Announcement A Clarification to Yard Sale Sundays

Hello all. We would like to add some clarifications to what is and isn't allowed on yard sale Sundays. We want to save everyone time, so please read carefully and ask any clarifying questions below so we can clear them up for everyone.

Every week on Sunday, users may post promotional content including (but not necessarily limited to):

  • Rooms to rent or sublet
  • Parking spots
  • Textbooks
  • Selling/buying tickets to a McMaster related event*
  • Help wanted
  • Requesting tutoring services
  • Club-affiliated events, fundraisers

Posts that are not permitted:

  • Advertising for products, services of any sorts, including tutoring and paid class notes
  • Self promotion of apps or websites**
  • HSR passes***
  • Non-McMaster related events or fundraisers
  • Homework services
  • Multi level marketing recruitment
  • Buying / selling course seats
  • And as always, anything illegal, against reddit ToS, or otherwise dangerous

When buying or selling, even and especially digital items, arrange to meet on campus or another safe place. Don't get scammed.

Please note all posts are subject to removal per moderator discretion. Posts are considered advertisement even if they are not direct advertisement (discord servers which offer such services on the side, free trials, etc)

Please ensure you use the correct flair when posting (Yard Sale Sundays). Any threads of a promotional nature posted other than Sunday will be removed and you will be instructed to repost when appropriate.

*Reselling for a profit is strictly prohibited

**Applications which are directly relevant to McMaster may receive exception at moderator discretion, provided they are free to use, generally helpful, and collect no personal information.

***McMasters agreement with HSR prohibits exchange of HSR vouchers. As such, we cannot condone trading as there is nothing preventing these codes from being voided at a later date.

Thank you.

Yard Sale Sundays I got tired of missing free food, so I built a site that lists every club event at Mac

Hey r/McMaster! I'm a first-year and I kept finding out about free pizza and good events after they happened, because they're buried across 300+ club Instagram accounts.

So I built https://maccushion.ca. It pulls events from club posts (and Rubric) into one calendar:

• 99 events this week, 28 with free food

• Filter by day, the time you're free, free food, or event type

• One tap to add anything to Google, Outlook, or Apple Calendar

• Flags events that might be cancelled or changed

It's free, no sign-up, no app.

It's still early, so if something's wrong or missing, there's a feedback button on every page, or just comment here. What would you want added?

I also post a weekly free food roundup on Instagram: @mac.cushioncalendar

Other workload makes learning feel miserable and unenjoyable

i just want to do a little rant, i see so many posted on here and i think that it’s telling.

in general, ive always enjoyed academia and learning new things. when i first started university (i am a second year transfer student) i had a lot of motivation and passion for it. but over time its just been miserable. i don’t find the system to be very good. it feels as though so much content is crammed in a short amount of time and that work must constantly be getting done or else you fall behind badly. is it really necessary for it to be this way? because of how rushed and how much information overload is being thrown at me i feel like i am learning less and just trying to get through the week without absorbing much information.

i know im just complaining and not offering many solutions, but i just feel miserable when i feel like it shouldn’t be this way. this year ive been missing class and assignments and its very out of character for me to do, ive always been decent at managing time and getting stuff done. but i feel no motivation. there is no passion for what im doing. and not to mention how inaccessible education is when you also have to work a job. my life just feels constantly stressful and im wondering if its even worth it. if i dont make it into grad school the only thing that my degree can accomplish is getting me a slightly above minimum wage job. so why should i even pursue it? if i just continue working at my current minimum wage job i can eventually make as much as i would if i had my bachelors. but that would not make me feel any more fulfilled. even the support that is offered at school may be good, it is just a bandaid for the flawed academic system.

again, i know im not offering any solutions and it may seem like im just complaining about my life. i just needed to get it off of my chest because i have not been feeling like myself lately. life is hard and scary right now in this world

Other I wish things werent so expensive

Rant i guess

Whenever I watch a TV show from the 2000's i always see people going shopping with their friends or spending money on clothes and going to the mall together and stuff. But nowadays everyone is either too busy (fair) or just going to the mall only if they need to or if they get a lucky break. I've never done anything like it and I wish I could but nowadays everything is so expensive ugh.

Why is it that everytime I go out I have to play my wallet like a strategy game? And I have a job and everything but I wish everything was just more relaxed like how it used to be. everyone is stressed and overburdened and it almost feels like we are all on edge.

Im sorry. Just a rant and venting my frustrations out into the world

Question Halloween costumes during midterms

• Upvotes

Genuinely would anything stop me from wearing my costume to a midterm I have on Thursday bc it ends at 9:30 and I'm going to a thing at 10 and like I don't got time to change. It would have fake blood admittedly but like would they stop me?

Social Trying to look for company

Hey I'm trying to find some girlies my age range 19-23ish. My 19th birthday is coming up and I want some friends to go out with. Unfortunately my other friends are all spread out far from eachother now due to us not being at the same college so I'm at mac alone for the most part. I'm just wanting to get some friends and maybe we could go to a bar or something. I would say things I like so even if you read this and found something similar we both like.

I like Sabrina Carpenter and Tate McRae, I do like country music as well I just don't listen as often anymore. I like living in my own fantasy world that all wild animals are my friends and I will try to pet them. I really like stereotypical girl nights like doing face masks and watching movies. I do like brunch as well and going to Starbucks. I have a bad case of RBF and apparently sound sarcastic even when I'm being completely serious, so please don't let that scare you off. Don't be shy to send me a message, I'm not on here enough so feel free to grab my socials I use them a bit more

Academics Orgo Test 1

Hey guys, so a lot of people are shiiting on me for the mark I got on the test (97), which I understand why, but I thought since a lot of people are asking what I did for test 1, I would come here and explain how I studied for it. So, for reference, I am in the C02 lecture, so not much I can really say about the in-person things Chibba is doing, but anyways, when it came to taking notes, I primarily didn't even take notes on the slides; rather, I would take notes of what Chibba said about the slide - feel free to pm me if you would like to see my notes; I really don't mind sharing, welp other than that I used the slides only when there was an example shown or say if there was a reaction(like the ARIO exception) that would be the only thing I copy of the slides.

