MOD ANNOUNCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Rules Updates for r/bisexual

Hello fellow redditors.

As you may or may not know, there was a MOD team shakeup a little while back. Not only were new moderators brought in to rejuvenate the team but the team itself was expanded as well. We now have a great, revitalized team of people working hard to keep this sub a place that people want to come to, engage in, and stay a part of. With this updated mix of new and existing moderators work then began on the sub itself. Beyond the new moderators coming to grips with their new duties, the first step was to fix up some things on the back end. This included relatively minor things such as refining some automod rules to help flag and keep potentially problematic content from ever hitting your screens in the first place. Other small changes such as updating our available post flairs and just cleaning up some long outdated stuff behind the scenes that simply helped us do our job more easily and efficiently. Step one also consisted of our community survey a few months back where we got an idea of what you wanted this sub to be in an easily digestible way. Most of your suggestions aligned with visions of what we had already had in mind for the future here.

So here we are now at step two. In conjunction with a lot of your own suggestions and wishes we are retooling our sub rules (or Bi-Laws). As well as updating some existing language for a few of the rules, we will be adding some new ones. This should be a place of safety, learning, and community and all of these updates and additions we believe are vital to achieving and maintaining that end. This sub has undoubtedly helped numerous lives over the years and can continue to help so many more and we will do all we can to preserve this valuable social tool.

Here are the primary changes we've made to our current Bi-Laws:

______________________________________________

Rule #4: Please be civil with each other.

  • A general rule to remind everyone that this is meant to be a sub for all ages to be able to engage in and that even when disagreeing we should still show each other some general courtesy.

Rule #5: Sex related questions must have safe-for-work subject lines and be flaired “Advice NSFW.”

  • Our first brand new rule. Going forward all sex related posts must have safe-for-work titles and set with our new flair option“Advice NSFW”. We also want all SFW posts to remain SFW. That way, engagement can remain as the original poster intended.

Rule #7: Do not encourage cheating.

  • Potentially the most desired change we saw from the survey responses was to curb cheating content on the sub. We are all aware that cheating happens and can be discussed as a topic. However, encouraging others to cheat, seeking advice on whether to or seeking advice on how to cheat will not be tolerated.

The rest of the changes were minor alterations and removal of some outdated language that don't ultimately change how those rules were implemented or likely interpreted.

______________________________________________

So please keep these new guidelines in mind while posting. Ongoing, step three for us currently is to remain vigilant. We'll assess how these new changes affect the health of our community and see if they steer it the direction we all want. We'll continue to strive for improvement and reevaluate along the way. Ultimately we aim to make this place clean and constructive and in doing so hopefully reach even more people.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT New Subreddit for NSFW Content

Happy Pride, everyone! Here to announce a new subreddit specifically for NSFW content:
r/bisexualafterdark This new sub will be the place to horny-post to your heart's content, share long/detailed sexual encounters, pornographic descriptions, etc.

As some folks have pointed out, we have had a bit of an influx of this type of content here lately, which breaks r/bisexual sub's rules. As a reminder of two pertinent rules for r/bisexual:

  • Rule 6 No nudity, pornography or hookups: Nude / pornographic and hook-up posts are not allowed anywhere on the sub. Those should be posted in r/bisexualafterdark r/BiSexy (NSFW) or other subreddits appropriate for that type of content. Pornography covers pornographic descriptions as well as images. If you find yourself writing long, sexual, stories you should probably stop.
  • Rule 9 No chat or dating posts. No soliciting DMs: Please do not post looking for chat partners or dating. This includes soliciting DMs. Subreddits like r/meetlgbt or r/r4r are more fitting for this content.

Posts that break these rules will be removed from this sub and redirected to r/bisexualafterdark or chat subs -- our newly expanded mod team is working hard behind the scenes to maintain the sub, make updates, and remove flagged content. If you see these posts, please don't hesitate to flag them. We get a lot of traffic on this sub, so reports help a ton in weeding out content that breaks the sub rules or makes it a less cool place to be!

Go forth and be bi 🩷💜💙

Edit for clarification: dating/DM/meetup posts should go to r/meetlgbt, r/r4r, or other subs specific to meetups

EXPERIENCE Decided I’m not going to put a label on my sexuality

• Upvotes

After much debate and process, I think I’m going to stop stressing about putting a label on my sexuality.

I’m starting to realize there is a chance I could be a comphet lesbian, but I could also very much be a bisexual with a preference for women. I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I think trying to unpack all of that would be a mess and very time consuming, so I think I’m just going to go with the flow and go where my heart leads.

I don’t know if any other bisexuals have been struggling with labels but if you also are having similar issues to me pls comment down below as it’d be nice to know I’m not the only one who is still figuring things out at 25 years old lol.

