I modded my first ds lite and I’ll be honest it actually wasn’t that hard to do the only hard part was wiring the WiFi and speaker wires everything else was relatively easy! Also if anyone is curious this was a ExtremeRate shell!
I also forgot to mention I fully replaced the digitizer and top screen lenses!

I could cry, I ran into so many obstacles on the way and nearly gave up so many times. It was my first time soldering as well so it was all new.

All mods:

USBC charging

Changed green LED to purple

Added the retroglow backlight

Inserted a new battery

Combined two Extremerate shells together (gold and transparent blue).

The digitizer on my ds was broken, so I had to do a screen swap with an otherwise broken ds I had and thankfully got the touchscreen working well. This was so rewarding! The only remaining issue is the USBC port doesn't fit snuggly and is pushing up against the plastic a bit so I need to file that down.

So I tried booting up a copy of fossil fighters champions today and the day Ive been dreading has arrived it won't read nor do any of my other ds games except for one im using a 2ds and have tried 3ds games in it and they worked just fine I'm really at a loss cause these ds games are impossible to get for less than 100 dollars now it's seems especially the gen 5 pokemon games that I own Edit: apologies for the typos I corrected them I hope

After my previous post where I finally put my DS Lite back together after 10+ years of sitting in pieces, I discovered, to no great surprise, that the aftermarket battery I had in it was shot, and I'd lost the proprietary charger...

I was hesitant to go and buy yet another aftermarket battery specifically made for the console as there's just no reputable sources to buy them from. They all massively exaggerate their capacity to a comical level, and have likely been sitting on a shelf for years.

So I set out to find a generic replacement battery that would fit inside the battery compartment of the DS Lite. After measuring up the compartment and using a bit of AI help, I found that the 703048 cell will fit the best. It's a hair thicker than the stock battery, and it's not quite as wide as the compartment, but it works great!

I wanted to record shaky low-res clips with my DSi, so I forked Epicpkmn11's dsi-camera homebrew and added a recording mode.

FYI: I used claude to make this. i cant code or anything and i couldnt find anything online so yes, its ai slop but at least i can take 2000's style videos of my 2000's style car

What it does

• Video with sound: press SELECT to start or stop recording. You get 256x192 video with sound from the mic, saved as .AVI files in sd:/DCIM/VIDEO/.
• Plays as-is: the files open on a PC in VLC, with no converting needed. For an MP4 to put on your phone, there's a small Python script that uses ffmpeg. Its --scale 4 option gives crisp, chunky 1024x768 pixels.
• Frame rate: about 13-15 fps in daylight and 9-11 fps indoors. The camera sensor sets the limit, not the SD card.
• Audio stays in sync: frames are timestamped, so sound still lines up when the frame rate changes.
• Live status screen: shows fps, an audio level meter, SD write speed and free space.
• Photos still work: L/R takes photos, A swaps cameras, START exits.

Needs: a DSi (or a 3DS in DSi mode) with homebrew access, launched in DSi mode, for example from TWiLight Menu++.

Some technical notes, for anyone curious:

• The DS can't encode MP4/H.264, so it records uncompressed video. That's about 1.5 MB/s, or roughly 5 GB per hour.
• Camera frames are DMA'd into a RAM ring buffer, so capture keeps running while the SD card writes.
• On a camera this slow, the hardest part was the mic. Calico's mic driver stops for good if its FIFO overruns, and my frame processing was hogging main RAM. Giving the ARM7 RAM priority while recording, plus an auto-restart, fixed it.

I got this Pokemon DSi for free from a friend, but it does have some issues

Picture 1 and 2, it has a lot of cosmetic damage, because this originally belonged to a kid so that's understandable.

Picture 3, the top screen has some web things and I don't really know if I should open this because I don't really want to break this. It doesn't really bother me so much but I do see it from time to time. I have opened a psp before and broke the backlight connector and with the DS and it's folding design, yeah no thank you. It doesn't really bother me so much but I do see it from time to time.

Picture 4, the bottom screen has a dark spot right around the middle(I don't know if it's noticeable on camera but in real life it's really noticeable) and it's also dimmer than the top screen, but sometimes it will flicker and then the dark spot will be gone and after some time it will come back. Sometimes it's a deal breaker if the environment is really bright that I can see the top screen but not the bottom. But overall it's fine when indoors.

Picture 5, I don't know if this is normal but the charging port is looking up?? The charger does go in but with some stopping power(like how you charge your phone with your charger, that type of resistance), I'm worried that it might break off on me also it might short the crap out of it.

What do you guys think? Should I send this to a repair shop to get the charging port fixed? Because I don't really have a lot of money on me right now. But if it's really needed I would consider it of course.

Edit: I forgot to say that this DSi also doesn't click when opening it, well sometimes it does but most of the time it doesn't, but it does stay on the angle no problem. But it clicks when going to flat but when going to flat and normal, it squeaks. I think one of the hinges is broken, should I get this repaired?

I have pulled my old NDS (phat) from the attic and upon opening it, the plastic broke..
