Bike purchase question Buying two ebikes: buy now or wait for Black Friday?

My wife and I are looking to get two ebikes for camping and fishing trips. We're both semi-retired now and have more time to get out. Mostly we'd use them around camprounds and on local bike paths, and being able to fold them up would help when packing for a trip. We've been looking at the Heybike Ranger 3.0 Pro, but haven't decided whether to buy now or wait for Black Friday. Anyone remember if Heybike had better deals on Black Friday last year, or were the early discounts about the same?

This is what happens when scrolling the internet at 2am. I’ve never owned or even ridden an e-bike before but at $1000 off I hit the add to cart and bought myself this bike. It’s a class three whatever that means. I pick it up from REI in a week. It’s returnable up to a full year if I decide I don’t like it. Anyone have any experience with this bike

Bike purchase question UK people: Question about the government cycle to work scheme and buying an e-bike through this

• Upvotes

I am looking to buy a e-bike through the cycle to work scheme as it seems to be cheaper. I was just wondering if anyone here has used it before, if so how did it actually work as it seems a bit confusing. Also where you able to go over £1,000 or did the scheme that your company uses have a cap. And how did the end of the hire work, did you just get the bike for free or did you have to pay a fee?

Bike purchase question Honest advice - E-trike for 82 year old?

My father-in-law wants to buy an e-trike to get around his village, because he has been told not to drive for 6 months after having a cardiac event and receiving a new pacemaker.

He is understandably feeling cooped up at home (outskirts of a suburban Irish village) and wants his freedom to get to the shops etc., but I feel like this is a ridiculous idea.

If someone is not able to drive due to risk of fainting or heart attack behind the wheel, how much better off would they be operating a heavy electric bike!?

Additionally, he is not the same cyclist or motorist he used to be - he has trouble extending his neck to look both ways at junctions, he has hearing issues, and he even fell off his regular bike on the ice a few years ago and broke his pelvis.

How do we talk him out of this sensitively? I can’t find any source to share with him that actually backs up how misguided this idea seems to me.

For the senior community who ride e-bikes or trikes (or their kids) …am I just being over-cautious?

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you!!

Charging a Tesla with Two E-Bikes on a Hitch Rack?

• Upvotes

Has anyone had trouble using Tesla Superchargers with bikes mounted on the back? Do most locations have an end stall or enough room to park at an angle without removing the bikes? Any tips from personal experience would be appreciated!

do not buy qlife bikes

when i tell you the build quality is terrible, it's terrible. i hit the front brake on my spark plus and the rotor bent itself to the point where the wheel can't spin. my drivetrain broke somehow and now makes a terrible scratching noise while accelerating. luckily the customer service is amazing and replaced all these parts but this thing really is a piece of shit. if you have qlife spark plus money, save it.

Bike build question New to bikes, need recommendations for a MTB suitable for a 3000W conversion kit

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to mountain bikes and I’m planning on building my first electric bike using a 3000W 72V rear hub motor conversion kit with a 40Ah battery.

The kit requires 135mm open rear dropouts (quick release), so I’m trying to find a mountain bike that’s compatible and has enough frame space to fit the fairly large 72V 40Ah battery.

I’ve been looking at bikes like the Polygon Cascade 3/4, Giant Talon 3 and Specialized Rockhopper, but I’m not sure which would be the best option.

I’m based in Australia and ideally want something budget-friendly, either new or second-hand. I’m also planning on using reinforced torque arms and upgrading the brakes if needed.

Does anyone have recommendations for specific bikes or models that would work? I’m particularly interested in finding something with the correct dropout spacing, enough room for the battery and a frame suitable for handling this much power.

Any advice on compatibility, frame strength or things I should watch out for would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Velotric Nomad 2x vs Monarc Marker - Cannot Decide

I am so torn between these 2 ebikes. This will be my 1st ebike purchase but have been doing a lot of research trying to make an informed decision. The Velotric appeals to me because of the rear tire suspension, 15 motor settings, and extended size of the battery. The Monarc is equally appealing for the price, touchscreen display, dual batteries included, 5 year warranty, and 4 piston breaks. I have test ridden the Velotric and loved the feel but know the Monarc will be comparable just without the rear tire shock. Any suggestions you have or advice on which way I should lean for my purchase??

