Strangeness with Mini PC power supplies
So, we have two different lots of Dell Mini PCs. Same exact model. Came with two different power bricks, different brick model for each lot. Both are OEM adapters. One lot (older lot) BIOS says "under powered," despite being the power supply that came in the box with the PC.
The newer lot has a power adapter that works with either lot. Both are listed as 180 Watt power adapters.

Help When should I replace my battery?

So I today I noticed the battery was draining very fast in about an hour or so and made a battery report in cmd.
I rarely use the battery only when travelling or when i have to finish something quick before bed.
The rest of the time its always plugged in at 100%
And here you can see the battery life is at 56% only...
About my laptop its a Dell precision 7540 with a nividia quadro T1000 and a i7 9850H so it uses a lot of power.
When do you guys consider me changing it for a new one or should I leave it like this.

Dell Inspiron 3542 shuts down after Dell logo
I recently installed Linux Mint XFCE on my Dell Inspiron 3542. After installation, my mouse wasn't working, so I tried restarting the laptop by holding the power button.
Since then, the laptop has stopped booting properly.
When I connect the charger with the battery removed, the laptop turns on automatically.
The Dell logo appears, the fan spins briefly, and then the laptop completely shuts down.
All laptop indicator lights turn off, and pressing the power button does nothing afterward.
With the battery installed, the laptop doesn't turn on at all, even when the charger is connected.
The charger's indicator light turns off when connected to the laptop.
Could this be a motherboard short circuit or a power-related hardware issue? Could anything related to the Linux installation have caused this?
I'd appreciate any troubleshooting advice before taking it to a repair shop.

Discussion Remember BBM for Android?
Mike from Dell here. Thirteen years ago, I made the bold🤣 decision to install BBM on my Android phone.
This screenshot is a reminder that we should all document our questionable technology choices for future reference. Somewhere out there, my past self was thinking, “BlackBerry Messenger on Android? Finally, the best of both worlds.”
History, and probably BlackBerry, disagreed.

Help My dell inspiron keeps going into supportassist preboot system performance check, every time it fails and says theres something wrong with my drive. Any help?
Long story short, I was playing roblox like the chud i am and then i decide to get off and get on chrome to write something. My laptop took forever to close roblox, then it took forever to load chrome (which it didnt end up doing), loaded an error code for roblox, then my screen froze. I turned off the laptop, turned it back on, and i got the recovery screen. No matter what i did i couldnt get out, so i tried the supportassist check and now i cant back out of it without going to other menus like the bios and where you check your device info. I opened it up and tighten the connection on the hard drive, but that didnt work. Im lost and im insanely fucked if i cant fix this.

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS freezes right after boot on Dell Latitude 7280 in dual-boot with Windows
I have a Dell Latitude 7280 running Windows and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS in a dual-boot setup. Everything was working fine at first, but Ubuntu started freezing just after booting.
Now, the system becomes unresponsive either during startup or shortly after login.
Has anyone experienced this issue on a Dell Latitude 7280 or with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS? What could be causing it, and what are the best steps to fix it?

Discussion Reliability of Dell 14S?
For context, ASUS Zenbook 14 experienced two 0x124 errors, with the second error resulting in permanent OS loss. I purchased this laptop FOURTEEN (14) months ago and now it’s unusable unless I replace the soldered motherboard. I kept it up to date with updates on OS and drivers, never ran any heavy applications, and barely took up any space on the SSD.
The laptop I’m looking at is the Dell 14S ds14265 in following specs:
2K OLED Touchscreen Laptop
AMD Ryzen 7 445 2026
16 GB Memory LPDDR5x
512 GB SSD (Unspecified)
Does anyone have positive/negatives experiences as well as insight to share about this laptop with the same (or similar) specs? Don’t want a similar situation as my ASUS.

Help optiplex 7090 making clicking noises runs fine
I bought this refurbished in 2024. It still works ok and passes all the dell hardware tests. I have SSD drives, checked the fans, disconnected the DVD drive and the green indicator light is working on the back of the power supply.
It's got a 260 W power supply. I think it's coming from inside the power supply but not sure.
is it worth repairing or am I just better off buying something else?

