I must start by saying that I don’t personally have access to Tableau and don’t know how to use it… I am a web developer and my primary focus is web accessibility. I have a client who uses Tableau for data visualizations and they need to add a simple, WCAG-conforming link as the first element in the focus order. It needs to be reachable via keyboard and only require a single enter key click to open. Their current implementation requires three tab stops to get to the button, pressing enter three times, which announces three different messages to screen readers, and then spacebar in order to finally open the link. There’s no role defined in that tags.
I’ve read through Tableau documentation and watched videos about URL actions but without having access to the software, I can’t test anything out.
Ideally, just a simple hyperlink with descriptive link text and explicit role tags for screen readers, and first element in the focus order is what we need. If this isn’t possible, we need to figure out a different solution.
