Introducing “Ironwood Monstrose” — A Blue Monstrose Cereus from Palm Desert, CA 🌵💙

Hey cactus friends! 🌵

Wanted to share a beautiful monstrose Cereus I came across at Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert, California.

The incredible blue coloration and unusual melted, flowing growth immediately caught my attention.

I’ve since been growing and propagating this beauty in my garden, and it’s been wonderful watching those same unique characteristics develop across the propagated plants.

I’ve decided to call this one “Ironwood Monstrose” in honor of where it was originally discovered.

Sharing a few photos of the plants, along with some shots of the original mother.

Hope you enjoy this beauty as much as I do! 💙🌵

Need help with identification

Just moved into a place in the Palos Verdes area of Southern California, and this large cactus is growing in the yard. I’d love to identify it and find out whether its fruit is edible.
It has:
- Tall, branching, tree-like growth
- Approximately 6 ribs on the younger stems
- Blue-green new growth
- A thick, woody base
I’m wondering if it might be Cereus repandus (Peruvian apple cactus), or something else.
Does anyone recognize it? I just wanna know if I can eat the fruit it produces. The previous owner said they never bothered to find out.

When you don't chop an etiolated cactus

The scrawny, corky growth along the top of the soil represents ~20 years of abuse by my grandmother. It was mostly a "house plant". It spent years with basically no light whatsoever, almost no water, and even spent a few years without a pot lying on a shelf with what little potting soil clung to the roots. Never had anything better than a 4" terracotta filled with miracle grow.

When I got it 10 years ago it was just 8" of extremely etiolated cactus with 2 little pups. I decided to keep all that tortured growth as a memento to its hard life. When it got light, water , and nutrients the top grew a lot and it looked like a fuzzy lollipop until it eventually bent over and dangled out the pot.

I'm glad I didn't chop it off. I feel like the ugly corky parts hugging the pot give it a natural look you don't see a lot in cultivation

My cactus has slowly been drooping down and I'm not sure how to stop it. I have tried watering it more and less, repotting it, changed the location 5 times with different lighting and nothing seems to work. Advice to get it to straight and happy?
