Used to some parts being in a bag inside of the main bag. A Ziploc is a new one though

The fact it’s in a Ziploc sandwich bag with a “Made in USA” sticker makes it so much funnier to me

Interviewing for Parts Advisor position- no experience

I’ve been invited for a Parts Advisor interview at a luxury dealership. They really emphasized customer service skills and the ability to learn, and that they welcome anybody with no automotive experience. I have a lot of transferable skills in terms of organization, learning different computer systems, working frontline positions. I also stated that I enjoy learning new things on my cover letter, which I honestly do. I also got referred, so perhaps that helped me get the interview.

I’m preparing for the interview and was wondering if anybody had any advice? I‘ve always wanted to get into the automotive industry, so I’m hoping it goes well.

Lost Sales

We have CDK Service at one store and Wiadvisors at another. Does anyone record lost sales from declined ASRs and if so how are you doing that. I’m able to pull declined services but have to click into each RO making it extremely time-consuming to run through them all. Curious if anyone else logs them with a little more efficiency?

Tekion users need your help (job recs and such)

Just recently switched dealer groups. I come from CDK, my new employer runs on tekion. Just trying to do some RO clean up over the weekend.

Is it factual that in the parts roll, if an advisor adds a job rec line, they have to be the ones that add the parts? I spent an hour on tekions help desk to be told that i will need permissions adjusted to be able to create job rec’s.

Like…a whomever smelt it dealt it type of situation?

If this is factual, is there a work around or work flow outside of this?

When husbands have their wives call the department on their behalf

It’s so bizarre. It happens at least once a week, a woman will call needing parts for her husbands vehicle (almost always a truck) and she has to ask him details when he presumably is in the same room, since I can also hear him.

All I can picture every time this happens, is the wife sitting at the table on the phone with the husband standing over them, hands in pockets, slouching slightly as the wife has to ask him questions that I ask her.

Sometimes the man sounds angry in the background and I almost feel like I should say something.

Kerridge, Pinnacle or SAP...

Been using SAP for last 7 years and before that Kerridge(Keyloop)

Now moved to Pinnacle(Pinewood), Early days but I much prefer the previous systems as it seems so long winded on things.

Thoughts on what in house system you find best?

Can someone help me cross check the weight of this PF63A oil filter ?

I got this from a wholesaler. I just want to confirm with someone who bought this from authorized dealer.

The local dealer in my area does not have this in stock so I can't compare the weight.

Thanks to anyone who can confirm.

The official GM website says it's 0.71lb.

GM Special Tools

How does your dealership handle special tool storage? Ours are "all" kept within the parts department unfortunately, hopefully to be changed in the future.

But with GM's move to Snap-On, and the change in tool number prefixes yet again we will need to undergo a large scale reorganization. It has basically continuously been put off and shoved to the back burner every time I bring it up because no one wants to have to do it. Currently everything was organized by category first (J, EN, EL, etc.) then by tool number. But now we are pretty much full with no where to go with GM- tools. It's my belief that we need to rearrange and just go by tool number only for efficiency and ease of locating.

Previous management had gone through the whole storage once before about 10 years ago, utilizing some fold up carboard "bins" for labeling and separating things. This worked for a while until you started receiving tools that need to go in the bin that is already packed and labeled to the max.

However, the space we have is in the mezzanine where it is cramped dark and dusty, pretty much the stain in our otherwise very clean department.

Curious how others who are involved in the storage of special tools are set up. What do you have for shelving, bins, and what not? Pictures if you are able would be awesome to get the idea juices flowing. I'd love to get a plan together and pitch it to management before we let to go too long without a solution.

Pictures for reference, and to display the stark contrast to our usual standard.

Thanks!

New 3157 bulbs smoke themselves

Wondering if anyone has seen this before. We're changing the tail lights on an old truck and two new Sylvania 3157's immediately started smoking internally when powered up. The bulbs still work but what the hell? They look like Christmas lights now. Old burnt out one on right.

CDK prepaid parts

Over the entire eight years our dealer has had CDK, we have avoid pre-paying for parts. This has caused some issues and our service departments and management are finally on board with prepaying for parts.

Going through the prepaid SOR screens with CDK is just a nightmare for us unpracticed folk, what are you all doing with prepaid Parts for invoices and RO’s - what is your process?

Ford dealership parts employee here. We use CDK but don’t use SDL’s, wanted to draft a proposal for my manager in favor of SDL’s. Can anyone offer some guidance?

I’m talking about premade parts kits that you can add to an RO with a code. Like if a tech is doing an oil change, you can just type some premade code like “LOF35” for lube oil filter 3.5L. But I want to make sure I don’t screw this stuff up before I propose it.

How do you guys go about this? Currently we just look up the filter, the oil, any crush washers etc. but surely you can make premade parts kits? How do you keep from getting parts wrong with the variations? Some of our models change filter type depending on the year. But the it’s the same engine. I’m trying to figure out the best way to set this up so it’s fool proof. The techs tell us how much oil they need, so quantity can be adjusted easily after it’s added. But I need to make sure I’m not giving out the wrong filters.

Is it really just a matter of me going through the maintenance specs for every single vehicle and making dozens of different codes? I was reading about how helpful SDL’s can be, but it seems like setting them up is a monolithic task.

How hard is it actually to transfer a part between dealers?

Say one dealer has a customer waiting on a backordered part, but another dealer in the same network has three sitting on the shelf. On paper, the solution seems obvious: move the part. In practice, there can be a lot between knowing the inventory exists and actually getting it where it needs to go.

Different systems, ownership of the inventory, transfer approvals, shipping logistics, or simply figuring out who at the other location needs to make it happen. For those working across dealer networks, what does the dealer-to-dealer transfer process actually look like for you?

Nissan to Ford. Any Ford PMs here?

As the title states I’ve been transferred from our groups Nissan store to our Ford store

I had 15-20 years with Nissan, 2 years as manager. We had a clean profitable department with low obsolescence, a high turn and fill rate, and were solidly heading in the right direction. Took the operation from chaos before I started to organized and efficient.

I have quite a mess I have inherited with Ford that I can get in to later but if any Ford PM’s here are willing to help me out with some pointers on ford and can answer some questions I have man I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you
