Recruiter rejected me from a job because they had been given a different answer to a probability question

Post image

Question was what’s the probability of a 6 sided die landing on 6 10 times in a row

They didn’t understand that both answers are the same.

Im delusional for thinking 7 interviews meant that I was atleast going to get one offer

This has been so soul crushing. I can’t believe I am failing at this despite so many interviews. Am I cooked?

  1. First round, second round - rejected

  2. First round, second round, final interview - rejected for someone ā€œmore juniorā€

  3. First round, second round which included preparing for a presentation, final round - rejected with automated email

  4. First round - ā€œstill interviewing other candidatesā€ after a month

  5. First round - ā€œwe picked someone more senior but can you freelance for us?ā€

  6. First round, second round - ā€œwe are moving forward with someone who is a better fitā€

  7. First, assessment, second round, final interview - still pending but I’ve lost complete faith at this point.

Additionally every interview feels the same. Same questions, same politeness, same compliments on my work. Even in 2024 I got hired a lot faster with way less experience. Now I have a competitive portfolio, and I get more call backs but no conversions.

It sucks that I don't have an opportunity, but that's all I ask at this point. Don't lead me through hoops.

So I interviewed recently with a company - 2 virtual rounds and one on site that consisted of a presentation and then 5 back to back 1 on 1 interviews. I took time off work and showed up in person for this. They were fast to respond to all my emails until the end of the in person interview. I emailed them this morning for an update and within 20 minutes I got a response stating that they chose not to move forward. I honestly didn’t even want this job to begin with so thought I would send them some feedback. Overthinking my response so wanted to drop it here to see what yall thought.

Editing to add that my in person interview was on 10/9 - over 2 weeks ago. I’m sorry I didn’t ā€œconvenientlyā€ leave it out!

Apparently doing everything right isn't enough anymore

• Upvotes

I need to vent.

I had an on site interview with a company a few days ago. A presentation which I had to prepare, meeting the team and some other stuff. Everything went well. It was either me or another candidate. Today I received the feedback call.

They loved my personality and based on that alone they would hire me on the spot. The presentation was really strong and I did a really good job with it. The team was heavily in favor to hire me instead the other candidate so they decided to not hire anyone and restart the process...

The only thing they weren't sure about was if I would be able to stand my ground in front of other departments (which I stated I would). That's the sole reason that they didn't choose me... I mean... There's probation time if you're unsure. So it seems in today's market you can fit the job at 99.99% and it's still not enough... I just can't anymore...

Why do I keep getting told to cold-message people on LI that I do NOT know at a company in order to get a referral?

This has come up somewhat often in this subreddit where I've seen people suggest pulling up an employee that works at a company you've applied to and cold-messaging them.

Ive legitimately have had people do that to me in the past (when I was a FTE and before this job recession) and I just straight up ignore those messages or find them spammy.

I can't imagine people just willynilly accepting those messages?? Let alone vouching for you to the hiring manager...

Has this actually worked for you or am I making a bad assumption?

The people I helped get jobs would never do the same lol

Recently, one of my close friends got a job at a large company through a referral. We met and worked at another job together, and even took the same master’s program. At the previous job we worked at together, she started in a lower position
and when it came time for promotions, I specifically asked the manager to promote her. She was the only one who got promoted on the team that year. Then, at my last job, I tried to get her a position and then she got an offer at her current company, which I told her to take.

She sent me a position at her current company, which she would’ve been the perfect referral for as she worked in HR. When I asked if I could use her, she left me on read.

Even the other day, my other close friend was hiring at her company for a position that fully matched my background. I got her a position at my last company, and she knows i’m looking for a position.

She never bothered to let me know anything about the role, until a conversation came up in-person recently in which she said she was now working with her friend. It was a very awkward conversation because not only did the role align the best with my background, but I needed it more. Her friend works 4 jobs now, while I have nothing.

If my search has taught me anything, it’s to stop helping others when they need it lmfao

Felt like I got laughed out of an interview

I interviewed for an entry level job. They SAW my resume and knew I had limited experience and still chose to interview me. Felt like I was getting laughed at the whole time for not having in depth experience they wanted.

I’ve been losing a lot of hope in getting a job post grad, but i hope everyone else is doing great. I feel that (and i’m sure many others do as well) I am more than qualified for the jobs I’m applying for, but welp… its 2026.

I just hope that everyone who reads this gets their dream job, hopefully before the end of this year šŸ™

good luck! šŸ€

First interview in 1.5 years. Ghosted.

I haven’t interviewed since I got my full time job one and a half years ago. I’m lucky and thankful to have it but the whole business is reliant on one contract and we are already in a $350k deficit each year with no plans to change it. I want to have a plan in case my job vanishes overnight.

