[Free to Read] Why do the Blackhawks have the league’s worst power play?
Connor Bedard did whatever he wanted on the power play when he was playing with the Regina Pats in the WHL. He was anywhere and everywhere. He took care of entries. When he asked for the puck in the offensive zone, he got the puck. His teammates knew they’d get it back if he saw fit. It was his show, and it was a successful one; he produced 45 points, including 16 goals and 29 assists, on the power play in his final season in Regina.
That was never going to be the same in the NHL. Bedard has had to adjust in the NHL, from five-on-five to the power play, and has shown in his three-plus seasons he can figure out the NHL in a lot of ways. The power play appeared to be one of those areas two seasons ago. His 8.1 points per 60 minutes ranked 13th in the league. The Blackhawks had the seventh-best power play in the league that season, when Bedard was mostly on the power play with Seth Jones, Tyler Bertuzzi, Teuvo Teräväinen and Ryan Donato.
Bedard and the Blackhawks have trended in the other direction over the last two seasons. Bedard dropped to 5.23 points per 60 and the Blackhawks were 29th last season with a 16.9 percent success rate. In 11 games this season, Bedard is at 4.78 points per 60 and the Blackhawks have the league’s worst power play at 8.3 percent. (Bedard did miss the Blackhawks’ first six games due to injury.)
The Blackhawks’ power play woes were especially notable in their last two games, a 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens and a 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers. The Blackhawks didn’t score on five power plays against the Canadiens and squandered seven power plays, including 1:28 of five-on-three time, against the Panthers. Both games were there for the Blackhawks’ taking, and both times their power play was a major reason for the loss.
Before we dive into the power play further, it is worth noting the Blackhawks have been without defenseman Bowen Byram, their power-play quarterback, for the last four games due to injury. He has also only played one game with Bedard, and in that one game, the power play scored on one of two chances against the Pittsburgh Penguins. What was different in the game, especially compared to the last two, was how quickly the puck moved and how often Bedard got the puck. On the opening power play, Byram passed it twice from the top of their power-play umbrella to Bedard on the left wing. Bedard struck a one-timer the first time. On the second time, Bedard quickly passed to Roman Kantserov in the bumper and Kantserov scored on a one-timer. The Blackhawks had their share of chances on the second power play of the game, too. So it is possible Byram’s return will be the magic cure for the Blackhawks’ power play. Time will tell.

This team as of right now is going nowhere
Before I get a angry mob lol listen, this year we were supposed to see growth like Actual growth this year Bedard Kane All these guys bringing in Bowen byram and hopefully seeing Blash actually coach his ass off I wasn’t gonna expect playoffs but I at would’ve loved to see competent hockey and being competitive this season
Fast forward to right now we’re 3-8 (If I’m right) probably going to be 3-9 tmr because our coach has became the ghost of Matt Eberflus and is constantly being a lame duck out there every night in a weekly basis meanwhile our GM is just sitting around making moves (The wrong ones or too much overpays) and prospect hugging when this is the time to strike the window and actually build our team with competent Experince and the few good young bucks we have Kantserov, Frondell, Bedard, Kaiser, Levshunov
I think this team will eventually find the light and join the bulls Sox’s cubs and Bears in being relevant someday but let’s be frank if they can’t turn this around soon and Blash gets fired can Kyle get it right? Or is Danny gonna have to be looking for a GM again after next season?

Where does Blashes lifeline end?
First and foremost. The entire bench team probably needs to be wiped as well Davidson but the reality is, they aren't going to fire their GM 10 games into the season. Davidson seat is safe for the season and they won't be able to replace an entire coaching staff right now.
It's Blash, it has to be Blash.
There’s a part of me that almost hopes we drop the next four games just to force the issue with Blashill. Every win feels like it buys him a little more forgiveness from management — like a mini-extension. I’m worried that if we string a couple wins together, they’ll point to those results and decide the ship is turning and we don’t need a change.
I really thought the decision would be made by game 10. Either we’re competing or we make the move. Instead we’re sitting at 3-8 and it still feels like they’re waiting for some magical turnaround. If they drag this past 15 games, the season is basically chalked.
A new coach needs time to install systems and actually get the team running them. By the time that happens we could easily be 25-30 games in, trying to claw our way back to .500 with a young, inexperienced roster. That’s a mountain this group isn’t built to climb with only 50 games left.

