I recently got accepted by the following schools to start their online MS SLP programs in January :

- Maryville
- Marymount
- South College
- Faulkner
- ENMU

I have no idea which school to commit to, and I have to choose by this weekend. I would LOVE to hear any pros and cons about any of these schools. I’m hoping to do full-time grad school, and be done in roughly 18 months. Please be brutally honest about your experience haha I want to make the right choice. What is the work load like for you? If you have live classes, how often? Do you feel supported? What do you wish you knew before starting grad school in that program? Is accreditation status that big of a deal?

I’m just desperate for any advice as I make this decision.

I’ve been looking at American programs (online) and would love to get more insights! It looks like a lot of them require CSD (post bach degree) which I would prefer to not have to do

I might just need to vent. I’m in my first placement right now in a school working exclusively with kids with autism & other developmental disorders. The thing is, I did that years ago as a TA and while I loved my students I was so burnt out when I left. Finding out my placement was going to be the same population made me hesitant but I figured it’ll be different since I’m in a different role. And it is, I guess, but I hate it. I don’t know if it’s just that I don’t want to work exclusively with this population anymore or that I just don’t enjoy SLP. It’s making me regret ever going to grad school. On top of that, I feel like I’m not doing well with planning/prep because these kids are so difficult. I don’t want to do this anymore.

I was invited to attend a group interview at CSUN for their MSLP online program. Is there anyone who is currently in their program or who previously attended 1-2 years ago who could let me know what the interview process was like? What group interview questions were asked and the kind of written prompts that were given? It will be my first interview and I’m feeling anxious!

PRAXIS QUESTION: Im taking practice test/quizes on true learn, mostly on level 10... and keep scoring in the 60s high 60s rarley 70s..... should i be concerned? I hear people typically faile practice quizes on whatever material they buy??? but anyway are low scores normal? at this point im like " damn" i cant pass (A-B RANGE) anything and ive been studying my butt off

I haven’t gotten a C and have all As right now but this one class is giving me a hard time. I wanted to know if I can still make it into a competitive Cal State with a C grade if that were to happen.

Okay so I’m looking for programs and here are things about me. I will finish my media & communication degree this fall with pre law minor this fall with 2.79 GPA. I know it’s bad and really discoursing I had a really bad time in college with personal stuff so I wasn’t focused on school and never thought it would matter because I didn’t plan on doing grad school but here I am. I am competing leveling courses right now as the same time and have all A so far. So I maintain a full time student schedule, part time serving, and I work full time as an elementary special needs paraprofessional and speech service facilitator. I have volunteer experience, leadership position at my serving job, NSLS member, NSSLHA member, experience with childcare, voluntary tutoring services, and I got an internship but could not do it with my work schedule but plan to get observation experience in the coming semester (spring). I feel like I have a really strong gpa explanation, why I want to be an SLP, and personal statement. I am probably teaching at the school I work in now next year but haven’t 100% committed (I was approved for alternative pathway) so ideally I would need to do an online program.
With that being said, I would really love to get accepted to part time distance program at UofSC especially because I live in SC, a lot of teachers do it with the CREATE program so it is funded. However they require 3.0 and I’m just intimidated because I’ve heard it’s hard to get into. What are your recommendations?

I took the praxis this weekend and got a 161 (my 4th attempt). What are the chances it will be curved?

It's my first semester, and I had my midterm evaluation on Friday for clinic and my supervisor said I she had no concerns for me and that I'm doing really well. GOD, I was so relieved 😭. I was super nervous especially because I've been feeling kind of burnt out the past few weeks and it was definitely bleeding into my session planning and prep. But to know that even on my worst days my efforts are decent is honestly the best feeling. It gives me confidence that I'm learning slp in an autopilot kind of way, like it's coursing through my veins type sh*t. I feel so good.