Partners of Bisexuals My GF is Bisexual and I'm wondering if certain behaviours are normal?

Well first of all this hasn't been a relationship that has gone on for long and she only came out to me once we both confessed feeling to each other. And I'd like to think I was supportive and kind (only she really knows how perfect or not I was). But she has always been a girl's girl and since we were friends before this she has always sent me reels of pretty women commenting on how great they look and such. I never cared much for it. And like normal she sent a video of a woman with amazing massive chest and was telling me that she and I should both appreciate it, and she also sent a video of a bisexual women telling people that guys should be worried that a women will steal away their women because they are just better at intimacy, and she also told me today that she just finds men's faces ugly. And honestly, all of this is making me question some stuff. Because I would never so much as lay eyes on another person. But I don't know if she is just acting like a friend and it doesn't mean much or if it's something she actually thinks.

And maybe this isn't the right sub for this. But honestly I didn't know where else to go.

EDIT: Spelling and Grammar

ADVICE About to go to an LGBT event, stressed I won't belong

Any advice for a woman in a "straight" relationship going to an LGBT party? Organizers say they are straight friendly, but their event is titled in a way that mentions only gays, lesbians, trans people... And I guess the straights 😂 Bi people subtly left out once again. I know no one there is the orientation police, but some people there know me as a married woman. No one ever says anything, it's just the way I feel inside I guess. Seeking support...

EXPERIENCE Biphobia

Just need some love fam. Recently befriended a guy and we had this incredible and completely unexpected chemistry. We are both very aware of it and have talked about it openly. I had mentioned I was bisexual when we were becoming friends. He told me the other night that he couldn’t see himself dating me because he was jealous of the fact he would have to compete with women as well as men. I was so disappointed in him. I am the most freaking dedicated partner to whoever I’m with. I feel like he forgot I am a person, and only sees my sexuality, and sees it as something threatening rather than something beautiful. I wish it had given me the ick. Sigh. Biphobia is so freaking weird. Sending love to all y’all, for whoever has experienced anything similar.

ADVICE want to explore my attraction to women, but i have a boyfriend

• Upvotes

hello. 23 F here! sorry if my wording is horrible. i'm very much in distress over this (and english isn't my first language)

i've had this thought for a while. i think it's always sitting in the back of my mind, and every so often it comes out. i want to explore my attraction to women. i've only ever had one girlfriend, when i was a teen. that relationship only lasted a few months (less than half a year). other than that, i've only had boyfriends. now i've been with my boyfriend for 4 years.

i'm fairly sure i'm bi. that label feels right for me, and i've identified as bi since i discovered what being queer was. but i feel unhappy with my queerness. i feel like something is missing?? i feel like i haven't experienced being with a woman enough to be comfortable with my identity (i hope that makes sense). this has gotten so bad that i question if i'm actually bi or if i'm a lesbian. this questioning and "unfulfilled-ness" has been going on for years (before i even met my boyfriend). i've had this thought before with my ex-boyfriends, but i thought it was because i was unhappy with them (due to them being toxic, etc.).

i'm genuinely just so confused??? what do i do? i don't want to break up with my boyfriend. but i feel like if i don't explore more, this will bother me for the rest of my life. and no, cheating is NOT an option. i've had some conversations with my boyfriend about having an open relationship, but he's always been against it. i really am lost right now. i've read every reddit post with a similar experience and i still don't know what to do.

again, sorry if this doesn't make sense lol. its almost 5am where i am, so this is very much keeping me up.

any thoughts or advice would be appreciated greatly!

ADVICE how long did it take for your parent(s) to accept you?

i’m 22F and recently came out as bisexual, because i'm dating a girl for the first time, she is 26F. i am so happy and crazy in love.

my dad was pretty chill and mostly just wanted to make sure i was okay. my mom has taken it really badly, which honestly caught me off guard. we’re not religious, and neither of my parents had ever shown any issue with queer people. we have several LGBTQ+ family members and friends, including my mother's goddaughter (my cousin, whom she loves and accepts so deeply), so i never expected things to be this different when it was me.

she’s told me she put all her happiness in me and now her life is over. she keeps asking where her little girl went and saying she doesn’t recognize me anymore. she says she accepts and respects me, but then tells me how sad she is and how the future she imagined for me is gone, no marriage, no nice boy, no grandkids (although i did say these things can in fact come along).

i’m still here. i’m still her daughter, regardless. i don’t know how to respond when she talks like she’s lost me, because from my side it feels like i’m losing my relationship with her just for being honest.

we are extremely close, and i’m really sad. i love her and want her in my life. i know i can’t give her a timeline or make her accept this, but right now i could really use some hope that it won’t always feel like this. it's been one week and one day.

she doesn’t want to talk to me, and when she does, she either yells at me in person or sends me messages in all caps. i don’t know how to reach her when every attempt to talk seems to make things worse.

my girlfriend has been incredibly supportive, and so have my friends and my dad. he and i don’t really talk much, but i know i can count on him. i’m grateful for all of them, but i still miss my mom. i miss how we were before i told her. now, when she looks at me, all i can see is anger and what feels like hatred.

if your parents reacted similarly and eventually came around, how long did it take? what did “coming around” actually look like? was there anything that helped, or did they mostly need time? and how did you get through that period without feeling guilty for their unhappiness? are there any books i could read or any resources i could share with her?