I got an interview for a job I was really interested in and it was remote. It was a small company and I really liked the culture and product. I scheduled time, and had to reschedule once due to illness, but we quickly rescheduled and I got time on the interviewer’s calendar.

When I arrive, the interviewer was 10 minutes late. It was supposed to be a 20 minute interview and it was cut down to 5 minutes because they had to leave early. Asked a few questions and promptly got off. All in all, I thought the short conversation went well.

Two weeks went by. I followed up and asked if there was any update or feedback. No reply. It’s been about 2 months since then so I safely assume I’ve been ghosted. I am bummed out but I guess I dodged a job where their culture surrounds a huge lack of communication.

People always say it’s easier to get a job if you have a job. I truly don’t think that’s the case anymore. I am trying not to, but I worry for the day when this job goes away.

Fake jobs to get your data then they send you scam emails.

So, I'm a software developer with 20 years of experience, mostly in frontend and video game development.

I've been looking for a new job for about 10 months now, and I've seen so much weird stuff during this process that I've become extremely skeptical of pretty much every job-related email I receive.

Today, I got an email from ProcertifyHub telling me that my application for a Gameplay Engineer position at Runic Games had reached the assessment stage. Apparently, I have until October 29th to complete it.

I never applied to Runic Games. I've also never heard of ProcertifyHub, and I have absolutely no record of interacting with either of them.

Runic Games shut down in 2017.

I also found other developers reporting similar assessment invitations for exactly the same position at Runic Games, but through a different platform called Hiring Fluency.

Rejected from dream job with amazing feedback - role still open

Hi,

I applied to a large tech company a few months ago for a product role, went through the whole process up to the hiring committee.

A couple weeks ago, after waiting for about 3 weeks, I got the final rejection email.

During a feedback call with HR, they shared near perfect feedback for all stages of the process, and told me that in the end they went with another candidate only because his examples managed to better convey the impact he was having at his current company.

They also shared that, were I to apply again, they would likely let me skip part of the process since I did well and got to the very end, and that I didn’t have to wait necessarily the usual 6-12 months they suggest as a cool-off period.

Since then, I saw:

- Another guy sharing on LinkedIn that he got the position. (However it is very likely that they are/were hiring multiple people)
- The same position being posted again (as a new posting, not a repost) on LinkedIn at least a couple of times

Should I try reaching out to the recruiter?
I’ve already sent them an email last week thanking them for the opportunity and renewing my interest in the company, so I’m not sure if I should contact them again.

The potential (thought unlikely) upside is great, but I don’t want to come off as desperate or too insistent and potentially jeopardise interviews in the coming months.

Any tips? Thanks in advance

husband has been unemployed for almost a year and i’m really struggling. just need some support

I don’t really know what I’m looking for posting this, but I think I just need some support or to hear from people who have been through something similar. My husband has been unemployed since December 2025 and it’s honestly been so incredibly hard on us, especially financially. He works in product management, mostly IT related, and has experience in the automotive industry. He’s been applying to jobs constantly and has had SO many interviews, even making it to final rounds multiple times, but nothing ever seems to work out. He’s originally from India and we got married in February after being together for a long time. We had planned on getting married anyway, but decided to move things along because getting sponsorship through employment was becoming so difficult. He finally got his green card approved in May and we were really hopeful things would start getting better after that, but here we are almost in November and still nothing.

I’m a speech-language pathologist and thankfully I’ve been able to keep a consistent job, but I’ve had to switch jobs multiple times now just to find something that pays more so we can afford to live. I make decent money, but definitely not enough to comfortably support two people, and it’s really starting to take a toll on me. I feel like literally every dollar I make goes towards bills and keeping us afloat and I just have no financial stability anymore. And the thing is, I KNOW he’s trying. I see him applying, interviewing, preparing for interviews, getting his hopes up and then getting rejected over and over again. It’s heartbreaking for him too and I know that. But I’m just so exhausted. Sometimes I genuinely just sit there and cry because I don’t know how much longer we can keep doing this. I love him so much and I don’t blame him for not being able to find a job, but I also can’t help feeling frustrated with our situation. We haven’t even been married a year and I feel like we’ve already been through so much. I’m scared about our future and honestly scared about how this is going to affect our marriage if things don’t change soon.

I think what’s also really hard is that I don’t feel like I can talk about it much. I don’t want to make him feel worse because I know he’s already struggling mentally with all the rejection, and I feel like my friends and family are probably tired of hearing me complain about the same thing. So I just kind of hold everything in until I can’t anymore. I miss not having to worry about money constantly. I miss being able to buy something for myself without feeling guilty. I just want to feel like we can breathe again. Has anyone else been through this with their spouse? How did you get through it without letting it ruin your relationship? I feel terrible even saying some of this because he really is trying so hard, but I am struggling too and I just don’t know what to do anymore. I would really appreciate any advice or even just some encouragement because I’m feeling pretty hopeless right now.