My undergrad degree is in behavioral science with emphasis in childhood adolescence disorders. So, I’m looking at a leveling track masters program. For people who don’t have a undergrad degree in CSD. I’m applying to Baylor, Texas women’s University and Ithaca College

I’ll be honest, all of my background is in early childhood education. About eight years in total between professional private Nannying, preschool teaching, behavioral technician, Montessori teaching,
tutoring and recently I volunteered as a mentorship program for high school students. Lastly, a.m. a certified preschool teacher in the state of North Carolina. My GPA is 3.52. Am I competitive? I will say, I’m looking strictly online class.

Right now my letters are recommendation is from one of the parents who I tutor, the founder of the leadership Academy I mentor with, and one of my psychology professors. Which, makes sense because that’s what my undergrad degree

Hi all, I’m choosing between five Texas SLP master’s programs and would love to hear from current students and alumni:

• West Texas A&M (WTAMU)
• Lamar University
• UT Health San Antonio
• Texas Tech HSC
• UTEP

I’m comparing them mainly on cost and I’m trying to avoid programs that need the GRE. I’d really appreciate any firsthand experience with the following:

1. Real cost

• What did you actually pay per semester, including fees, and roughly what was the total for the whole program?
• Are there assistantships, scholarships or tuition waivers for SLP students, and how competitive are they?
• Any hidden costs, such as clinic fees, liability insurance, travel to externships, or relocating for placements?

2. What you’ve heard or experienced

• How are the faculty, the cohort culture, and the workload?
• How are clinical placements assigned? Do you get any say, and do you have to travel far?
• Anything you wish you’d known before you started, or would warn people about?

3. Thesis and research

• If you did a thesis, how much did it add to your time and workload, and was it worth it?
• Are there research opportunities for students who don’t do a thesis?

im currently scheduled to be in a specialized school for my upcoming spring placement, but have not been assigned a specific site, supervisor, etc.

i recently was offered the chance to interview for my dream placement in a pediatric medical setting. my externship coordinator knows this is my dream setting, any advice on how i should advocate to my supervisor that this is something i would much rather do than the specialized school?

I have what is now a little over two years of experience as a behavior technician. I worked at a preschool for a year and four months before then. I know that I don’t want to become a preschool teacher, and that I don’t think I want to be a behavior technician in the longterm (though most people don’t want to be a behavior technician in the longterm.) I am looking to make good money annually though I may eventually move out of California. I’ll be starting at cal state east bay next spring. I know that if I do earn a bachelors of social work I can always get a masters degree in something else, but that it of course might take more time. I am trying to be as frugal as I can be when it comes to college, especially since it is looking like next semester I won’t be able to work full time. I will have associates degrees in social and behavioral sciences, child development, and early childhood education by the time I start at CSUEB in January.

I have technically met SLP’s a few times throughout my time working (I am 21) but feel like I still don’t actually know a significant amount about the education required, what the daily responsibilities of an SLP are, etc. I have never been great at helping clients I have worked with out concerning their speech, but there is always room for growth and learning more about speech and hearing might help me naturally become better at this.

I have researched a few that are online but some of those progams don't have great reviews. Any recommendations from those who took an online masters program or are planning to?

Hi everybody I had a quick question about the different color deadlines on CSDCAS. For applications that are green and require verification BEFORE the deadline, are letters of rec also required to be verified before the deadline? Such as does CSDCAS need your letters of rec in order for it to be “verified” or are they only looking at transcripts, payments, etc. in order to be verified?

I’m so insanely stressed about grad school for one reason- money. I’m a senior in undergrad right now and I’m nearly finished with my applications but I’m having serious doubts now for financial reasons.

Ideally I would like to go to my Alma Mater for grad school. It’s a great program, I’m familiar with the faculty and department as a whole, it’s close enough to home where I could commute from my parents house, and it just makes the most sense for me. But the program will cost me about 77k (before scholarships or anything) which is an insane amount of money. They also HIGHLY discourage students to work during the program, and frankly I don’t think I would be able to balance school and work anyway. There are no other programs within commuting distance from me- and I’m very set on doing an in person program as I do not learn well online.

