Dayton Audio MX6-22

i have this built by a friend so its not really my DIY. for my Toyota Yaris/Vitz RS1. but recently i bought a slightly bigger sub to replace it with the intention of using it in my home system. it was originally a ported design. but i since turned it to sealed. because it im integrates better with markaudio maop7 .lpf is set at 55hz. initially i was worried about the low efficiency. but in practice it has more output than i expected when placed it in the corner. it enhanced the 3 dimensionality of my system.

note:

this may not have worked out if i didnt build my system around a small room. so if you have a bigger room, large main speakers. and likes listening loud. it may not work for you.

Fisher DS-177 mods

Asking for help, going to mod these cheap speakers as my first, in what I hope is many refurbished speakers, there are so many great speakers just waiting to be refurbished, I know these are not great, that is why they are a test subject.
I have a pair of vintage Fisher DS-177 floor speakers that are in phenomenal condition, sans the normal scratches and peeling vinyl, However they have no internal sound deadening material and no crossover. I want to remove the in-line capacitors and add a 3 way crossover, I pulled the W/M/T and I am in the process of looking up specs.
1. Would a “generic” crossover suffice ?
2. What material is used on the inside as sound deadening material.
3. Swap out spring speaker terminals for binding posts ?
4. Instead of re-wrapping in vinyl I thought wood veneer would look better and bring them out of the 70’s or should I just stick to vinyl.

Background I have electronics training, really good with a soldering iron. I have been a wood worker for 20 years and I have been restoring old turntables for about 8 months now.

ps. One of the silk domes on the woofer has some dust/debris I tried wiping- I know stupid me, learned a vacuum can be your friend, how would you recommend removing this. If it’s even possible.

Thanks for reading this long post.

Blue Print Acquisition and Design Research

Howdy everyone!
My buddy who’s super handy and I wanted to build some speakers (by we, I mostly mean him… but I wanted to help source and research speakers designs).
Can anyone recommend a place to source designs/blue prints?

Wanted to look through stuff that fits his aesthetic, but also has documented performance☺️

Thanks in advance for the help!

Dayton Audio UMII12-22 Ultimax II

Looking for a new home theater subwoofer.

For a home cinema but decent music setup, please explain me why a DYI Dayton Audio UMII12-22 Ultimax II powered by a Behringer NX3000D wouldn’t outperform a SVS PB-2000 PRO or a klipsch rp 1200sw? and at half the cost.

Push Button to Music

I recently upgraded from Steve’s push button to this board and no longer have to use a sound blaster card to play audio to my landscape rock speakers. Plus this one is way easier to program and work with. (this is not an affiliate link and not sponsored, just wanted to share another option that is out there)

DIY tower speakers

Hey guys! I have thrifted a receiver and have 4 spare 6.5" car speakers along with 2 spare 8" car subwoofers. I am wanting to DIY my own tower speakers (Build the enclosure myself).I know car speakers aren't optimal but I figured this is a great use for them to achieve higher quality sound at home using stuff I already have sitting around.

My initial plan is to get wood from home depot and build the tower speakers myself, putting the 8" subs on the bottoms of each tower with 2 6.5" above it and leaving some room at the top for a dedicated tweeter if I wanted to in the future.

My question lies with the specifics. If I wire 2 of the 6.5" speakers in series I will get 8 ohms for my receiver. They are 75 watt RMS at 4 ohm individually so in series they would be 8 ohms 150 watt RMS?

After this I would want to know how would I add the 8" subs to the bottoms? on Crutchfield it says the P2D2-8 are 2 ohm but can do 1 or 4 ohm as well?

My biggest question I want answered is if I go ahead and build the tower enclosure. Would my theatrical setup work even if I have to do something else like add crossovers or something?

Parts list:

1x Onkyo HT-R693

2x Rockford Fosgate P2D2-8

4x Pioneer - TS-A653FH - A-Series

First crossover build. Does it make sense?

Hi. I’m building my first set of speakers following a kit. I have very little experience with electronics, so I’m wondering if this makes sense. Feel like I should make the whole thing more compact, but this was the board that followed the kit. Nothing is welded together yet.

Built a pair of desktop monitors using Geberit acoustic plumbing pipe

I built a pair of desktop speakers using a Geberit plumbing pipe (Silent-PP) and some 3D prints. Total cost was under €100 for the pair.

The Silent-PP pipe is a mineral-reinforced polypropylene engineered for wastewater sound insulation—so it’s basically a rigid, pre-damped cabinet right off the shelf.

I used a Monacor SPX-32M 3" full-range driver. Our first prototype had a standard reflex tube, but pushing bass on such a small cone caused vocal smearing (intermodulation distortion) and midrange pipe resonances. To fix this I designed a rear-firing 360° radial slot port. The narrow slot gap adds boundary-layer viscous drag, acting like an aperiodic vent that brakes the cone near tuning without air chuffing.