Discussion Dell TechHub was breaking Windows 11 taskbar auto-hide on my system
After several days of troubleshooting, I finally tracked down a Windows 11 taskbar auto-hide issue that had been driving me crazy. On my system, the problem appears to be caused by Dell TechHub.
The symptoms
· Taskbar auto-hide stopped working reliably.
· Moving the pointer to the bottom of the screen would not bring the taskbar back.
· The problem occurred with maximized apps, including Edge, Notepad, and File Explorer.
· At first, it looked like a Windows, graphics, or display-scaling issue.
System setup
Computer
· ASUS ROG Strix G16 (G614PR)
· AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX
· NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU
· Windows 11 Home 26H2 (Build 26300.9711)
Monitor
· Dell S2725QS 4K monitor
Dell software
· Dell Display and Peripheral Manager 2.3.0.17
· Dell Core Services 1.15.13.0
· Dell Peripheral Core 2.3.0.104
What I tried
· Changed DPI scaling settings
· Restarted Explorer and rebooted Windows
· Compared behavior in Edge, Notepad, and File Explorer
· Tested with one monitor and with multiple monitors
· Updated drivers
· Performed a clean boot
What I found
During the clean boot, I re-enabled services one at a time. The results were consistent and repeatable:
· Dell TechHub enabled: Taskbar auto-hide breaks.
· Dell TechHub disabled: Taskbar auto-hide works normally.
· TechHub re-enabled: The problem returns.
· TechHub disabled again: The problem disappears.
I have reproduced this behavior multiple times.
Why this seems broader than one PC
I saw a very similar issue months ago on a completely different computer—a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus—and have now reproduced it on this ASUS laptop. The common factors are:
· A Dell monitor
· Dell Display and Peripheral Manager
· Dell TechHub
The downside
Disabling Dell TechHub restores normal taskbar behavior, but Dell Display and Peripheral Manager can no longer communicate with the monitor.
Questions
· Has anyone else run into this?
· Is there a newer version of Dell TechHub or Dell Display and Peripheral Manager that fixes the issue?

