Crazy that a few years ago you’ll tell people that Fordham was gonna get gentry and they’ll look at you crazy .

I’ve been scraping different websites to find free things to do around NYC, and I was surprised by how many free events and workshops (e.g. crochet, ceramics) are hosted by libraries in the Bronx! Check out NYPL or https://whatsfree.nyc/?date=2026-10-27

I wanted to ask if anyone here would be interested in learning about/already has fish and would wanna meet to talk about fishkeeping/aquascaping. I'm really big into it and as nice as the idea of the Brooklyn Aquarium Society is, it's in Brooklyn and I'm kinda tired of all my hobbies dragging me down into Brooklyn or lower Manhattan.
I'm thinking maybe within the next week or so I'll make like a Google form so we can start cooking ideas. I think it's a really fun and peaceful hobby that also lets people keep pets where maybe they can't keep dogs or cats. I dunno!
I'll also expand it to cover Harlem I think. It's crazy we don't have a bespoke aquarium store either, right? Is the Reef Shoppe still around? I dunno about hiking over to City Island on the weekly, but if we really get off the ground maybe we could do monthly meetings or something and see if one of those shops could host?
Let me know!

Hi everyone! I’m a photographer and filmmaker currently working on a film about the Bronx River, exploring the relationship between a place and our memories of it — how a place becomes part of our lives, what we associate with it, and how our experiences shape the way we remember it.
I’m interested in hearing from people who have a personal connection to the river, whether you grew up around it, spend time there, have a particular memory associated with it, or simply find yourself returning to it.
I’m also curious about the different ways people connect with the river. Does anyone go there to pray, practice a religion, meditate, find peace, gather with others, or engage in any kind of personal or spiritual practice? I’d love to learn about the different meanings the river holds for people.
If you have a story, a memory, or know someone who might be interested in sharing their experience, I’d be very grateful to hear from you. Feel free to comment or send me a message.
Thank you!

I moved to NYC from Pennsylvania ten years ago, when I lived there all the smoke shops sold rolling machines, tobacco, tubes ect for rolling your own cigarettes.
Just about every single deli/bodega in the city says its a smoke shop; but they dont sell anything other than weed, illegal bootleg vapes and loosies.
Im trying to find a store where I can buy a cheap bag of tobacco (preferably 20$ or less) some tubes and a cheap little plastic roller.
Ive searched all over online and all I can find is fancy cigar and pipe tobacconists.
Anybody know of a place?

As she says in the video, we have the lowest voter turnout and the highest complainers. Please watch the whole video of you want to make a change. 🙏

Are ICE vehicles staging at the Target?
I’ve been seeing them parked in their lot the last 2 weeks and they abducted someone from those buildings across the street last week…

These are areas that the public can not legally go even if you pay. Only areas larger than a block or that take up a lot of waterfront or contain a private street or are within public land are included. Train tracks and highways are not included.

A black cat, a troubled narrator, and a Halloween story from the Bronx.
Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Black Cat” is the focus of a Storytelling Live special from Poe Cottage, where the author spent his final years.
Poet Youssef Alaoui and Dr. Steven Payne take part in the program, which pairs a reading with a conversation about Halloween traditions, spiritualism, and the cottage’s history.
The special premieres Saturday, October 31, at 10 p.m. Eastern on YouTube.
Learn more and watch the trailer at TalkTeaV, or visit bronxhistoricalsociety.org for information about this and other Halloween events.