ā€œWe’re moving fast with this roleā€ But no response after one week past second round interview

I’m assuming there’s a high chance this is just a rejection. I’d rather they just let me know.

I know people say to just move on but it’s hard when you have barely any other leads. 😭

What the heck is happening

• Upvotes

Im new posting here but I just had to rant, apologize in advance, for context I am 21, first generation and graduated this spring with a associates in biology. I also have my CNA license, phlebotomy licence BLS and multilingual, my career goal is to become a pediatrician, ik medical schools look at clinical experience and volunteer hours when doing decisions so I started applying to healthcare specific jobs during my spring semester knowing that the job search may take awhile. It is now the end october and its genuinely getting ridiculous. I've applied to hospitals as a Pateint care tech because they train you for specific duties if you meet the criteria which I believe I exceeded in, no response, local clinics as a medical assistant or receptionist, nothing either. As a last resort I tried applying as a CNA in a senior living facility and they told me that i need a minimum of 1 year of direct patient experience, 2 years preferred. my brother in christ i just graduated where am i supposed to get experience if my certificates are for entry level positions. I have more that 100 applications through workday and only 1 Interview offer. Is it something to do with workday? because I sometimes get rejections not even a hour later or sometimes in the middle of the night. Before you ask, yes I tailor each application depending on the skills needed and I exceeded all the minimum requirements of the position. can someone in my position give me advice?

Rant Just got rejected from a entry level job for not having enough experience again

I have been applying for jobs the whole year and finished my degree in June and I have made it to the final stage for multiple jobs but I keep getting rejected. I was supposed to have a interview on Thursday for a job at the head office of the retail company I have been working at for two years and I thought that I had a decent change of getting it as I have an understanding of how the business works as I work on the floor and my degree aligns with the job and they just called me and cancelled the interview because they said that I don't have enough experience. This is an entry level job mind you and the pay isn't that great so I don't know how they think they can get someone with experience to work for that salary in one of the most expensive cities in the world? I am so sick and tired of being rejected from entry level jobs for not having enough experience? Like how am I supposed to get experience when no one will hire me because I don't have enough experience? I am so sick and tires of working shitty retail jobs with abusive managers but I feel so stuck. Even when I make it past the first stage for applications that take me 2+ hours to complete if I do a decent job and I interview well I don't get the job.

are interviews for fake jobs still a thing?

a family member went to a job interview, and as she was wrapping things up the interviewer said "we're not looking to hire right now"

...which is why you're doing an interview?

Waiting after 7 rounds

• Upvotes

Interviews are complete and now waiting to hear something. Here is the current timeline:

September 8 - LinkedIn message from recruiter about potential job. Sent her my resume.

September 10 (Round 1) - Screening interview with the recruiter.

September 15 (Round 2) - Virtual interview with the head of HR at the company.

September 23 (Round 3) - Virtual interview with the Chief of Staff.

October 1 (Round 4) - In person interview with the COO ~ 1 hour

October 7 (Round 5) - Asked to meet the COO in person again for a coffee chat to get to know me better / cultural fit conversation. ~1 hour

October 16 (Round 6) - Asked to complete an "assessment" which was a real situation they are dealing with. I know because they mentioned the situation and something that would be handled early on. Did I get scammed for free labor thoughts?

Sent in the assessment a few days later and let them know that I needed to make a decision by mid-November. They said they would accommodate.

October 21 (Round 7) - In person interview with the CEO. ~ 1 hour

Spoke with the recruiter who initially reached the next day and said they should have a decision soon.

Now it is almost a week later and still have heard nothing. Hoping I get it, but crazy that this is how the interview process works these days.

Over 2 months to book an interview

Made redundant first week of September, and was lucky enough to start interviewing pretty much immediately.

  1. One company interviewed me in reverse (met senior leader first because of upcoming annual leave - he said he wanted the process to continue whilst he was away). The guy literally referred me for multiple jobs in the company because (I assume) he liked me. Now recruitment department have decided that they can’t give feedback until he’s back. HES ON PATERNITY LEAVE.

  2. Another company so far has taken over 2 months to decide whether I am through to the third stage interview to do a task. They’re due to book if I’m in the next two weeks. That’s great because I AM GOING ON HOLIDAY THEN.

  3. One company which I would have loved to work for asked me dumbfuck questions like ā€œwhy were you made redundant?ā€ and ā€œare you underselling yourself because you want this job?ā€ and best of all ā€œcan you do this job that you applied for?ā€. Did you read my CV?!

The list goes on.

Nightmare blunt rotation, man. I swear I can’t comprehend what a ā€œtalent acquisition managerā€ does like there’s 3 vacancies in your company.
