Announcement Low Quality Posts in the Subreddit

Hi all,

Through out the last 2 years or so, we’ve been seeing more low-effort or repetitive posts, questions that are already answered in our community wiki, and posts that are assigned the wrong flairs. We know that many of you have also raised your voice regarding this topic as well.

With that in mind, we’ve made a few changes to help keep discussions organised, keep the subreddit clear of basic inquiries and to reduce some of the repetitive content.

What will be different?

  • Mandatory Post Flairs: Users will be required to assign a flair to their post before being able to post, we have many different flairs that fit 99% of all posts so please do use them. We believe this will help us reduce and filter low-effort posts.
  • Pre-post Automations: Certain keywords, and selected flairs will display a warning / reminder message. For example selecting 'The Cyprus Problem' Flair will display a message saying that this flair is reserved for issues pertaining to the Cyprus issue / division & occupation.
  • Automoderator Adjustments: Changed the AutoModerator code to better identify such posts & comments and also to flag reported submissions. If your post wrongly gets filtered please reach out to us, as we may adjust some rules in the future based on how it works.

We’d like your feedback

Please help us moderate r/Cyprus better:

  • What would you like to see more of on r/Cyprus?
  • Are there recurring types of posts or discussions that you think are making the subreddit less useful?
  • Are our rules and post flairs clear enough?
  • Do you have other suggestions for improving the subreddit without making it unnecessarily restrictive?

Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks to everyone who contributes thoughtfully and helps make this community a little bit more fun to be in.

Venting / Rant AI Generated photos on Wolt

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Honestly, I find it absolutely ridiculous and appalling , that a restaurant uses AI generated photographs on their Wolt menu.

How bad could your food look like, that you have to generate the images with an AI tool?

How on earth does Wolt not even run a simple check with basic AI checkers?

Restaurant here.

Help How safe is Cyprus for woman?

Hi, I moved to Cyprus and started seeing a Cypriot guy. After I ended things, he started stalking me. I went to the police, but the officer I spoke to later invited me to dinner. Now I don’t know who to trust or where to turn.
I also feel uncomfortable when I go out because I notice how local men staring and saying stuffs at me. I’ve been extremely anxious and depressed since coming here. I’m scared to go out alone in the evening. I live in Limassol.
Is this a common experience for women here? What would you recommend I do?
Thank you

Question Tap water in Cyprus

• Upvotes

Hey! I’ve just moved to Nicosia, and I’m wondering if I can drink the tap water in my apartment. I read that tap water is generally safe unless it comes from the roof tank. But how can I tell whether my tap water is from the tank or from the "normal water pipeline"?

Also, do you have any recommendations on where to buy water? I only have smaller shops near my apartment that only sell normal bottled water, and I don't have a car to go to a bigger supermarket and buy a big jug. Is it possible to order water from somewhere that isn't too expensive? How does it work here?

Thank you!

Venting / Rant Leaf blowers and electric garden tools - a rant.

Is it normal in Cyprus for gardeners to use power tools and leaf blowers at 8am almost every single day? I know garden maintenance needs to be done, but holy shit. I can’t remember the last time I woke up and there wasn’t the sound of an engine right outside my door.

For context, I live in a gated complex where 90% of the houses are holiday rentals for tourists. There’s also a “neighbourhood committee” and communal fees to pay, etc. Idk if that’s relevant, but thought I’d mention it.

Most of the time, when I look out my window to see what they’re even doing, they’re either trimming perfectly healthy trees to within an inch of their lives, leaving them looking like ridiculous stumps with no foliage, OR they’re using leaf blowers to blow leaves from one corner of the road to the other.

Do these gardeners simply have contracted hours that they need to fill in whatever way they can?… Because it doesn’t feel like what they’re doing actually benefits the gardens or trees, either practically or aesthetically.

I’d get it if they were actually making the place look better, but from what I can tell the only thing they’ve achieving is giving me a daily headache.

