Starting Sunday morning, the highest tides of the year roll into LA County beaches, and Monday through Wednesday could top a record that has stood since 2005. The Peninsula, Naples and Belmont Shore are among the spots to watch, and coastal trains south of Laguna Niguel are pausing all week. We've got the tide times, what could flood, and what to do before the storm that's lining up behind it.

A one-time 5% tax on the net worth of about 200 billionaires is on every California ballot, with most of the money earmarked for health care. Tax attorneys are already mapping out the lawsuits, from a residency date set before the vote to how you value a company with no stock price, while the measure's drafters say courts have rejected those arguments again and again. We lay out what it would raise, who's for and against it, and what your vote means.

Lots of really great prizes and giveaways this time! Costume contest is at NOON.

Every City of LA voter gets a say on whether fire-damaged Palisades properties should be exempt from Measure ULA, the tax that funds affordable housing and renter aid. Supporters call it basic fairness for people who lost everything; the lone council critic calls it a loophole for the ultra-wealthy. We break down who qualifies, what it could cost housing programs, and what your vote means.

The rain is only half of it tonight. The Peninsula is going into this storm already battered, and the next two high tides land right around the heaviest rain. We put the tide times, where to get sand and bags across the city, and what's happening up the coast at Point Dume all in one place.

Rain arrives Wednesday and the heaviest round is forecast for Wednesday night, with some foothill spots possibly getting two to three inches. We broke down the downtown forecast from Wednesday through Thursday night, what the county's burn-scar outlook actually means, and every free sandbag spot we could find, from Altadena to Malibu to Pasadena. Grab your bags before the rain picks up.

We're builders in Los Angeles, with projects in the Pacific Palisades. Government bureaucracy is at fault here. If you can get the costal coastal commission behind what I'm going to suggest, then there is really opportunity for a win-win. The city should incentivize owners/builders to build back residences and projects on the beachfronts under one MAJOR caveat - they would be required to build retaining walls or prescriptive engineered shoring options; the houses would have to be build out of ICF or concrete (we're doing one house out of ICF now). The city create a program similar to EO1 /EO7, fast racking these types of projects. This would save PCH, remove the burden from public tax dollars, and the private sector of investors /developers/ homeowners would pick up the tab. A program like this would increase the value of those lots tremendously, increase property tax dollars significantly.
Or we just continue to remain reactive to what comes , throw tax dollars at it and ask for more money.
I'd welcome civil discussion here. IF someone has a strong opposing view, I'd love to hear it. I don't need to be right about this, I just don't see another cost-effective way of getting the problem solved.

As of 7 a.m. Friday, Southern California Edison's public safety power shutoffs affected 34,946 customers in L.A. County and 34,800 in Ventura County, including parts of Malibu and Calabasas. A Red Flag Warning runs through 8 p.m. Saturday. Those numbers are changing through the day, so check Edison's outage page for your address.

Malibu consolidating its position as the unfriendliest city in California. Parking enforcement and volunteers now patrolling private parking lots to issue tickets for missing front plates. Malibu doesn't want visitors -- help them get their wish by not going and not patronizing their businesses. Oppose allocation of state funding for their recovery and development and let them tax their own residents.

I want you to know you made my day. I was actually so taken aback there were so many things that I wanted to say to you. You're a beautiful woman and if you keep doing what you're doing you will look amazing when you're 68 as well. Be yourself, be kind, have gratitude and it'll shine through in however you decide to wear your hair or dress and move! Thank you again for making my day!

Iβm biking some canyons in Malibu and wanted to take a stop by Point Dume for the views! Itβs been a while since Iβve been, I donβt recall seeing cyclists. I know thereβs a bunch of steps that lead down to the water but I donβt wanna lug my bike around. I wanted to walk around the nature preserve path and also check out the beach and chill for a bit before continuing my route.
Any place I could lock/park my bike? Or should I bike back to my car and drive over?
