Photo / Inspo Post your solarpunk setup. Here’s mine
- A solar-powered Meshtastic node providing free, off-grid text messaging to anyone in range.
2 and 3: My mini-server rack made out of an old CD organizer, with my Raspberry Pi devices stuffed inside. I self-host most of my own tech infrastructure.
- My barrel composter. Food and yard waste becomes plant food.
5 and 6: Rain barrels. I almost never use city water for my yard. Also, raspberries and grapevine.
- I upcycled an old car speaker into a Bluetooth radio rather than buy a new one.
8, 9, and 10. I replaced the entire front lawn with a pollinator habitat, hosting over 40 native species (and a couple non-natives to appease neighbors).
To me, the self-sufficiency and going-against-the-norm are what make all of this punk.
EDIT: This gallery is basically a “practicing what I preach” companion post to this one about how to start living a solarpunk lifestyle now. https://www.reddit.com/r/solarpunk/s/dNQPHnEIhe

Event / Contest Solarpunk Art Collab 2026: Disaster Preparedness, Response and Relief Results | Story Seed Library
More at: https://storyseedlibrary.org/tags/2026-collab/
The works below are a selection of illustrations created for the 2026 Solarpunk Art Collab ran by the Story Seed Library and Andrewism.
Even in the most optimistic scenarios of carbon neutrality, the XXI century will be full of climate disasters our civilization, culture and infrastructure are not prepared for. Let’s step away from clean, utopian Solarpunk worlds and roll our sleeves to face the consequences of our past.
How can a better Solarpunk world react to the coming disasters? How will our daily lives change? What new or repurposed infrastructure will keep us safe? What new traditions will we need to guide us? What stories will we tell ourselves to make sense of the world that has changed so much?
Let’s imagine more than just the rising waters: the droughts and fires, the sudden floods and pandemics, loss of infrastructure and supply chains we take for granted.
Finally, for the Disaster Relief, how can we step away from our colonial habits and imagine giving the survivors agency instead of handouts? How can we empower communities to rebuild after a catastrophe, find solace in each other and grieve those lost?
You can read more about the initiative at its event page. All of the works are available on Andrewism’s tumblr.

Ask the Sub Is a Solarpunk future void of conflict?
As far as I understood, Solarpunk intentionally is a utopia and rather hopeful. But is it void of conflict? Do things like climate crisis and counscious intelligent AI still exist (they are at least veeeery probable?)? Or can you imagine any other conflicts, like something social?
What does appropriate technology mean for you then? Technology that is advanced enough to tackle the climate crisis? Or does it just... not happen? Tech that is not killing the planet? (But what if the planet is already inevitably damaged?)

Ask the Sub Working on a semi-futuristic solarpunk setting for a myriad of projects; What are the themes, conflicts, objects and infrastructure you would expect to see?
I have a general understanding of solar punk from a couple of different sources ~ mostly on the ‘nonfiction real life application’ in an idealogical sense; But i’m curious in exploring the theories and application as it gets exaggerated through time. Climate change is inevitable, the progression of technology is inevitable, the experience of life is inevitable, and the tension between communities and ideologies is inevitable. What would you want to see from these inevitables?
we are the seeds to expanding possibility, and i’m working to create a collective imagination that holds space for everything while encouraging something beautiful, meaningful, and sustainable for all.

Ask the Sub Fire Weather - A True Story From a Hotter World by John Vaillant - anyone here read it?
I'm asking because Vaillant all but says we're going to face fires we have never faced before for decades to centuries to come due to climate change.
And I'm sitting here wondering how a solar punk community would deal with firefighting? Traditional structure, wildlands and when it's the wildlands urban interface?
Thoughts? Comments?

Event / Contest We're organising a games festival in East London next weekend about games and radical politics!
Hey Reddit! We're Games Transformed, a festival happening across three venues in East London on 31 October and 1 November.
We're bringing together people who make games, play games, organise politically, and are interested in how games can help us understand the world and imagine changing it.
There'll be 80+ board games, workshops, talks, experimental games and plenty of opportunities to actually play, make things and meet people.

We've got a packed programme put together with game designers, artists, activists and organisers, exploring everything from political organising and resistance to the systems that shape our everyday lives.
We're a small team organising this independently, and we'd love to get the word out to more people who might be interested.
You can find out more on our insta: https://www.instagram.com/gamestransformed/
Tickets are available here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/gamestransformed/2328476
Happy to answer any questions about the festival or the programme!

Project Need help with a solarpunk housing idea
Hey solarpunks - my buddy and I are working on a factory-built, stackable home concept. They're ~490SF inside, fully code compliant under Washington State modular housing laws, and small enough to fit on a trailer (on US roads). Welded steel frame construction, insulated metal panels for the envelope - they should be very efficient to build and live in. Basically souped-up container homes, but designed from the ground up to be real homes.
I threw a bunch of design info on a website if anyone wants to know more: https://www.buildhab.com/
We're both in aerospace and could use someone with structural engineering and/or architectural experience, if anyone wants to get involved. Would love any other input from the community too.
Thanks!

Article Is There Even Such a Thing as Solarpunk Self-Development?
This is the first essay in a new guide for solarpunk self-development. I distinguish my approach from “self-improvement”, which is really just conformity to neoliberal capitalism. Instead, we’re looking at how to move toward truly meaningful flourishing, becoming the kind of person who has the character and community capable of contributing to a better world.
Thank you for your time and attention :)

I'm building a SO 101 Robotic arm to help me with crafts and things like holding circuit boards while I solder but I want to make a 3d case for it that has way better aesthetics. Does anyone have links to cool art of more organic robotic arms that I can use as inspo for my 3d redesign?

News In Nigeria, Solar Panels Are the New Wedding Gift
“Solar panels, batteries that store their energy, and inverters that make the power usable, are turning up on wedding registries, alongside more traditional gifts such as bed linen and microwaves. In a country where crude oil has long shaped the economy, families are growing used to monitoring photovoltaic output — how much solar energy the panels generate — and battery-charge levels, instead of checking oil and spark plugs. In rural areas, solar mini-grids that power whole communities, not just single homes, are starting to emerge.”
…
“Six days a week, merchants and would-be buyers pack the dense grid of plazas and narrow, shop-lined streets that make up Lagos’s Alaba International Market. Moving through West Africa’s largest electronics bazaar can feel like an obstacle course: Cars, motorbikes and hand-pulled carts ferry goods from warehouses to shops and from shops onto trailers.
Generators, televisions and refrigerators have long filled the shop fronts. Now, solar panels, inverters and lithium batteries increasingly compete for space. Brands like Deye and Felicity Solar are everywhere, alongside counterfeits in copycat packaging with names like Fidelity or Facility.
“Even tomato sellers have put signs up saying they collect solar batteries and all kinds of solar waste,” said Nnamdi Nkemka, the broad-shouldered owner of CNN Global Solar. When his shop opened in 2008, it was one of a handful of specialized dealers, tucked down an alley in the belly of the market.
Now, it’s among well over 200 solar shops and sits right on the main street, with an adjoining warehouse to hold additional stock.
“Most people selling electrical items are migrating to solar,” he said.