I hate to be “that person” but are there any laws about noise pollution here?…

I’ve tried to ignore it for years but it’s starting to genuinely effect my sleep and daily life. I work from home so it’s incredibly distracting.

Idk. I’m pretty sure they’re not breaking any rules and I doubt anything can actually be done to stop it, but I’m moody and I guess this is just the only place I could think of to. Pls ignore me.

Tourism Stayed at a hotel in Cyprus? Help with my PhD research! 🇨🇾

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi, I’m completing my PhD that explores tourists' perceptions of Cyprus hotels and their communications.

Can you help and participate in an online survey? Your experience matters and it will take around 10-15 minutes to complete it.

You’re eligible if you’re 18+ and stayed at least once in a Cyprus hotel in 2024, 2025, or 2026.

https://forms.gle/JQq4L1cpJW3SWHz8A

For every completed questionnaire, I’ll buy an extra treat for one of 42 Cypriot cats living in my colony (one of them pictured, his name is Sting)! No cheating 🐈

Help buying a second hand import

Hi guys, I recently visited a showroom to buy a second-hand car and put a deposit down on a Mazda 2.

When I got home, I checked the VIN on some Japanese auction websites and found records suggesting the odometer had been rolled back by around 12,000 km sometime after the auction but before the car arrived in Cyprus.

It arrived in February 2025 and, as far as I can tell, has been sitting in the showroom ever since. When I confronted the dealer, he said that “all imports in Cyprus are like this” and that 12,000 km was nothing to worry about.

He’s offering a three-year warranty, but I’m concerned about the car’s history and whether the mileage discrepancy would make it difficult to sell in the future.

Has anyone dealt with something similar in Cyprus? Would you go ahead with the purchase, or just get your deposit back?

Venting / Rant Controversial - Stop smoking in restaurants

It's so nice visiting other countries and sitting outdoors in restaurants and breathing fresh air. In Cyprus, it's just smoke, after smoke, after smoke.

I don't mind you smoking - but f'in hell stop making me smoke too.

The amount of smoking in restaurants is just wild.

Off-Topic Shoutout to Meowmeow Cat litter

I am so glad I came across this post https://www.reddit.com/r/cyprus/comments/1wdgetd/conversation_over_the_litter_box/ from u/Playful_Lie5951.

After reading their story I decided to give the product a try, since I wanted to support a Cypriot business and a new venture, and I have to say it's much better than anything else I've ever tried.

I have two cats and consume a looot of litter. I have always bought natural litters (mostly from wood fiber), but even the best ones would always produce a lot of dust and my cats would get residue stuck between their paws and bring it all over the place. Clumping and odour control is also much better than other products. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Thank you u/Playful_Lie5951 for creating this wonderful product, I hope your company will thrive in the future.

I have to thank Reddit for this one, would have never found it otherwise! Cheers.

Help Any casual chess nights in Nicosia/Larnaka?

Hey everyone!
Does anyone know of any casual chess nights or meetups happening in Nicosia/Larnaka during the week or on weekends?
I’m looking for something relaxed where I can grab a beer, have a chat, and play a few games with random people of different skill levels.
Not really looking for a competitive chess club or tournaments, just a friendly atmosphere where amateur players can meet up and enjoy some chess.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Cheers!

Can this be better than 2005? Was there a room of improvement to begin with? So many people sold their properties there already, we are not getting a 100% Cypriot ownership the way I see it.

Some one give me an actual I side or understanding.

Help Moving to Cyprus

I have got my citizenship and my greek Cypriot passport and id card, I can now legally live and work in Cyprus.

I currently live in the UK and my greek is not good at all, I can understand a bit and speak a few words but that's it.

I have had enough of the UK and was working as a support worker and had to leave due to having a heart attack 4 years ago.

I have not really got back into employment and working self employed as a driver as I find it less stressful.

I have just passed my level 3 in social media marketing as I am looking for a career change.

Ideally looking for a remote job and was wondering if anybody has done a move to Cyprus and was able to find any work, not knowing the language or a business market I could start up that could bring on a wage? Any help would be appreciated.
