Show and Tell Built a small Excel add-in for sending charts into PowerPoint—keen to hear what people think
I do a lot of Excel-to-PowerPoint work and find myself repeating the same steps when putting presentations together. I use Macabacus at work and find it useful, but wanted to try building something around the few things I do most often.
So I’ve started building a small Excel add-in called Chartly. Currently it lets you send a chart into PowerPoint, keeps it editable using the PowerPoint destination theme, and fits it into a selected text box. You can then refresh it from Excel as the numbers change and break the link once you’re done.
It’s built with VBA and has three buttons in the Excel ribbon: Send Chart, Refresh All and Break Links. Windows only for now, and just charts—no tables yet.
I’d also like to make some of the formatting easier. I have quite specific preferences for how my charts should look, and would find it useful to apply those without clicking through the same menus each time. But keen to hear what other people actually spend time doing before building more.
How do you currently handle this? What are the steps you find yourself repeating most often?
It’s a free beta if anyone would like to try it. There’s a short demo and signup form here—would appreciate honest feedback: https://tally.so/r/4aajPY