Are moped-style e-bikes becoming genuinely practical, or are they mostly about the motorcycle look?

Thumbnail

I’ve noticed more e-bikes borrowing the moped and motorcycle look, with compact frames, 20×4.0 fat tires, and full suspension. Some models also come with a 48V 20Ah battery, a 1000W motor, and hydraulic disc brakes.

The style definitely stands out, but I’m curious how riders feel about the real-world trade-offs. Does the moped-style design make the bike more comfortable and confidence-inspiring, or does it mean extra weight and less nimble handling? Where do you think these bikes make the most sense: commuting, casual rides, or off-road use?

What would matter most to you before considering one: comfort, weight, handling, range, serviceability, or something else?

For transparency, I work in the e-bike industry and am interested in the broader design trend.

Quiet Kat QKM1000 vs Velotric nomad 2x

I have a used quiet Kat QKM1000 that I could get for $1550 or a velotric nomad 2x for 1800. QK would need new rear brakes, brand new battery and tires. Nomad is essentially brand new. I know nothing about e-bikes and looking solely for a hunting setup. Most slick muddy crop fields with a few wooded trials. Not much rocky terrain in my area.

Deceptive Range and Horrible Quality Control- Lectric XP Lite 2.0

• Upvotes

I am deeply disappointed with the Lectric XP Lite 2.0. The company relies on a bogus range claim of "up to 45 miles," which is pure fiction in real-world scenarios. I weigh 175 lbs and ride under gentle conditions—minimal hills, pedal assist never above level 2, and rarely ever touching the throttle. Despite this, I only get about 18 miles on a single charge. The standard battery pack is physically too small for their advertised claims under normal use.

Beyond the deceptive metrics, the build quality and quality control are terrible. The frame welds are so incredibly sloppy right next to the charging port that the rubber plug cover literally will not stay in the hole, leaving the electrical port permanently exposed. To make matters worse, the bike shipped with no owner's manual included in the box. Yes, I know the manuals are online. More than 2 billion people on the planet are not.

When attempting to add accessories, the frame quality issues continued—the mounting points for the rear rack are so poorly aligned that it is impossible to install the rack without cross-threading the bolts.

This bike is a major disappointment, defined by misleading marketing and sloppy manufacturing. Customer service was not helpful in any way. Save your money and look elsewhere.

Ramp for row house stoop

I just picked up my new (used) e-bike (a 2022 Gazelle Medeo T10+). I'm 65. I bought it as a way of staying active as I get older. I love it so far, for all of the two days I've had it.

The bike is close to 60 pounds. My old commuter, fully laden, was way lighter, by ten pounds or more. I live in a townhouse, with an unheated vestibule where the bike lives, just at the top of eight stairs, the last one (to get in the door) uneven.

Can someone recommend a foldable, portable ramp to get the bike in and out of the house?

Did I get unlucky? Or are Fiido bikes of poor quality?

Last Friday, I got my C11 Pro, I assembled it in about an hour, I think the front wheel installation was the most challenging, but the overall process went smoothly. After assembling the bike, I noticed that one of the break disc was misaligned and rubbing against a pad, so I fixed that. Then, I noticed that the gears weren't shifting. So I submitted a warranty claim to the shop I got the bicycle from and started using the bicycle riding only in 1st gear – not ideal, but better than nothing. Later that day, after about 6 km, the bicycle started to turn off on its own, making it unusable, especially at night as the nights shut off too. I've charged the batter, but the problem persists. I have requested an exchange, but I want to ask whether Fiido bicycles are this bad or whether it was just my ill luck.

Questions from a new e-bike owner.

I had a chance to buy an e-bike 13 years ago and I still regret I didn’t. Finally I own one. Went for my second ride today, over 17k. It was so amazing and I’m so happy! I’m looking forward to my next work day and taking a very long ride home (I work less then 1k from my house lol) and all the different places I can hit before getting home.

Few questions:

  1. what’s a good app for tracking your rides?

  2. A local bike shop told me about solar panels to charge the batteries, and I wanted to know is this actually feasible? (If so this is a long term goal.)

  3. What’s your fav biking accessories?