QUESTIONING After 38+ years….I think I might be a Bi dude? Is it normal to feel like you’re pretending?

Oh man here it goes…this is gotten kinda…idk not hard but, confusing?

My whole life I would identify as straight. Not that I actively identified as straight, I was mostly just meh whatevs about it. But in the last few years I’ve begun to feel curious. Like…I noticed that very feminine guys seem to catch my eye. At first I thought it was cuz they just stood out from the crowd (live in a conservative-leaning area) of most men. But now I’m wondering if they are catching my eye cuz they are standing out. I still predominantly find women sexually attractive, and have been with my current GF for nearly 10 years. I don’t plan on that changing. We very much love each other and our relationship is great.

But sometimes….I find myself fantasizing. About femenine men. And me wanting to…ahem…gawd I can’t even bring myself to say it out of self consciousness. But yeah, it def gives me some feels that I didn’t feel before. Masculinity is not something that I have ever found sexually appealing. And I wouldn’t say that I am all that masculine either, but def. Not feminine. But am I fooling/gaslighting myself? Does this mean something bad for my relationship? is it normal to feel this way? I would never cheat on my partner, but I imagine if things, god forbid, didn’t work out, I’d like to try being with a guy. If nothing else to know for sure.
Why did it wait till I was in the midst of adulthood to start? Or was this something that was always there?
Can you be bi if you don’t have a 50/50 split of attraction to males and females? is it normal to have a type? To be picky?
Like if I only find a certain type of person attractive, does that actually make me bi? Or just…not bi?

So like….I’m bisexual….aren’t I? I’m afraid to tell anyone, not because of like people lashing out, out of bigotry, but because people would accuse me of just making it up. I really don’t think I give off a vibe that states I’m anything but hetero, so it would really catch people off guard. I’m afraid people will think less of me for whatever reason. And while my gf and I are both allies of LGBTQ causes, I’m still afraid to tell her as idk if it would risk our relationship.

I’m over thinking this aren’t I?

I’ve never gone through anything like this before….so yeah….I think I’m bisexual. What do I do? Do I do anything?

ADVICE I’m attracted to men but disgusted at myself for it

This is a throw away account cuz my family follows me on my main account.

I (22m) often fantasize about men and imagine myself romantically with a man. When I watch porn, I’m more focused on the man than the woman, and thinking about pleasing him. I’m attracted to men, all my celebrity crushes are on men, but when I imagine myself in a gay relationship, I’m disgusted by the very thought. I don’t wanna be in a gay relationship, I just wanna be in a normal relationship where we’re both men. I get grossed out whenever I see two men kissing, I can’t watch gay porn for the same reason, and when I hear a man mention his boyfriend, I feel jealous but also cringe at the same time. I get so jealous when I hear women talk about their celebrity crushes, I wanna chime in and agree with them or mention mine, but then they are gonna be perceiving me as gay and I don’t like that. I would strictly be a bottom and side cuz for some reason it feels more normal for me. If I top a man, it makes me feel really guilty and self conscious and disgusted. I like women too, but I feel more like that’s what I’m supposed to want, knowing my parents want me to have a wife and kids and do the whole American dream thing, but that feels so limiting to me. If I were a woman, I’d be the straightest woman you’ve ever met, and I wouldn’t have to feel guilty about my attractions.
Thanks if you read my rant, any advice is appreciated.

QUESTIONING Very confused

I (20m) have always been attracted to women, but recently I’ve gotten feelings for very feminine men. Whenever they make that cutesy voice and act submissive I get very flustered. My taste in women have always been the confident type, and I find stereotypically submissive women very boring. What does this mean?

Edit: I discovered r/rolereversal. I’m a changed man.

ADVICE Update: My long-distance bsf is dating a guy

Original post

It’s been roughly two and a half weeks since I last posted. Since then, my friend and I have gotten really close again. We would FaceTime almost every night and text occasionally throughout the day, even though she lives 9 hours ahead of me and her time zone is 1 hour ahead.

However, starting last Friday, I noticed that she became pretty distant with me. Yesterday, she texted me and told me that she was seeing a guy.

