After several days of troubleshooting, I finally tracked down a Windows 11 taskbar auto-hide issue that had been driving me crazy. On my system, the problem appears to be caused by Dell TechHub.
The symptoms
· Taskbar auto-hide stopped working reliably.
· Moving the pointer to the bottom of the screen would not bring the taskbar back.
· The problem occurred with maximized apps, including Edge, Notepad, and File Explorer.
· At first, it looked like a Windows, graphics, or display-scaling issue.
System setup
Computer
· ASUS ROG Strix G16 (G614PR)
· AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX
· NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU
· Windows 11 Home 26H2 (Build 26300.9711)
Monitor
· Dell S2725QS 4K monitor
Dell software
· Dell Display and Peripheral Manager 2.3.0.17
· Dell Core Services 1.15.13.0
· Dell Peripheral Core 2.3.0.104
What I tried
· Changed DPI scaling settings
· Restarted Explorer and rebooted Windows
· Compared behavior in Edge, Notepad, and File Explorer
· Tested with one monitor and with multiple monitors
· Updated drivers
· Performed a clean boot
What I found
During the clean boot, I re-enabled services one at a time. The results were consistent and repeatable:
· Dell TechHub enabled: Taskbar auto-hide breaks.
· Dell TechHub disabled: Taskbar auto-hide works normally.
· TechHub re-enabled: The problem returns.
· TechHub disabled again: The problem disappears.
I have reproduced this behavior multiple times.
Why this seems broader than one PC
I saw a very similar issue months ago on a completely different computer—a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus—and have now reproduced it on this ASUS laptop. The common factors are:
· A Dell monitor
· Dell Display and Peripheral Manager
· Dell TechHub
The downside
Disabling Dell TechHub restores normal taskbar behavior, but Dell Display and Peripheral Manager can no longer communicate with the monitor.
Questions
· Has anyone else run into this?
· Is there a newer version of Dell TechHub or Dell Display and Peripheral Manager that fixes the issue?
