Is 20 minutes of editing per minute of content a realistic pace in my case?

Please read in full before commenting!

I'm working on a multi-hour video-essay and have prepared most of the resources I'll need (apart from recording the voiceover and some info-related footage).

The video won't feature my face or a lot of live footage, as it will mostly be relevant screenshots, text and some infographics. Most of the text is also already prepared. Any visual and sound effects used will be simple. I intend to clean up most of the voiceover before editing so assume it needs minimal adjustment.

With that in mind, is 20 minutes of editing per minute of video a realistic pace to keep? If not, how long should I expect it to take?

I made a free video editor for Windows. No watermark, no subscription, exports on your own PC.

Hey all, I’m the dev of CutShit, a desktop video editor for Windows. I built it because every “free” editor I tried either watermarked exports, locked basic features behind a subscription, or wanted my footage uploaded to its cloud.

What it does:

  • Real local export: ffmpeg renders on your machine. No watermark, no credits, no upload.
  • Normal timeline editing: split (S), ripple delete, markers, and a command palette (Ctrl+K).
  • Panels for text, captions, transcripts, effects, transitions, filters, color grading, a brand kit and voice-over.
  • Import from your PC, Google Drive, Dropbox or a video link.
  • Optional AI auto-edit and Ask AI that run locally through Ollama, so nothing gets sent to a cloud model.
  • Live Studio: scenes and sources (it can import your OBS scene collections), an audio mixer, and multistreaming to Twitch, YouTube, Kick, X or a custom server at the same time.

It’s completely free. It’s Windows only for now, sorry Mac folks.

To get it, search “CutShit” in the Microsoft Store.

It’s still early, so I’d really like to hear what’s broken, what’s confusing, or what you’d need before switching from what you use now. I’ll be in the comments.

  • Experience: Proven track record with a strong portfolio showing high retention, clean audio design, and strong visual pacing.
  • Reliability: Strict adherence to deadlines, proactive communication, and ability to accept structured feedback.

What You Get

  • Continuous, steady stream of client work (no chasing clients on your own).
  • Competitive per-video or monthly retainer payouts based on skill and speed.
  • Long-term growth opportunities into lead editor / post-production manager roles.

Are there any actually good budget editing computers?

I've been looking at buying a computer to edit my videos on for a while now and from my understanding, the specs I need would be 32gb RAM, 1TB SSD, and 16VRAM aka 5080 RTX. If that is the case, I can only find laptops for over $3000. I'm not opposed to PCs but I know absolutely nothing about them. I am extremely averse to anything Apple product, but if that's how I have to go that's fine unless its too expensive. I am starting to make short films with a sony fx30, so it's pretty tanky edits on Premiere Pro. Any advice on a good computer to buy that's like $2500 at most? Thanks!

I’m a video editor and I built 6 Premiere Pro plugins to stop doing the boring parts by hand. Would love honest feedback.

Hey everyone LINK,

I’m Shreyash, a video editor from Pune, India. For years I kept losing hours on the same slow tasks: rotoscoping in After Effects, keyframing captions word by word, building speed ramps, and switching cameras on podcast edits.

So I built my own tools. They all run inside Premiere Pro, on your own computer, with no internet needed:

  • RotoCut: paint over a person once and it cuts them out across every frame (like Roto Brush, but inside Premiere). Needs an NVIDIA GPU.
  • WordPop: turns your SRT or Premiere captions into animated word-by-word captions. 29 styles, including a new “Side Split” style that puts words on both sides of the speaker.
  • Velocity: one-click speed ramps you can still edit later.
  • PodSwitch: switches between 2–4 podcast cameras automatically based on who’s talking.
  • Tidy: cleans up a messy project in one click (sorted bins, unused clips collected).
  • Pinpoint: tracks anything that moves and pins text, emoji or a logo to it.

No subscription. You pay once and keep it. Every tool has a free trial with small limits, so you can test it on your own footage first.

They launch on 2 November. Windows versions are ready; Mac versions are in final testing.

I’m a solo maker, so I’d really value your feedback:

  • Which of these would you actually use?
  • What’s the most annoying repetitive task in your editing that you’d want automated?

Happy to answer anything in the comments. Link in the comments if you want to see the demos.

Alternative to capcut?

I'm a noob editor and I've only known capcut for video editing because it was the easiest tool for me, but it's export limit for the 1080p option is really frustrating :/ I tried using the free 720p option, but it turns kinda blurry to me.

I want to make a compilation edit soon for a concert-like event. Pls I need some recommendations🙏, something I could edit quickly on my phone because I use this to record.

Edit: for android pls!!

Did someone try to scam me?

The other day I posted a question about how much to charge for a Pokémon video I was commissioned to make, the funny thing is that shortly after, An account with no posts sent me a DM saying he was also a Pokémon TCG editor and asked me to show him my video so he could give me feedback. Being clever, I asked for his Instagram or some account where I could see his content "because I liked to get inspired" and he never answered me again.

Am I being overly paranoid, or did I just avoid an Indian scam?

Poor quality please HELP!!!

Hi guys I’m new to editing and just experimenting on davinci. I spend hours editing just for the edit to look extremely blurry and condensed on TikTok and when I look at it from another device it’s even 10x worse. I export it in high quality and everything. I see some really high quality edits on TikTok and wondering how this is achieved and whether ai is part of it. I also do have to resort to screen recording footage because I not sure how else to download the high quality version of clip for free

are there any free caption generator apps/websites that i can actually use?

i’m trying to generate captions for my 10 min long video, tiktok is refusing to do it for whatever reason. i tried to find editing apps that can generate the captions for the full video and let me export it without a paywall or infinite friction just to generate captions and/or export, but i’ve had absolutely no luck. also before recommendations please make sure they’re actually free for generating captions per day and actually export the entire video, otherwise i’d just run into the same exact problem. thank you !

Some help

make videos and need a large number of images from Google every day. Is there a fast way to download images instead of searching for each one individually?

Did someone found a fix for this?

Yo, does anyone know how to prevent TikTok from ruining the quality of my videos when I upload them? I've tried upscaling with Topaz, adding sharpness, color correction, etc., but every time I upload, the quality is completely gone. I also tried handbrake + many settings for rendering in media encoder/after effects. ( I get HQ clips and also i edit in after effects)

If someone could tell me what I should do, I'd really appreciate i