Every shift Ep 1
new every shift episode is up.
its funny you can watch the light leave from their eyes and their interviews.
I’m also absolutely amazed how they make these games look decent when we get our ass kicked

First game making a seat decision 319 vs 210?
Hey everyone, y’all were pretty helpful when I asked about a month ago on seating and now I’m ready to buy some tickets. And I’ve decided either between a low row 319 section or low row 210 section.
I’ve decided to catch the Maple Leafs vs Blackhawks and I’m pretty excited to see Kane and Bedard(hopefully he stays healthy). I’m just conflicted it’s a little less than $40 difference between the two sections $84 vs $122. And people say the 200s is just overall nicer but a better fan/crowd experience and view from the 300s plus this is centered whereas the 200s is near an endzone section.
This is my first hockey game ever and I’m really conflicted on which option I should go with here. If it was you what would you do? For $40 it feels like I should just do the 200s but I’m worried I might now see the court as well since it’s an endzone section.
Thanks for all your help and I will
Be there early like a lot of you suggested!
EDIT: after some realization that the Hawks will be on the other side twice I decided to splurge a little and go section 233 Row 3.

So Who’s Going to Be The Next Coach?
In my head, Blashill is already gone. I need that to be my headcanon for my own mental health.
Now that his firing is settled, who takes the reins? Tortorella could light a fire under the players’ butts, but I don’t think his system works with these players. He needs a bunch of big, physical guys for his dump and chase game to work.
Woodcroft? Might not be a bad option, he has experience figuring out how to win with a superstar player. Plus his system is highly structured which it seems like these kids need.
McLellan? One of our biggest problem is getting through center ice and into the offensive zone, which he’s always been good at.
Who are the other options out there?

Reason to believe in Kyle Davidson?
Other than it being early in the season, is there any reason to believe in the midst of year #5 that Davidson is the right GM for this franchise moving forward?

SIRT The /r/Hawks Weekly STOP IT RIGHT THERE! Thread - October 26, 2026
Wow, look at the time fly! It's already time for another weekly installment of STOP IT RIGHT THERE!
You know what to do...post up all the stuff you've saved up knowing it would get deleted from the front page of /r/hawks by the crypto-anarcho-fascist mods.
Memes, gear/jersey pics, poems you've penned professing your love for Lord Hossa (The One True King), or links to article about some oddball couple in Manitoba who named their kid Duncan Seabrook. Whatever. We don't give a shit.
The only rule here is to be excellent to each other. Civility matters.
Now get to it!!
LET'S GO HAWKS!!!

Edvinsson & Larkin Trade
Assuming we would ever be put on Larkin’s trade list, what would we give up to get these two? We would cover the biggest holes on the team. Elite stay-at-home defenseman and a center who consistently wins face-offs. We need to win our defensive zone draws since that traps us way too much and especially huge on a penalty kill. Also maybe our power play would be slightly better if we didn’t always start by losing a face-off and a team icing and killing 30 sec automatically.
As much as I would hate to give up some of these players but: Nazar, Levshunov or Rinzel, and two 1st

So sick of watching a terrible team..
I am so sick of watching this sorry ass team.. I legit feel bad for Bedard at this point. He shows up and brings it every game and nobody else seems to care to follow. Nobody should be fooled, this team as it’s constructed is NOT winning anything anytime soon. Just awful.
I feel bad for everyone paying to see this team.
As a fan living in AZ I feel horrible for everyone paying for tickets to watch the dumpster fire of a team(I know the pain from paying to see coyotes games). Hopefully ownership is seeing the empty seats before people start wearing bags lol.