There are other programs I could attend and get way cheaper in state tuition, but then I would have to pay for rent, groceries, utilities, etc. In the grand scheme of things it would still be ridiculously expensive.

On top of this I have taken out about 30k in loans for undergrad I have to pay back, and I have a 17 year old car that is on its last leg and I will have to get a new one soon.

I have thought about saving money as a SLPA first and then going back to school eventually but I worry I will be navigating so many things like paying off debt, buying a new car, and trying to move out of my parents house at the same time as saving money to someday go back to school (and SLPAs aren’t paid well in my state)

I just need some guidance and I’m wondering if anyone else has been in this position :(

For background, at ASU I received so many remediation plans and finally was failed in a clinic. I dropped out and became a SLPA. I am hoping to continue working and also using my SLPA placement as an externship. I live in California. I am seeking schools that are affordable that I have a good chance of making through the program (are neurodivergent-friendly to their students).

I have to meet with my supervisor regarding concerns in the clinic and I am super nervous as to what it could possible be about. My grades are not fantastic right now because this has been a huge transition for me🫪. We also just turned in our midterm evaluations so I don’t know if it’s about that. This will be my first time meeting with a supervisor.

She also told me that I can’t meet with my client until we meet and that I will be getting assigned someone new which is confusing because I only met the client once and it was me observing second year students. I am so scared right now. I truly don’t know what to do.

i'm a current senior in college (VA resident) who went out of state for college and wants to come back home for grad school. i went into undergrad thinking i wanted to go into optometry so ive taken a lot of science classes but found myself doing poorly in a lot of them (i've had to retake some and also had some W's on my transcript). summer after my junior year i decided i want to stay in healthcare but pivot to SLP.

even tho my grades are all over the place i do have good grades in the 4 ASHA prerequisites. my senior fall (semester i'm in currently) as im finishing up my major classes i also am in two CSD classes and am doing well in them.

i also have about two years experience (> 1000 hours) working in an optometry clinic so i have a lot of hands-on patient care experience. my gpa at the moment is probably about a 3.37 but thats with my univeristy's grade forgiveness policy so my actual csdcas gpa is probably lower. i am applying to other slp post bacc programs with later deadlines and will include my fall grade transcripts in those to show them i can do well in CSD classes. however, uva deadline is dec 1st so i cant submit my application with my most recent fall grades so im worried.

Hi all. Would like some advice. I went to school during the thick of COVID-19 and unfortunately ended my bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 gpa and an unrelated communications degree. I struggled a lot with mental health issues and with going to school online while also dealing with the quarter system. Recently, I applied and was able to get into CSUSM’s post-bacc program and ended that with a 3.89 gpa and want to apply to a full masters program for Fall 2027. I’m trying to aim for schools in the OC/Southern California area and was wondering if my low gpa would be a heavy hitter in regards to schools around this area? I just recently got a job in ABA therapy and looking for advice on other things that could help strengthen my application. I’m falling into a hole and would really love some help and advice. I graduated with a BA in Psychology and Linguistics, and I’m hoping to apply to SLP programs in Canada. My cumulative GPA is around 2.96/4.3, but my grades improved quite a bit in my later semesters. I also recently took courses as an independent student and got much better grades!

Since graduating, I’ve been working two jobs with kids, shadowing SLPs who work with autistic children and adults, and have research experience, including presenting my research at an international conference.

I’m trying to figure out how realistic my options are and what I can do to strengthen my application. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been in a similar situation!

A few questions I have:

• Has anyone gotten into an SLP program with a lower cumulative GPA but stronger grades in their last few semesters?
• Has anyone taken additional university courses after graduating to improve their chances? Did it actually help?
• Are there programs that put more emphasis on your last 30/60 credits or take relevant experience into consideration?

I know SLP admissions are super competitive, so I’d really appreciate any honest advice or personal experiences! Even if you have some tough truths to share, I’m all ears lol. Thanks!!