Executive Enrichment, Structural Double Standards, and the Failure of Core Corporate Values and Leadership
Statement of Misalignment and Systemic Risk:
This submission highlights an insurmountable contradiction between Dell Technologies’ publicly stated corporate values, its compliance enforcement, and its executive compensation practices over the 5-year reporting period (FY 2022 through FY 2026).
- Wealth Disparity: Median Pay vs. Executive Holdings & Dividend Cash Flow
In official SEC filings (DEF 14A), Dell reports a median employee annual compensation of $78,796. Juxtaposing this baseline against executive capital growth and quarterly passive income reveals the extreme magnitude of internal wealth divergence:
Lifetime Earnings vs. 5-Year Capital Growth:
Average Employee Career: Working a full 40-year career at Dell’s median annual wage yields $3.15 Million in gross lifetime earnings.
Jeff Clarke (COO & Vice Chair): Generated an estimated +$592.09 Million in 5-year capital growth (reaching an estimated holding value of ~$825M on grants worth $232.91M at award). This capital gain represents 188 times an average employee's total 40-year career earnings.
William Scannell (Pres., Global Sales): Generated an estimated +$254.92 Million in 5-year capital growth (~$308M total value) — 81 times a median employee's lifetime earnings.
Richard Rothberg (General Counsel) & Yvonne McGill (CFO): Generated 5-year capital gains of +$191.70 Million (61x lifetime earnings) and +$48.16 Million (15x lifetime earnings) respectively.
Passive Dividend Generation: At Dell’s current quarterly dividend rate of $0.63 per share, executive stock holdings yield massive passive quarterly cash flow: Holding ~1.65 million shares and equivalents, Jeff Clarke generates an estimated ~$1.04 Million in cash payouts every single quarter in dividends alone. A single quarterly dividend check to the COO exceeds 13 years of full-time gross wages for an average Dell employee; a single year of Mr. Clarke's passive dividends are more than a lifetime of working for Dell.
- Performative Values vs. Downsizing as Risk Offloading
Dell frequently cites core principles such as "Winning Together" and "Doing the Right Thing." However, SEC filings confirm that "winning" is an asymmetric outcome reserved exclusively for equity-holding officers, while financial risk is transferred entirely to non-equity-bearing workers:
FY 2024: 13,000 jobs eliminated
FY 2025: 12,000 jobs eliminated
FY 2026: 11,000 jobs eliminated
5-Year Aggregate: 36,000 workforce positions eliminated; a 27% total net reduction.
When strategic missteps occur, executives bear no personal financial consequences—insulating themselves through title reorganizations and board-sanctioned grant adjustments. Instead, 36,000 workers lost their livelihoods while remaining employees absorbed wage compression and operational burnout.
- Passive Competitive Tracking vs. Structural Wage Suppression
While Dell publicly frames itself as an industry leader, operational pay decisions reveal a pattern of passive competitive tracking when addressing rank-and-file compensation.
During a past corporate all-hands meeting, when executive leadership was questioned regarding wage adjustments to match compounding inflation, the official response was that "no competitors have announced plans for such adjustments, so Dell will not either." Selectively invoking market competition to suppress wage growth while claiming industry leadership represents a clear operational contradiction. Workers are left with below-inflation raises, while their primary "reward" for high performance is simply avoiding the next layoff cycle- maybe.
- Incentive Misalignment & Compliance Double Standards
Dell’s compensation model systematically limits wealth accumulation for non-executive employees:
Discretionary Cash Bonuses: Cash bonuses do not compound into base pay over time, are taxed at supplemental income rates, and give managers insufficient budget to retain top technical talent.
Equity Exclusion: While leadership argues that executive stock awards are necessary to incentivize innovation, withholding broad-based equity from rank-and-file workers directly contradicts this logic. If equity drives performance, excluding the workforce actively suppresses long-term value.
Compliance Asymmetry: Dell’s Code of Conduct strictly enforces gift bans and conflict-of-interest policies on frontline workers to eliminate even the "mere appearance of impropriety." Enforcing strict penalties on employees for minor administrative issues while board structures enable executives to extract hundreds of millions of dollars by eliminating 36,000 livelihoods creates an institutional double standard that destroys internal trust.
Action Requested:
This report requests that the Audit Committee, Compliance Officers, and the Compensation Committee of Dell’s Board of Directors:
Formally evaluate the reputational and cultural risks of executive equity structures tied to workforce reductions.
Recognize layoffs as a FAILURE of leadership and punish it accordingly.
Address the structural double standard between frontline compliance enforcement and executive enrichment.
Re-examine employee compensation models to align actual practices with public statements on corporate values and leadership.
It's time for a tech union.

Discussion Dell Shipping / Tracking Issues
Is anyone else seeing issues as of late getting items from Dell? At the start of the month we had a printer that ended up getting lost with UPS. Now we have 3 orders that are in limbo, shipped on the 13th but show this in tracking for FedEx:
"Your tracking number can't be found. It may not be in our system yet or is expired. Double check the number with the shipper or try again later."
Support says it's a glitch with tracking or may have been lost...

XPS Discussion Dell has absolutely fucked me
I returned a faulty unit to Dell and it’s been about a month now and still no money or exchange. I disputed with my bank and they say still they are going to give me a replacement and that has not happened and my shitty bank said they are going back and forth with Dell and they are fighting with them which I don’t know why as I sent them proof of what I ordered and them getting a return.

Help Dell Latitude E6420 crashes after bios post screen
This started happening after i realised that the hard drive i took out, as i wanted to install lubuntu for some iOS stuff i wanted to do, and it said that there was no charger plugged in because my figure 8 cable on the brick had come out, so i made a mistake and plugged it in while the brick was plugged into the laptop, i also had ethernet plugged in, but thankfully the pins seem fine, the f12 menu, f2 menu, diagnostic menu, they all don't work, sometimes it will freeze on the post screen, sometimes it can show a black screen after the post screen or remove certain things like cutting off the dell logo, or making it completely disappear, or only show the bios revision (A06) fan still knows when to kick on, hard drive removed, dvd drive removed, wifi card removed, ram reseated
