Hi! We are making Cosmic Séance, a game about interpreting the visions of cosmic gods who don't lie, but don't speak plainly either. Featuring:

The Bloop Wasn't a Sea Monster. The Real Explanation Is Just as Fascinating.
In 1997, underwater microphones detected an extraordinarily powerful low-frequency sound across the Pacific Ocean.

The recording became known as the Bloop.
For years, people speculated about enormous unidentified creatures lurking in the deep.
But NOAA eventually connected the sound to icequakes associated with the movement and fracturing of large Antarctic ice masses. What fascinates me is something else.
The ocean can transmit sounds across enormous distances while remaining incredibly difficult to observe directly.
And when you look at actual deep-sea footage - hydrothermal vents, bioluminescent organisms, and ecosystems that survive without sunlight - reality starts to look stranger than fiction.
Which real deep-ocean discovery do you find the most unsettling?

Lists like this usually mix immediate threats, events billions of years in the future, and things that are visually dramatic but not especially dangerous.
So I tried a slightly different version.
My criterion was not “What looks the most destructive?” but:
What real astronomical event would be the most disturbing for a technological civilization or a living planet caught in the wrong place?
My list:
5. A wandering stellar-mass black hole
Not because one is known to be approaching us. The disturbing part is that an isolated black hole may emit almost no light and reveal itself mainly through gravitational effects on background stars.

The ranking is obviously subjective.
What would you remove, replace or move to number one?
Fair criticism of the visuals. They are illustrations, not observations. I used them only to represent scenarios that cannot be filmed directly, and I listed the scientific sources separately.