A few quick build details:

- Baffle and port printed in PETG, gaskets in TPU. Everything friction-fits into the pipe's factory rubber ring sockets—no glue anywhere.

- The 3D-printed foot gives a net 12.5° upward tilt to point at your ears on a desk, and has a hollow chamber filled with ~200g of aquarium sand so it isn't top-heavy.

To me it sounds like the midrange cleared up completely compared to the tube port. Next step is putting them on the bench for DATS V3 impedance sweeps and near-field mic sweeps to see if the physical tuning lands where the boundary-layer math predicted.

STLs are free on Printables and I documented the build also on my blog Geelen Audio: math on the port design and assembly guide.

Let me know what you think!

I have now acquired a Yaesu FT 450 Transceiver and i would dearly would like to use the Equaliser with the Yaesu. I wonder if someone could help me with an adaptor cable.

I Have tried the usual channels but up to now had no positive answers.

The Microphone into the Equaliser is from my Studio Mic. ( XLR )

I have included a couple of photos.

Help making a DIY speaker with pre-loaded sounds

Hello,
So I want to try and build essentially a speaker with different buttons/triggers that can play prerecorded audio from a trip I just took as a kind of nostalgic reminder of the sounds of my trip. I would love to be able to upload my own voice memos somehow and be able to trigger them individually. Does anyone know how I could build this or if there's anything I could buy that already allows it? Thanks so much

Looking for original PROEL WAVE12A amplifier PCB photos (33000054 VER)

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for clear photos or the original schematic of the amplifier board used in the PROEL WAVE12A active speaker, specifically PCB 33000054 WAVE AMP VER.

I'm repairing one and need to verify which components were originally installed, particularly around R12, D5 and R31.

Does anyone own this exact speaker or have access to the same PCB revision?

Even a few close-up photos of the original board would be extremely helpful!

Thanks in advance!

Hi People, i wnated to share my Diy-Boxes i had no clue or wathever when i started. But wanted to build my own Spwakers because i sold my motorbike and looked for a safer hobby. I build for roughtly a year when i had time i had no stress but it was fun, lots of try and error. Now i can say, i hate woodwork especially when i dont have good equipment and relie on that my what my grandpa has ant that was sometimes not very accurate. So my cabinet is kind of a "pfusch" like we say in austria nothing does alline right haha.

but the sound is amazing after a bit of a Subwoofer burn 2 times due to overpowering it and one time a short circut and lots of not proper soldering it comes to an and.

i want to repaint the whole front because of not good work from me and also the veneers need some rework i want to oil them and glue.

The whole Project i fixed stuff and then spawned a new problem but it was nice. And now i have better knowledge how to calculate boxes instead of buying everything and then calculate but id dit work and it is the best sounding thing i ever had and heard in my life i am proud of it.

I know the Position of them is very bad, but at the moment i have no other place to place them. But maybe next year i will move out and then they will be standing in the livingroom ;)

Drivers:

DC25T-8 Dayton Tweeter

Monacor SP-4/60PRO Mid

Dayton Audio Reference RS225P-8A. as a Sub

bevore i had as subs: Visaton w200 but did not know they where designed for a seald box

i also started building my own amp but this is a different story. it sounded so poor in my first test bevore i put it togehter then one capacitor exploded now the project is on ice and i got the Denon PMA 720 AE on ebay auction it was a steal. And the Sound ist just better than my diy amp.

Thanks for reading hope you let some comments ;)

I just made some BULLSHIT!!! Amplifier i tink

This is just the beginning.

I will make more shit from stuff i found in the trash.

As for the amplifying, it sounded nicely, no noise at all.

Tried it with a microphone and it gave a decent volume, even if my battery was almost dead.

As for amplifying audio from my pc, it gave it some grittiness . Very nice.

No budget diy endgame speaker build

I want to build myself a pair of endgame speakers.

Truly the best of the best something there will never need to be any reason to upgrade from.

There is no budget, but ideally I’d like for someone else to have designed and done the audio engineering as I’m not equipped to do so.

So either ultimate diy kit or diy plan is what I’m looking for again there is no budget. Sky is the limit.

Help me figure out what to build, I will build these and come back and post about them.

The point of this project is to get the best possible quality I can build myself. I could always spend 20k on speakers or whatever but I just think it would be more fun to say I built them myself if they are going to be my lifelong pair.

Can someone help with this diy impedance jig. Jagged impedance response

So I made this impedance jig and it's making measurements on everything but the moment but the measurements look really jagged attached is the diagram of the original jig and what my jig looks like. Also attached is a measurement I use to make with the Dayton audio reference series 100-8 driver also attached is the manufacturer's data so you have an idea of what it's supposed to look like all the connections all the connections are soldered and insulated electrical tape