When it came to doing practice and such, I first started off with the Term Bank to get a sense of what I needed to work on. Once that was completed, I figured out I needed some practice on Acids and Bases, so I went back and redid the question bank for it. I feel like redoing the question bank does help a lot, as long as you're not cheating it and just chatgpting it when you don't understand a question (sit there and genuinely think - I understand how this may sound so stupid; just trust me, some magical shit happens when you think). Now, based on the lack of concepts I had, I created a "cheat sheet" - PM ME IF YOU ALSO WANNA SEE THIS LOL

Anyways, now that I felt like I had a solid understanding of how to answer questions, I did the practice tests. I first started off with the ones that were posted on Avenue. Once I completed those, I moved onto the ones that were on the HealthSci drive. These were really useful cause they actually taught me a couple of things, there was this really hard test, imo, and that taught me the most i'm prettu sure it was 2020 or 2021 don't remember too much.

After all of the tests were done, there were actually some questions pre-2020 that were really hard, so I did those to kinda solidify any concepts I had my doubts about (acids and bases kms)

ALSO I RECOMMEND HEAVILY DO NOT SKIP OUT ON TEXTBOOK QUESTIONS; THEY ARE USEFUL I PROMISE. Once every module was completed for the week, the first thing i would do is the textbook questions; they help a lot when it comes to just starting off before you go onto the question bank.

If you guys have any specific questions regarding how I approached the questions on the test, please feel free to message I will deadass answer anything I am not the type of person to gatekeep (I hate toxic premeds). I really want everyone to succeed, I swear, and I know everyone on the next test finna pop off, guaranteed.

Question what are the reasonsyou guys have to stay so focused and locked in

I feel like almost everyone at McMaster has an ambitious drive for different reasons, but I've currently lost all my motivation so it's become rlly hard to lock in, focus, and do my best. Like of course I can force myself, (and I do) but it feels like an endless story when I do so. Idk how to explain. So I'm curious what keeps the rest of you ambitious and focused... what are your reasons?

Social Motivated friends in 1st yr

Anyone wanna be friends and form a study group that hold each other accountable? We could go to the gym too periodically and have study sessions after classes end in libraries or other study spots!

We could go out to westdale or toronto and explore together, I’m down for everything except clubbing. We could explore and play sports in the gym like badminton and go rock climbing occasionally, get food together etc.

lowkey just want a group of friends that actually go out and do stuff! Playing video games would be chill too!

Im in life sci nd i take english and psych too but programs wont rlly matter we could study individually together and test eachother nevertheless!

If any girls wanna and struggle to have friends that do this dm me! :)

Courses LIFESCI 4DD3 vs 4P03 2027 Winter

I’m trying to decide between LIFESCI 4DD3 and 4P03 for Winter 2027. Has anyone taken either of these courses and can share what they’re actually like?

I REALLY hate presentations and having to talk/interact with people in class lol. I’d much rather do essays, papers, and written assignments, even if the prof marks really hard.

For either course, how much presenting or class discussion do you actually have to do? Are there group presentations or participation marks? And is either one mostly written assignments?

I don’t mind strict marking at all, I just really want to avoid presentations and having to speak in front of people 😭

Would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve taken these courses. Thanks!!

Academics SOCIOL 2GG3 - Midterm

I am genuinely so cooked for the midterm tomorrow. I don’t even know what to study, like there was hardly any guidance on what to study. All I was told was key terms, concepts, how they connect education, and we’re not even allowed to cheat sheet, or at least just like cheat words for a short answer essay style exam, or we should’ve just like got a study guide that is telling us what to study. I’ve never been so nervous for an exam my entire life, and I actually like the course, and I like the content, but I’m so scared.

Other should i quit or does it get better Spoiler

what's the point

i'm not trying to be negative or anything but things have gradually worsened at home for a mix of reasons (living w mentally unwell sibling & other problems that are separate from that). i can't keep home off my mind and it doesn't go away when i remove myself from it. apart from that, i can't keep any of my friends. i know i'm boring and i'll admit i somewhat gave up texting first after trying for a while in the summer because it's been hard for me to do things (but i feel like i'm a bother because they all have their own friends and they would likely talk to me if they wanted to) and it's been crickets since; unless i can help with something school related (which i like doing so i don't know if it's worth mentioning).

my goal is to do the lsat, finish undergrad, and hopefully make it into law school but if my mental health continues to decline it may be unrealistic. i really am interested in polsci & law and enjoy studying but i've been slacking off because i physically and mentally cannot get myself to do anything, even things i like to do. i'm becoming a lazy loser. i'm currently going to the swc but the appointments are so far apart and i'm not sure how therapy is supposed to make it better. i feel like an alien compared to other girls my age but i can't pinpoint what exactly makes me like that. i just want to disappear.

this is so embarassing for me to post because i prefer to hide my problems and have nobody worry about them but does anyone know if it gets better? i've been told not to quit school by someone i know but i feel like i'm going to fail everything even though last year my gpa wasn't that bad.

sorry if this is stupid.

Question msaf type B

do i have to be sick or provide an explanation or documentation for an MSAF type B? If i have multiple assignments to complete and i wanted to reduce my workload by using type B (since it’s over 25%) would this be fine?