Of course, it absolutely wrecked me. I knew that eventually we would have to go our separate ways, but I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon, especially when things between us had been going so well.

I love her so much, and I genuinely want her to be happy, even if that means she ends up loving someone else. I'm scared that our friendship is slowly going to fade away, and I just miss how things used to be.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this with a close friend? Or am I just overthinking this whole thing??

DISCUSSION Bisexual Men Coming Out to Their GFs

If you come out to your gf/wife because you want to explore your sexuality, she’s not biphobic if she doesn’t want you to sleep with other men. Monogamous people do not want their partner sleeping with other people, she would be upset if you wanted to sleep with other women too.

I think more guys should really take the time to get to know themselves which includes their sexuality before they get into long term relationships. It will make it much easier for all parties involved whether you’re dating men, women or both.

QUESTIONING Necesito ayuda

• Upvotes

Hola!

COMING OUT Here we go…

I have never said this to anyone or anywhere other than my personal diary. But recent events make me sure of myself. I’m bi.

I’m not out to anyone, it’s not safe to be in the country I’m living in and the conservative family I grew up in.

One question:
How do I put myself out there? I haven’t dated anyone since 7 years ago. Last time I went on a date was last year, during a trip.

ADVICE My sister who is bi is dating a Trump supporter

So I found out my sister is dating a guy who likes Trump and other notable conservatives. The most annoying part is that she herself is bisexual so how can she fall for him? Tbh I don't like their relationship, even worse after me and him had a huge fight on discord, regarding LGBT. That's when I realised he is homophobic.

This happened back in April and she is still dating him. Idk what should I do I feel like I have no right to interfere but at the same time I care about her future. What do you guys think?

EXPERIENCE I never feel as BI

Like i either feel a straight girl when i fantasize about men or gay when i fantasize about women.

Like i imagine a completely different future when i think about guys or when i think of women.

It honestly confuses my mind cause I feel romantic and sexual attraction very intensely.(I have ADHD)

Sometimes I kinda want a girlfriend and boyfriend tbh

But not sure if i can actually date two people i am very insecure and untrusting of people

Do you feel the same way?

DISCUSSION For Fun: Who Would You Choose from the Arcane Netflix Series As Ur Partner?

Ok folks - bi panic - set in right?

Who would you choose? Why? Can be ANYONE from the entire cast of Arcane

I'll go first: I'm looking for my ever after & I have characteristics as well as personality similar to that of Vi (even though I'm trans masc, I'm still sapphic AF at heart & I do have my softer looks here & there) so, Caitlyn.

Why Caitlyn? She's elegant, incredibly smart, good leadership qualities, makes calculated decisions/pretty level headed, loyal AF, kind, knows what she wants & goes for it, dresses very well, ferociously feminine, no tats/piercings, gorgeous (those sapphire eyes), siren-like hair, a bit smart assy, sassy, and an excellent shot ;p

OK - YOU'RE NEXT! Let's have some fun!

DISCUSSION Aren’t there more like me? Very straight leaning bi men 👨

I am not in denial of my bisexuality but my love life is typically satisfied with straight normative relationships. When I do venture into same-sex or non-binary experiences it’s very seldom, selective and not a need typically.

However, aren’t there many more guys like me? We just typically don’t fully come out to people or live openly in a stereotypically presenting queer way.

Anyone experience this? Has anyone hooked up with same-sex and enjoyed the thrill of it in the past and not really been into it afterwards?

Is your pansexual or bisexuality really dependent on how you’re feeling at the moment?

QUESTIONING Pregunta curiosa

Hola!

ADVICE Possible throuple situation

Hello. I'm looking to get some advice from this community. I already posted in the polyamory subreddit as well but I feel more comfortable here because I've been here longer😅 My partner and I (both women) have been together for nearly 10 years and have found ourselves in an unexpected situation that we are exploring. For some background, when I first met my partner she had a friend. They had some brief history in the past but from my perspective nothing serious. Over the years he also became a good friend to me as well. There had been some light flirting, maybe some mentions of having a threesome but nothing ever came to be for various reasons, mostly because I wasn't that interested and a little worried about their history. Everything was pretty respectful and light hearted. He moved away and recently we went to visit him. I started to see him in a different light and we did end up all together one night. Since then I have realized I had really strong feelings for him I couldn't ignore. I told my partner and at first it did not go well, there were accusations, jealousy, anger. We agreed to not take it any further. But after a few weeks of talking about insecurities, reassurance.. And coming to the realization we all have strong feelings for each other and have for a long time. We have all decided to try to make this work in some capacity. I'm really happy but also very cautious and nervous about things going wrong. Can you all offer me some insight? Advice on navigating this? Maybe some suggested reading. Also curious about any other long term wlw relationships that invited a man in and what was that dynamic like?
