatz’?ā€ There are so many feature tracks online by people I have nothing to do with anymore. I’ve produced for people I’m no longer involved with, and everywhere you look, ā€œinsidebeatzā€ is in the title or linked somehow. Now I’m feeling really unsure, but I’m drawn to the name because I’ve always been ā€œinsidebeatzā€ but there are so many ā€œinsidebeatzā€ out there now that the name would just get lost in the crowd, and from a business perspective, it’s not really worth it, is it?

And I think people always shorten the first part of the name—for example, with Metro Boomin, people say ā€œmetro,ā€ and with Zaytoven, they say ā€œzay.ā€

improving harmony

Im producing for a bit more that one year, but I am still quite struggling laying down chord foundations that sound cool but are not super basic.
Anyone other thing is, playing the foundation with instruments and not just a pad.

Anyone got tips for improvement?

Is Beatstars more lucrative than traktrain or can you make similar amounts on both platforms if you do things right?

I've been using Traktrain since February, I have it linked to my YouTube type beat channel with 4k subs so I've been decently successful with it and am currently making about 100 dollars a month on there. Now I've seen people who make like 500+ a month selilng beats but they have their beatstore on beatstars, I also recently realized that traktrain only lets u pay w paypal which some people don't like, plus traktrain is the smaller platform compared to beatstars. I basically wanted to ask if these factors severely affect the "potential revenue" you can get from traktrain compared to beatstars, or if I can stay on Traktrain and get to similar income levels as popular beatstars prods?

Should I join BeatStars Publishing if some of my beats contain uncleared samples?

I’m an independent producer and most of my beats are Memphis inspired. Some of them contain vocal samples taken from old Memphis rap songs that I haven’t cleared.

I’m thinking about joining BeatStars Publishing to collect publishing royalties, but after reading through their agreement, I noticed the clauses about sample clearance, warranties, and indemnification. I’m a bit concerned about what could happen if a rights holder makes a claim against one of my beats after I join.

I have an existing catalog of beats on BeatStars and YouTube, so I’m also wondering how joining would affect my older beats.

Would it be possible to join BeatStars Publishing and simply exclude the beats with uncleared samples, while registering only my original or properly cleared compositions? Or would having uncleared samples elsewhere in my catalog still be an issue under their agreement?

For producers who are already using BeatStars Publishing, how has your experience been? Is it worth joining, and is there anything I should be careful about before signing?

Would appreciate any advice from people who have dealt with this, especially producers who make sample heavy style beats. Thanks!

How I make horror trap beats that actually sound scary (7 steps)

Every October people ask how to make trap that's actually dark, not just a normal beat with a spooky FX on top. What works for me:

  1. Scale: Phrygian (the flat 2nd = instant dread) or a slow chromatic crawl. Natural minor sounds sad, not scary.
  2. Instruments: music box, detuned piano, church organ, bells. Keep it sparse – space is scarier than notes.
  3. 808: saturate in 2–3 gentle stages instead of one hard one. Long tails, slides. Break the scale once on the last bar.
  4. Drums: dry hard kick, snare layered with a noise burst or metal hit, sparse hats.
  5. Vox: pitch screams/whispers down an octave AND shift the formant, otherwise it just sounds slow.
  6. Texture: tape hiss or a low drone under everything, filtered.
  7. Transitions: reversed scream before the drop, impact on the 1, tape stop at the end of the hook.

Full write-up with a 15-min beat recipe: https://trapwin.com/blogs/times/how-to-make-horror-trap-beats

(Disclosure: I run TrapWin, we also put out a Halloween horror trap kit, $9 until Nov 2.)

is using loops cheating?

Been thinking about this - If you use loops, why cant you just buy 5 loops packs and then piece it together and shop the beat?

I thought the art of being a producer is actually composing music not just putting together loops!

But maybe I am wrong

How does a pub deal help a producer

Can’t I just collect my own royalties through bmi/ascap, and the mlc? They automatically handle getting u the pub royalties right? So I’m trying to understand why some producers sign publisher deals?

I've been making beats for 2 years but I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing

I've been making beats in FL Studio for about 2 years, but I still feel like I don't really know what I'm doing.

I really want to make beats in the style of Osamason, Nettspend and the underground rap scene, but I struggle with pretty much everything, especially melodies, sound selection and making everything sound good together.

Every time I start a new beat, I end up deleting everything because nothing sounds right to me. Sometimes I feel like I was making better beats before than I am now.

I watch tutorials and try to learn, but when I open FL Studio and try to make something on my own, I just get stuck.

Has anyone else been through this? How did you actually start improving and making beats you were happy with?

I'd really appreciate any advice.
